  1. Yea that would not be good. I think if Hart is traded, we would hopefully see an outfield of Braun/Cain/FA outfielder with money saved from any Hart/Fielder deal. An established veteran who can get us through a year or two until someone from the minors is ready to step up. Also, while home runs are great, nothing wrong with manufacturing runs. Yes we lose a lot of home runs if we trade Hart/Fielder but this club relies way too much on the home run and we do have 3 other players on this club who will hit 25 plus home runs. We need more diversity with our offense. High on-base guys, speed guys, good hit and run guys. A good on-base guy with some speed and a manager who actually uses the speed, the bunt, the hit and run, the double steal, basically what he has at his disposal and we can get by offensively as long as we greatly improve our starting pitching. The question is, can we greatly improve our starting pitching by trading Hart/Fielder. I agree that any OF with Gomez in it is pretty limited, because he is a terrible OPS guy. This team is near the top in runs scored, and near the top in scoring at least 4 runs in spite of him because this team has a high team OPS. We should concentrate on keeping the team OPS as high as possible, while improving the defense and pitching.
  2. Right now Moore looks like a guy who will repeat A+ next year as a 5th year pro. His ERA is almost 5 in a major pitchers league as a 4th year pro. Davis put up an ERA under 2 in the same league at the same age. Davis was higher regarded when the season opened, and continues to be better. This un-named source that claims Melvin like Moore better is about as reliable as the source that claimed Hart and Coffey were being dealt for Bumgarner.
  3. Cool to see Cain up, I hope he gets an opportunity to replace Gomez. Gomez has been predictably bad, he is a replacement level player. If Cain plays, the Brewers have just improved their team.
  4. I'd prefer Beckham at 3rd, McGehee to a different team, for a pitcher or OF.
  5. So you want more talent than the trade proposals we're discussing. Well ya. If we can get Minor and Teheran instead of just Minor, I'll take that too. If the offer in Matt Moore and an A ball 3B, I'll pass, and wait for a better fit.
  6. How does your opinion of Colome compare to the opinion you had of Will Inman at this level. You had Inman pencilled in as a MLB impact pitcher years ago, and he's a wash out. Colome will still be in the minors in 2012. 2 1/2 years after pitching in A ball, Jeremy Hellickson has yet to pitch a MLB inning, and he's been completely injury free. To expect every prospect to be injury free is a pipedream.
  7. If we deal those players for A ball prospects, then the next few years are hopeless. That's tearing the team down. Matt Moore isn't helping this team in 2011 or 2012, (and possibly never, as the case with any young pitching prospect). He's on the same track as Cody Scarpetta, and I don't have Scarpetta as a 4 WAR MLB pitcher in 2012. I've never said do nothing, in fact, I've railed against Melvin's approach. If they deal for pitchers that get plugged into the rotation immediately, even if they're young and inexperienced, there's at least hope, and hope sells tickets. Dealing for Fielder and/or Hart also allows the team to improve defensively.
  8. The Brewers are paying more to free agent signings Suppan, Wolf, Riske, and Hawkins than what Sebathia or Texeira make. We could sign impact free agents, we're just not smart enough to.
  9. Whether its a good move to acquire top prospects that are years away isn't worth discussing, because the business side of the team would never let that happen. Tearing the team down for a 3 year re-build would cost Attanosio about $30 million. 500 K fans per year equals $10,000 X 3 years = $30,000. We might as well stick to talking about deals that might actually happen.
  10. Maybe, but the only strong position in Free Agency this next offseason will be 1B, wish could actually hurt the market for Fielder. Dodgers, Giants, Rockies, Braves, Rangers, Angels, Red Sox, Yankees, Rays, and White Sox are the main teams I can think of that would likely be interested. Don't think there's that many good 1B/DH candidates available in free agency. All those teams could use Fielder today, and since there's no free agent 1Bs available right now, his value will never be higher.
  11. Yeah his last three or four starts have been amazing. He's having a better season in the same league as Tampa prospect Matt Moore, who is being discussed plenty in the trade forum. Nice outing by Jeffress too, with 4 more Ks.
  12. Maybe, but the only strong position in Free Agency this next offseason will be 1B, wish could actually hurt the market for Fielder.
  13. Watch for key words here: They could compete without Hart and Fielder if they are traded for top notch starting pitchers and if those pitchers perform and if the lineup can score enough without two proven middle of the order hitters. That's a could, and 3 ifs. If no major deals are made, it doesn't mean changes won't happen or that improvement can't take place. Lorenzo Cain may well take Carlos Gomez job by next spring. Sure Hart may fall off, but does anyone believe Fielder will again be worst in the league in percentage of baserunners driven in? Will the 2011 team have a 2 month period of blown save after blown save? Perhaps, but not likely. Escobar is capable of improvement as is Lucroy. Braun is too. The pitching staff needs more tweaking, the bench a little revamping but the money's there to do both. How about anything that would address our biggest weakness, our pathetic defense?
  14. Weeks is well below average defensively, and Cain's MLE have him as a significant upgrade to Gomez. Gomez is a replacement level player. Cain, even while adjusting to MLB pitching, will significantly outproduce Gomez's 282 OBA.
  15. Moore is recognized as the better prospect by who? Not Baseball America, not John Sickels, not Keith Law. We prefer Davis because he's closer and higher ranked.
  16. When have we talked about acquired a low ceiling MLB ready pitcher. None of the pitching prospects mentioned here are low ceiling guys.
  17. I don't believe one bit that the Brewers like Moore better than Davis. The Brewers wanted to draft Davis, and then he went on to have a very successful minor league career. He's having a fairly solid rookie year, despite a K rate the doesn't jive with his minor league numbers. Plus, there has to be concerns with how well Moore's curve will translate against advanced hitters. I question the source on this.
  18. I agree with Katin/Edmonds. That would at least make us better defensively. Katin is a very strong defender. I spent last night trying to find a minor league RF who's close to MLB ready, but there really isn't squat out there. Only Dominic Brown, and he's earmarked to replace Werth.
  19. I agree mostly, but I don' even think he's average. He has been worth, on average, less than 2 WAR a year. I would rather throw cash into the deal than take back Loney.
  20. I disagree. Who is available that is better than Hart? Hart is highly sought after because he is the best available RF.
  21. Can you name some? I'm just curious who you might be referring to? We've seen numerous Brewers prospects who put up the worst year of their minor league career at AA.
  22. BC beat up on Yankee top prospect/major overslot signee Delin Betances, and are up 7-2 early.
  23. Actually, Garza's season with the Twins wasn't a full season, so this is only his 3rd full season, meaning he needs 3 more full seasons to become a FA. I would like to see the Brewers explore a 3 team deal, with Tampa giving up a pitcher and BJ Upton, with Upton going to the 3rd team for another pitcher, or even a good defense power hitting RF.
  24. The Brewers must really think highly of this young man to draft him as a pitcher but to later agree to also let him hit to get him to sign. It will be interesting to see his signing bonus, as they haven't spent extra on anyone so far. New rules last year allowed 2 signings of $250 K after round 5 without commisioners intervention. I'm guessing RJ got that. Hopefully works out as well as one of last years $250 K signings, Scooter Gennet.
