  1. If the Brewers sign another Type a FA, do they not give up another pick, or do they give up there 3rd rounder?
  2. Just like I predicted, Hendrickson has returned to the bigs a different pitcher. While Batman wanted Hendrickson to stay in the bigs and get his confidence completely crushed, Melvin and Yost knew better. A couple of minor league starts to replenish his confidence, and now Hendrickson has returned a new man.
  3. That about says it all about our manager, huh? Ya, what a moron he is for sending a 360 hitter to the plate when his best PH has a strained calf.
  4. One of my problems with all these studies, along with the Non-drafted players is the fact that "injuries" are just counted as "injuries". Whether you say Allison is injured or just freaked out, he should count as a black eye towards high school players. Drafting a college player gives you more time to evaluate a players personality, not just his game. Of course they only been a couple of nuts like this the last few years, Allison and that D-Rays OF with all the tats whose name is escaping me right now.
  5. JP always seems to make good moves, but his pitching certainly has been crappy. His pitching wouldn't be so crappy if he hadn't cut Doug Davis.
  6. Add in Ben Stanzyk toby.
  7. Colbyjack, it is fact that the Brewers have signed fewer players this year than in past years. While you have stated Helena and Arizona are stacked, thats not the case at all. Helena has been signing an unusually high number of non-drafted players, mostly pitchers, to fill out its roster. Those players require no bonus. If there was more $ available, they'd be signing draft picks like Prettman. I don't disagree at all that they've executed a plan very well, I'd expect nothing else from DM, and Jack Z. I'm simply implying the plan was forced by budget restraints. With the team for sale, it makes more sense to cut the draft budgett than the major league payroll.
  8. Moreno's dedication to winning definately did help. Brewer ownership didn't even give Melvin a full draft budget this year, which is why they've signed so few players and going the draft and follow route. The hope is new ownership will be in place by next spring, and scouting staff would have a full budget to sign a dozen or so DFEs.
  9. Why is Ohio such a site of prime importance for the Yankees as you assert? Theres only 2 AAA citie available closer to NY, and the Yanks have never been intersted in Buffaloe or Rochester, as they think it would actually hurt there market size in NY.
  10. And that's stupid, because Hendrickson had two starts before yesterday. Doug has been getting hammered in July, too. How is Hendrickson supposed to develop as an MLB pitcher if he is yanked at the first sign of danger? If that would have happened, BH would have been pulled in the 1st, or again in the 4th.
  11. I have a huge problem with the whole high school versus college debate. The debate is raw high school talent versus polished college players, and BA has some interesting research on it. However, the research comes up short. This is because Juco players are included with the college players. I think we all agree that Jucos are not polished college players. Spending a year at Mannatte JC isn't like spending 3 years at Florida St. More and more of todays stars are coming from the JC ranks, players such as Albert Pujols, Roy Oswalt and Mark Mulder. I think, by 1st impression, most of us thought you get more high end, super star type players from HS, but have a higher success rate of getting average major leaguers from 4 year colleges. If the Jucos were taken out of the equation, I think thats what we'd find.
  12. Um, Batman, is BHs ERA under 4 likes DDs? Nope, its over 9. Thats why BH gets the early hook.
  13. Thers numerous cities called Columbus, and 2 of them have minor league teams. I think the Indians have a Columbus in short season ball, it would make sense that its in Ohio.
  14. This is the bit that gets me. Yes its different from the way you feel, but why on earh is it 'pathetic'?I did an extremely poor job of explaining myself here, I don't at all mean to say your pathetic I simply mean to say I don't grasp the concept of rooting for a minor league team, because i've never been in that situation,
  15. Most people go to drink beer, eat hotdogs and watch the fireworksOK, if this is true, and I agree it is, why in the world the the Brewers waste a cent of there resources on veteran minor leaguers to help the affiliates win? You just said yourself, people don't go to see them win. This is what we've tried to explain to you. you should just feel lucky Huntsville has a team.
  16. Hers my simple prediction for tonights game, if the Crew doesn't score 7, they'll lose. The Astos are struggling mightily, but they will light up pussball Hendrickson. Tim Redding has awesome stuff, but hes not tough minded and has pitched horribly this year.
  17. Speaking from what I see of minor league fans here in Huntsville, most people attending the games couldn't care less if someone is touted as a prospect, they only care about how he and the team performs I guess I'm just the opposite. I too attend minor league games, and I could give a rats behing who wins the game or the frisbee toss. I go to watch prospects. The more awesome talents , the better I like to watch.Give me future major leaguers over some overaged never will be anyday. I always thought it was pathetic getting real attached to a minor league team of any sport, but I guess I'm spoiled by being from a state with 3 real teams.
  18. The question is, who would be looking to take on Indy? The Brewers took Indy after Indy was dumped by the Reds. Location is huge when teams pick there AAA franchise. Colorado wouldn't give up Colorado Springs for nothing, and the same is true for Yankees/Columbus, Arizona/Tuscon, Cubs/Iowa, Reds/Louiville. The only team i see as a threat to steal Indy is thw White Sox. The next question then is the White Sox contract up with Charlotte, as teams generally sign multiyear deals.
  19. Great to see Helms get the guy home from 3rd an inning after KGinter couldn't an inning earlier.
  20. Its always safer to draft college pitchers , because they don't get injured. Like Mark Priorhttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  21. I wouldn't have a problem trading him if he was to net something valuable in return, but that wasn't the case. Have you forgotten Saul Rivera? He's been outstanding at AA, with an ERA under 1. He could help fix the Indy bullpen at anytime. The Brewers did well dealing Childers, considering Childers forced the trade.
  22. We may not be geniuses here, but this one seems pretty bloody obvious to me. You talk like theres some kind of hurry to transform Obes into a reliever. Does the big club have some sort of relief shortage I don't know about?Obermuler doesn't need to be a minor league reliever to become ready to fill that role in the majors. He's ready for that now just like Kinney was.
  23. Beane is great, without a doubt, but Terry Ryan in my mind is THE most underrated GM in all of baseball, possibly the best, and has built his team almost exclusively through player developement The most underrated GM in baseball is DOUG MELVIN. Have you seen what he's doing in Milwaukee?http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/happy.gif He also took over a last place Texas team that won 3 division titles under his watch.
  24. The A's did a terrific job drafting pitchers, as usual. However, they completely wasted a bunch of high draft picks on nothing position players, much like the moneyball draft.
  25. Prettyman has played several positions before this season, he's playing exclusively 3rd this season because they're so outstanding everywhere else. Your both right about his swing. Theres definately no power there. IHe reminds me of Chase Utley.
