  1. What a great start Hernan Iribarren is off to, now pushing his OPS over 1.000. It was puzzling that he didn't hit better last year, but thats behind us. He could hit himself to Milwaukee and become a valuable, versitile reserve, giving us depth at 2B, all 3 OF spots, and maybe even a lefty alternitive to Hall at 3B, while also getting regular PH appearences.
  2. Hardy entered the season with a higher career OPS batting 5th than 2nd. The #2 spot should be for a high OBA guy with speed. Hardy's highest OBA of his pro career is last year's .343 OBA. Havig speed on the bases in front of the guys who hit the most singles is logical, and Braun and Fielder hit more singles than Cameron and Hall. If we're going to play the hot lineup game, then Braun, Fielder, and Hardy should be batting 5-7, but I don't like that game.
  3. Ya, that drove me nuts too. That was a common Yost strategy, and it consistently backfired on him too. Suppan had just given up a flyball thats a homer in most parks to end the 6th. I say get Suppan out of the game with his confidence is intact, as he has clearly been struggling as much mentally as he was physically. I'm also somewhat annoyed that RJ Swindle hasn't been in a game yet. I understand that Macha would maybe like to bring him in for the 1st time in a game that isn't a 1 run game, but if he goes a few more games without pitching, he'll be rusty. I guess I'll be fine with it as long as he pitches next game. The thing I do like about Macha as that he's shown in his past that his teams recover after slow starts, and have consistently finished strong. I'll predict that is on tap for this season too.
  4. The sight looks great Patrick. I hope it turns out a big success for you, as you truely deserve it. When I see the success of guys you've bragged up it im the past, like Jordan Zimmerman, or how you were on the Matt Weiters bandwagon since HS, it shows your true talent. A few questions: I see you have Jared Mitchell going to the Brewers in your mock draft. I think thats a perfect prediction. Mitchel has really improved at the plate this year, and he has the incredible tools the Brewers hunt for. He has the lefty bat that the ideal Brewers pick would have. Its amazing he done so well this year considering he's never been through fall practice, and actually attended spring football during baseball season his 1st 2 years. The question is, has has stock risen so much that he'd be picked much higher than 26, and is their any issues in signing him? I see you have Jake Locker #41 in your rankings. Is he really considering baseball? It would be cool if he did, since the Brewers have a connection to him. I love the player reports in your Dandy Dozen. Lots of sights have ranking, but finding out anything more about players is hard to find. It says you will do new Dandy Dozens periodically, will the previous player reports still be available after the new Dandy Dozens come out?
  5. Hall bulked up when Melvin and Yost made the moronic decision to move Hall to the OF. He played 20 pounds heavier the last 2 years. He slimmed down now, and is running better. Hall might have slimmed down when he was moved back to 3B last year, but the Brewers waited until the offseason was almost over before alerting him of the move. Totally false. This guy has been jerked around by this organization so many times its rediculous. He got moved to CF even though he never played there and would be a good 2B, and kept Weeks, a terrible 2B and who had experience in the OF, at the position. They bounced him back in forth between 3B and SS. They gave Hardy the SS position in 2005, even though it was abundantly clear in spring training that Hall was a breakout player and Hardy was no where near ready. Hall isn't selfish, but he would have good reason to start being that way.
  6. I agree, but being on a 50 pitch limit is just like being in the bullpen. We can figure out a future role for him when they think he's ready for his pitch count to jump up to 70, but they said that would be awhile yet.
  7. Good news! BA with a Mark Rogers article, including news that his fastball is back! I was concerned since his K rate is down, but apparently he's learned how to get guys out without striking them out. He's saying all the right things in every interview. He is really turning his layoff into a positive. Who new all Rogers needed to do to start getting results on the mound was to take 2 1/2 years off?

  10. Wes Littleton has completely lost himself. His velocity is down, his command is bad. I doubt he'll be with Nashville long. Mark Rogers continues to be a bright spot. Where has that Rogers friend that posted here once in a while been hiding? I'd sure like an insider report on his velocity, and what he's throwing now.
  11. While I agree he's too high on the list, who are these other HS hitters that had better than an 805 OPS in Helena? Sure, Fielder did, but he's kind of special. Hardy has a 662 OPS in Ogden (the brewers pioneer league entry back then). Hart has a 698 OPS his 1st year there, then repeated the league. Salome only played in Arizona his 1st year, and only had a 592 OPS. Cutters 367 OBA was pretty impressive, and he was playing through injuries most of the summer. Also, Gindl needs to hit much better than Dykstra, he's a corner OF, not a CF.
  12. Totally true. Riske just wasn't ready yet. Swindle can be really usefull, and Julio becomes the mop up guy. Julio is similar to Mota, he's wild, but capable of a hot stretch here or there. If he gets hot, Macha will ride him for awhile. I can't wait to see Swindle in action. We see a few sidearmers, like Chad Bradford, that can get righties and lefties out, I wonder why we don't see that more from lefties?
  13. In some circumstances, maybe, but not on a team like this where pitching is the weakness. On this team, you want to convert as many outs as possible to keep your best pitchers pitch counts down to keep them in the game. The Brewers seem to have become more aware of the importantance good defense after the 2007 season, I sure hope they don't choose to take a step back now. That is a real can of worms. If I became willing to play gamel at 3B, the only solution to me is to replace MaGehee with Gamel and Duffy with a RH OF. Cole Gillespie could be an option once his arm is healthy. Jason Bourgeois is off to a hot start at AAA, while he probably isn't much offensively, his minor league numbers are as good as Duffy or MaGehee's.
  14. The MLB average 1B OPS last year was 816. Gamel could do that in his sleep. Only 4 1Bs reached the 900 mark, and an 873 OPS was good for 10th. Gamel would fit right in that range.
  15. Halladay is signed through 2010, so he's not a true rental. Aquiring him would give the Brewers an oppurtunity to be a true WS contender.
  16. Gamel with another HR tonight, this one off top prospect Derreck Holland, a fireballing lefty. Very impressive. He also commits error #3, this one was fielding.
  17. Doug Melvin has stated in the past that as long as Don Money thinks gamel can play 3B, he'll stay there, and they check with Money regularly to see if he has changed his mind. Si the the idea is there, just not the intention.
  18. BA described Green defensively as having adequate range and arm, and a better chance of sticking at 3B than Gamel. Thats not a ringing endorsement. I wouldn't compare him to Cirillo at all, as Cirillo had terrific range and arm, and was a very good averall athlete. The player I compare him to is Mike Fontonot, and he is pretty good, and a player I'd love on my team. That description of Gamel works, and just like Braun, it works better in LF.
  19. I agree he was horrible last night, but a BP pitcher gives up more than 2 hits. The Cubs hitters were taking ugly I think GormanHarvey has it right, his problems are psychological. He needs to get over it, and fast.
  20. While I agree power is important at 3B, isn't it even more important in a corner OF position? Green showed more power at a younger age in the FSL than Gillespie, whom you consider a OF alternative. I'm not sure if Cain fits in this conversation, as he is earmarked for CF, not a corner OF position.
  21. Thats a pretty major slam on Taylor Green. I assume you just forgot him because he's out right now, but will be back soon according to Mr. Kusnick. Green is everybit as good of a prospect as Gillespie. Bill Hall is signed through next year, where as there will be an opening in the OF next year. So you go into next season with him in the minors learning to play the OF, or he gets on the job training as a rookie in the Majors?
  22. Bingo, I just didn't want the thread bogged down with trade scenarios. Creating a surplus of great talent at a position can be very beneficial. I just wanted to stick to the original question: Is it worth waiting for his defense to become tollerable at 3B?
  23. Attanosio really needs to find a way to buy himself out of the horrible TV deal he inherited from the Seligs, and get The Brewers Network started. Waiting for this deal to expire is a lost oppurtunity, and I'm sure he knows that.
  24. I agree with this, but in all likelihood, his defense still won't be ready by then. His bat was MLB ready mid-season last year. If he doesn't start playing the OF now, he won't be ready to play that anytime soon either. He's already been held back by his defense. Having him available at another position would give the Brewers some serious options.
  25. Mat Gamel is off to an unreal start at the plate. He also continues to commit errors. At what point do the Brewers move him to a position that would allow him to be called up? With Bill Hall back to playing the way he's capable, it doesn't seem worthwhile to wait for Gamel to be able to play 3B at a tollerable level, and shouldn't we strive for good defense, not just tollerable?
