  1. I would agree, except that the Brewers continue to drug test him. I'm not a Melvin fan, but I have full confidance that if Jeffress fails a drug test, he'll be hit with harsh consequences.
  2. What do you mean? He already cleared waivers, so he can't be claimed anymore. The next chance for a team to grab him is in next years rule 5 draft, but I don't see a team carrying him on the big league roster. If he wants a future he'll have to produce here. I'm not too upset by the whole thing, as I've stated repeatedly that I never considered him much of a prospect. I wish he could have been included in the CC trade instead of Brantley, but Cleveland was loaded at catcher.
  3. I thought the exact same thing when I read the article. Why is Parra being singled out? He was 1 out away from a quality start.
  4. Both statements are grossly untrue. Hardy , despite being out with injury for a good part of the season, is almost twice as many Wins Above Replacement as Gomez and Escobar combined. Both are moot points, as my suggestion was to trade Hardy for a worthwhile player, and to find a platoon partner for Counsel.
  5. Do you always have to talk in absolutes like this? Which part of my statement are you providing evidence for that supports your disagreement?
  6. Possibly, and I blame Doug Melvin for pushing me to the dark side.
  7. He sported a sub 800 OPS at AAA, and for that, he was given a starting spot in the Majors over a superior player, who had 2 years of control remaining, was traded for a throw-away caliber player. If thats not a gift, what is?
  8. Great, I'll use B-Ref then, instead of the Fangraphs version I was using (thanks for pointing that out TooLiveBrew, I didn't know where the difference was coming from), because that only improves my argument. Since 2004, Davis has been 8.5 WAR better than Bush, and 3.1 WAR better since the start of last season. Simply put, Doug Davis is better than Dave Bush, by wide margin, largley because Dave Bush is a bad pitcher.
  9. I don't understand why its so horrible to give him a September call-up? The minor league season is over the 1st week of September, so either we stop his development there, or call him up. His 4 seam fastball is good enough to compete in the majors now. The only thing holding him back (on the mound) in the past was the Brewers insistance that he develop a 2 seamer.
  10. I remember taking alot of critism last year for saying Escobar has no business being gifted a spot in the majors this year. We'd have a better MLB team if Melvin would have listened to me and just signed a platoon partner for Counsel. At least then we wouldn't have wasted a year of service time on of Escobar. This is just another misstep by Melvin. He's made the same mistake with Escobar he made with Hardy, he just never learns.
  11. Hopefully this is Melvin admitting he completely whiffed in his trade for Carlos Gomez, and Gomez is being sent down, or released. As usual, if it doesn't come from the minor league system, it isn't helping the big club.
  12. What prospect has Melvin traded that we really regret? Melvin is way too far into his tenure to be graded on his personel moves. He has been here long enough that he can now be graded on his teams record, which is terrible, which means he's done a terrible job.
  13. You could get more by trading Corey Hart. Hart is much more expensive and is only under control for a year. Or you could move McGehee to first after trading Fielder. Why can't we deal both? One has nothing to do with the other. McGehee shouldn't be moved to 1st either. He's not good enough. Braun could be an option for 1st, as he might defend that position better than he butchers LF. We could sign a free agent position player. The history of success doing that is much better than doing what Melvin does when he constantly signs FA pitchers, which has historically been terrible for everyone.
  14. Can we complain about the fact that every player on the roster, under Macha's guidance, is playing well below expectations defensively? Macha has no leadership skills, and it shows in this teams effort level.
  15. Davis has been better than Bush every year, except his small sample to start this season. Bush is on track to have his 3rd straight season of being less than 1 win above replacement level. This is an easy decision. I still can't believe Melvin didn't non-tender Bush in the offseason.
  16. I agree that this isn't about selling, its about managing the roster. The Brewers have an over-abundance of decent relief pitchers, while they trot out a replacement level CF.Teams often over-pay for relief help this time of year, and the Brewers need to take advantage of that.
  17. Very cool to see Cain so close to filling a giant hole at the big league level. It's become very obvious that we need the minor league system to fill every spot on the big league roster, as Melvin's track record in free agency is a disaster. Stay hot and force the issue Lorenzo!
  18. This surprises me, I thought he'd go straight to Huntesville.
  19. I always thought Chad wasn't choosing his best sport, but I didn't want his choice to change for this reason. What was always odd about Chad was that even though football always came 1st for him, he never played the game like he loved it. He is/was a 225 pound safety that played like he weighed 185. He just seemed to have a better mentality for baseball. When he was starting in the OF he was putting up the same numbers as eventual first round pick Jared Mitchel, and Jones still hadn't unlocked his full power potential. As Colby already noted, he can also pitch, he became dominant as a reliever almost immediately when moved onto the mound. Best of luck to him, I'm sure is getting some amazing medical care.
  20. Melvin also stated that Lawrie was playing well defensively, though Doug does have very low expectations for defense.
  21. Tampa has Carlos Pena at 1B, he's been awful this year, a trend that started last year. Texas has been awful at 1B, and so has Seattle. If someone gets Fielder, it could be a monster upgrade, if he starts hitting like he's capable. He could have a 2nd half for someone else like CC did for us after a so-so 1st 2 months.
  22. There's nothing depressing about having farm teams with poor records. The Pirates farm teams have had great records for years. I'll take a bad team with Brett Lawrie on it over a team full of future MLB backups anyday.
  23. I agree. Why give up Hart and Rogers to get Withrow when Rogers is clearly outpitching Withrow this year in the same league? If we need to add a sweetener to Hart, add in Dave Bush, as Seattle doesn't want prospects.
  24. Brett Lawrie now has an OPS of 839. Fielders OPS in this League at the same age was 837.
