  1. Yes, 1, LHP Daniel Gibson. Like Scooter and Howell, he's in BA's top 200.
  2. Hopefully they open the wallet in round 2. Allie, Cole, or Garin Cecchini. Cecchini played with Bryce Harper on Team USA last summer, but it was Cecchini, not Harper, that lead the team in OBA and Slugging %, then he hurt his knee this spring, which is why he fell, along with price. If none are available, give OF/RHP Eibner his wish and let him play the OF. 3 more HRs this past weekend? I think that puts him at 21 for the season, pretty outstanding for a guy that also works as a starting pitcher.
  3. RHPs Allie, Workman, Eibner, AJ Cole 3B Gain Cechini OF Ryan Lamare
  4. Its very possible that Allie might be asking huge money to buy him out of his North Carolina commit.
  5. It helps that there willing to go overslot to sign him
  6. The Giants just took Gary Brown. Way to spend a #1 on a righty swinging Jason Tyner
  7. Hall was an overslot signing, his contract was held up by MLB. That shouldn't be an issue with Covey at #14.
  8. Ya, Tampa does it again, and the Cubs drop the ball again.
  9. To me, he is somewhat similar in style to Gallardo. A drop and drive pitcher with a 4 pitch mix and good command. Completely different than the other guys (raw fireballers) that we have drafted that have yet to break through.
  10. True, but this guy profiles as similar to Gallardo as anyone else we've taken in the past decade. This isn't the raw flamethrower we usually take. This pick seems to be a new direction.
  11. I hope Rick Peterson recommended this pick.
  12. Glad we're on the same page here. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif Cox would allow them to trade for pitching. Thats safer then drafting it.
  13. I'll say Cox too. He put up some impressive numbers for a sophmore.
  14. If any of these mocks are remotely true, there is going to be massive disappointment over the Brewers first round pick this year. Castellanos: Wont have the power to be a third baseman. Harvey: Winds up in the bullpen or injured Wojciehowski: Bullpen guy as well Biddle: No reason in the world that this kid should be drafted in the 1st round. Last year you said Heckathorn was nothing but a reliever too, and that couldn't be more wrong.
  15. If I was making the pick today, I'd have to go with OF Kyle Parker. Since the focus is on pitching, I'd go with Alex Wimmers. Since the new MO is big pitchers, I'd be happy to go with Stetson Allie. In rounds 3-5, look for the Brewers to grab Connor Narron. Melvin has a close relationship with the entire Narron family, and we already have 1 narron in the system. Connor is a solid prospect, a patient hitter with some power.
  16. I like the idea of Cates too. Not just a fireballer, but it sounds like he has a pretty solid change-up. The Brewers don't select enough guys with good change-ups, which is a big part of their crappy pitching. I wish they had an interest in Wimmers for the same reason, but I don't think he fits their mold.
  17. Lots of their middle and late round picks have come from the MP workouts in the past. Very few of their 1st rounders have been at the workout. Some of their biggest blunders have been guys that put on shows at the pre-draft workout, like Josh Murray and Evan Frederickson. I like that they had a number of the under the radar Georgia prospects there. We just can't let the Braves completely rule that state, its the key to their empire. Guys like Goodrum and Alvord would fit nice in rounds 3-5. Lots of middle infield guys, I wonder if thats and emphasis? Colby, do you think Goodrum stays a SS? He seems like an athlete worth rolling the dice on.
  18. Really? Let Melvin, the guy who has proven by all reasonable doubt that he knows nothing about what makes a quality pitcher, to trade high quality players away for pitchers? Great, I can't wait to get the next Dave Bush or Zack Jackson.
  19. I said in the at the end of last season that Dave Bush should be non-tendered, and I was right. He is simply not good enough. A waste of over $4 million. Kam Loe would be just of good of starting option and be $4 million cheaper. Doug Melvin is the king of wasting money.
  20. I agree with you 98% of the time, but theres no way Biddle will get more than slot money at #14. There are other teams that might have interest in him in round 1, but those teams are at the end of round 1, not # 14. I can't think of any time the Brewers drafted a total reach and ended up proving everyone else wrong.
  21. Jesse Biddle would be extremely disappointing especially given the Brewers ugly history with players with a short track record of success. If Biddle is the pick, it tells us that the teams unwillingness to go over slot in round 1 has become a major obstacle.
  22. I don't think he's a similar prospect to Odorizzi. Odorizzi was lean, and was overworked in HS. Allie is already fully matured physically, he's big and strong, and hasn't been overworked at all. Entering his senior year, he was under-worked. His biggest weakness as a pitcher is that he lacks experience, and he dominates too much to ever get experience in tough situations. He needs to be challenged, and will move much quicker than Odorizzi. I don't mean to take anything away from Jake, as I was a proponent of drafting him.
  23. Ya, it will be Allie for the Crew. There's no bat to take, so next up is the hardest thrower available. As Battlekow mentions, he also fits in the organization's new desire for size. He might still be raw in terms of pitchability, but how much of that do you need with his stuff? What I really like is how much he has developed in this season after finally getting consistent innings on the mound. his delivery is actually pretty smooth, the only real change the Brewers would push is to just dial down the effort. You know, throw 96 instead of 99. He is a very inexperienced pitcher, but that doesn't seem to hold him back, his production has been as dominant as it gets.
  24. I'm pretty sure about 2 things, Eric Arnett is a very good prospect, and Kevin Goldstein is a tool.
  25. I wish he could have put it together, but its almost better to have the guy completely flame out and never hurt the big league team then get gifted a spot on the big league club and suck, like Alcides Escobar. I also see no reason to wish him the best, as he never seemed to give us his best effort. What was puzzling was that he was hitting well enough at Huntsville to get regular playing time there, and yet he still quit. As Lance Armstrong said in Dodgeball " I guess if no one ever quit when the going got tough, they wouldn't have anything to regret for the rest of their lives."
