  1. Its below average, and bad for a team with playoff asperations.
  2. Suppan is well below replacement level for 2 years running. He will only continue to regress. I think the team should consider cutting ties with him this offseason. He's really not worth a 40 man roster spot. It would be easier to attract replacements if he wasn't here assuming a rotation spot.
  3. Would you care to maybe tell us which parts you disagree with? .
  4. Only if they see a realistic oppurtunity to get a good pitcher. I think they be watching the situation in Atlanta very closely.

  7. The Brewers have way more money than people are figuring, if Hardy is dealt, which seems likely. If the Brewers decline options on Looper and Weathers, and non-tender Bush, they have enough money to keep Cameron, Hoffman, and add a $12 million pitcher. We have alot of flexibility.

  10. I would think Mulder would sign for near minimum, as long as heavey incentives were attached. I would have no problem paying him if he earned innings. He'd be a perfect option as depth.
  11. The most logical thing would have been to just let him play when he was here. He was very good, his numbers are just skewed by all the PH and DH ABs he got. Young players rarely adjust well to DHing, and nobody ever hits well as a PH. As a 3B, Gamel has a 836 OPS this year. I'll take that any day. Its quite impressive given his erratic playing time.
  12. Peterson has worked under both Macha and Randolph, right? Pitchers he's worked with who were at their best under him would include Tim Hudson, barry Zito, Mark Mulder, Dan Haren, Oliver Perez, John Maine, and a few more I'm forgetting.
  13. It was brought in in the trade rumors section, but it belongss here. Petereson is awesome at his job. I consider him the 2nd best in the business behind Dave Duncan. If we get him, i hope we add some power arms for him to work with. I'm guessing if we get Peterson, Mark Mulder will sign here. A Jeff Suppan/Oliver Perez deal could also be considered.
  14. The Twins are falling apart without Tery Ryan. Their farm system is getting weak in a hurry, and their big league club is getting expensive. The Phillies are ultra-imprssive.
  15. 1. Yovani Gallardo 2. Ryan Braun 3. Prince Fielder 4. Dave Riske 5. Todd Coffey 6. Rickie Weeks 7. Mitch Stetter 8. Mike Rivera 9. Jeff Suppan 10. Carlos Villanueva 11. Craig Counsel 12. Jody Gerut 13. Cory Hart 14. Chris Narveson 15. Manny Parra 16. Alcides Escobar 17. Trevor Hoffman 18. Chris Smith 19. Mat Gamel 20. Claudio Vargas 21. Dallas Braden 22. Jeremy Guthrie 23. Adam Heether 24. Henry Blanco 25. Tim Hudson Melvin will be back. Macha will be back http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif
  16. My plan is to ditch Bush and Looper, pick up Tim Hudson, and keep Cameron. The money is there if we punt the low upside pitchers. Looper and Bush are part of the problem, not part of the solution.
  17. Yet his FIP is still over 5 because he gives up a ton of homers, just like last year.
  18. What was Bush's excuse last year, when he was just 1 WAR, despite an ERA the was better than his periferils? What was his excuse before getting hurt this year, when he WAR still was poor. His best month before getting hit was still average at best, and the other months were worse. He's not valuable. He has no upside.
  19. Thats difficult to do, as the Gerut/Cameron can't be answered without knowing how much money is available to pay Cameron. Some are suggesting losing a consistent 4 WAR player in Cameron so we can keep a .4-2 WAR player in Bush, which seems misguided to me. Pay the players who are the problem and get rid of our 3rd most productive player? That would make us worse.
  20. Molina was once a great defender, but that was when he was still in his 20s, before he got fat. He's 35 now, and doesn't throw well at all anymore. He gave up 85 steals this year, throwing out just 23%. His OPS is just 705. Thats about the same as Henry Blanco has done the last few years, and Blanco is far superior defensively. Theres still numerous teams that don't understand stats that will overpay Molina based on counting stats, but I don't see Melvin as that sucker. Henry Blanco is a superior player for a fraction of the cost. Mike Rivera would likely be similar to Molina if he got regular ABs.
  21. Pretty sure if we'd have had 2 starting pitchers worth 9 wins, they wouldn't have been depth, they'd have been starters. When 4/5 of your rotation accounts for less than 1 WAR combined, your depth might as well be a monkey in sunglasses. Mike Burns could have been Cy Young, but it would have been too late for the damage already caused.
  22. How is non-tendering a poor pitcher in his last year of control a terrible move when the alternative is giving him a raise? You think we can't find a similar pitcher in FA for the same price? The upside is we might find someone good. The screwed up arbitration process will give Bush a raise from $4 million, which he wasn't worth this year. Our problem isn't rotation depth, its rotation quality. Our 2nd best starting pitcher in Wins Above Replacement is Parra at .7, we need quality, not depth.
  23. Its becoming very clear that Mike Cameron, not Gerut, needs to be our CF next year. I like Gerut, but he fits better for us as a reserve or in RF. Its also becoming clear that if the team wants to save money, they can just non-tender Bush. Because of arbitration, Bush will get a raise from his $4 million salary. You don't pay a scrub like him if its risks losing a 4 WAR player like Cameron. The emergence of Narveson makes it easier to cut the fat with guys like Bush.
  24. Piccione88, I'm completely on board with your plan, its very realistic. My only addition would depend on the budget. I'd think with our attendance our payroll would slide up into the mid 80s. If that is possible, then I'd non-tender Dave Bush and add Tim Hudson. Hudson would be a sifnificant upgrade over Bush, and obviously would also cost about double. I'd also non-tender McClung to save money.
  25. He dominated the FSL as a 21 year old, with a 2.18 ERA and more K's than innings pitched. He gave up just 16 hits in 33 innings. Thats dominant. On the field, he's a top prospect. His issues are off the field.
