  1. When I read this, the first person I thought of was Juan Acevedo. If I remember right, this guy had all kinds of trouble with intentional walks. I think he even had a wild pitch on at least one occasion.
  2. I'm not glad he lost. I can't say it really affects me a whole lot, but I would have liked to see a Triple Crown winner. There hasn't been one in my lifetime and I think it'd be really something to see.
  3. I used to be more of a supporter of Yost, but not so much anymore. His bullpen management has always bothered me, but last night's game and some of his comments of late clinched the deal for me. About a month ago, I figured he would be gone by now, but the homestand saved him. I'm now guessing that Ned won't make it past June 26. I don't think that the rest of this roadtrip looks good, and I don't think the next homestand will go so smoothly either. After three games in Atlanta, I think Ned gets the boot. ----- Continued from: viewtopic.php?p=372863#p372863 Original Lead: viewtopic.php?t=12043
  4. I was slightly torn on this, but I have a feeling I'd rather see McClung stay as opposed to seeing Weaver in the rotation. You know what you're getting with Weaver, and I think that Seth is a bit of an enigma. Who knows what he's going to be? Maybe he will find consistent control. He hasn't exactly killed the team lately, so I say why not? Weaver has had a couple of nice starts recently, but his overall body of work in the minors has been kinda craptastic. Also, I would hate to see Dillard go as well. That being said, I think I'm going to side with JJHardy7 and say that I too think that Weaver will end up being in Milwaukee. Not my preference, but I don't make the decisions.
  5. I turned on the game at the start of the bottom of the eighth, so I hadn't seen Villanueva pitch and I didn't know how much he had thrown or how well he had done. At that point, I didn't really see the harm in bringing in Mota since I hadn't seen the rest of the game. I was really frustrated that no one else was up in the bullpen until there was already one run in and runners on second and third with nobody out. Why not have someone else up just in case? Mota didn't look sharp for the first two batters. It doesn't take Shouse long to warm up, why not have him up to face Helton? You could tell Mota wasn't on, so why keep him in? I don't necessarily think the error was bringing in Mota, it was not removing him sooner.
  6. For the first time, I'm not going home for the summer because I have an internship. Anyway, the place I'm living in has no air conditioning and it is constantly roasting in here. I'm sweating by just sitting here and typing...ridiculous...
  7. Adorable Toby. Congratulations!
  8. I changed mine to the greatest Brewer of all time...Bobby Hughes!
  9. Also, one of the eeriest sounds is the complete silence before a huge storm. It's insanely dark and all the birds just go silent. Creepy.
  10. It's been humid in Platteville all day, and there was no rain in sight. Now a very very severe storm is lurking 15 miles away. Man I love summer...
  11. I haven't weighed in on this at all yet. I've tried to keep up with this thread, but it has kind of taken on a life of its own. I'm not going to respond to anything in particular, instead I'm going to voice my own opinion because, quite frankly, I fell behind. I have no problem with Haudricourt writing about the report in his blog. The only thing I didn't really understand was why he wrote about it before confirming the report. As a student majoring in journalism, I understand the importance of being timely and wanting to break information. I work at a weekly paper, if something pops up here, I want to be on top of it because if you miss it you're already a week and a half behind. I mean, BadgerBlogger already had this thrown out and it was spreading before TH made his post. I think he had to report on it at some point. The thing I never understood was, if he had sources to confirm the validity of the report, why he didn't just wait those couple of hours and report the fact that the report was false? The other thing that bothers me is the use of anonymous sources. I completely understand the reasoning behind the use of them. Sometimes it's necessary to get the information that is needed and you don't want to compromise the source's position or security. It just seems that a lot of the articles I read lately, whether they be sports related or not, use anonymous sources. How can people use them constantly and have any kind of credibility? When do they get to the point in their careers that they can? Writing for my college paper, I used anonymous information once, confirmed by three different people who wanted to be anonymous, and my credibility was questioned along with that of the paper. It's like you have to make the choice between getting information and having credibility and you can't have one without the other. Which comes first and why? I would love to see more people being held accountable for the things they say and the things they report. As I gain more experience, my goal is to not use anonymous sources, but at this point, it doesn't appear to be too realistic and that bothers me.
  12. I would love to see Hart locked up to a long-term deal. I'd try for somewhere in the neighborhood for 5-year 30 million with incentives and a team option...or is that not realistic for someone like Corey? I just have a feeling he's going to be a consistent 25-30 homer 100 RBI guy. I don't think he'll be a star but very consistent and could be an all-star. Otherwise, I agree with trying to lock up Weeks while he could be locked up at a lowered rate, of course that could be the reason he'd be harder to sign. I also might be in the minority, but I'd try and lock Hardy up, especially if Weeks can't be signed. I'd also wait on Gallardo until he's healthy. I'm pretty much resigned to the fact that Prince will get traded at some point.
  13. I really like the idea of Maddux because I doubt that San Diego is going to ask that much. Really, even though it is Maddux, who is going to give up the farm for a 40-year old? How much would that take? I'm assuming Gwynn would be included in any deal we made with the Padres. How many more players would be involved? A pitcher as well?
  14. He is a 6-8 SF w/ crazy athletic ability. Seems like a good shot blocker, and great all around player. For some reason when I read this, the only thing I could think of was Marcus Haislip.
  15. I might be able to help. I've done a decent amount of stuff with photography and Photoshop. There are probably people better at it than me, but I could give it a shot if you have nothing else.
  16. The great Bobby Hughes. He was a catcher, and all catchers make great managers, right? I'd probably go for someone like Davey Johnson. Bobby Valentine seems to have no real interest in coming back from Japan. Otherwise, I'd give Kremblas a look. A separate question: He's been the one constant with the team for the last couple of decades, so do you see any way Billy Castro is ever fired? I like Billy but, he seems to be bulletproof.
  17. The rest of the team gets an F The rest of the team, other than Braun, shouldn't even get that high of a mark. The team played awful all-around, I give them a grade of Q-minus.
  18. Wait... I missed most of this last season. Kelso isn't chief of medicine anymore?
  19. Since they were looking at Rios, it doesn't seem that the Giants want prospects for Lincecum anyway. Maybe Sabean thinks they have a shot at the playoffs. I know it's been mentioned elsewhere before, but offers would probably have to start with Hart. Personally, I would rather have a haul of prospects and build for the future if I were the Giants. Of course, I wouldn't even think of trading Lincecum either.
  20. For the most part, I don't really remember my dreams, but they usually give me this odd feeling of deja vu. Every once in a while, I'll have something unimportant happen to me like getting a can of soup or getting hit in football or a couple of words in a conversation, and when it happens I'll realize that it happened in a dream that I had. It's really weird and it's never anything significant, but if I actually remember a really horrible dream, it usually makes me worry a little. Anyone else have this happen to them?
  21. i was there around 97/98, did a year of copy editing. my year there lasted a good long while as resume filler until i had enough jobs. when i was there it was Art (last name?) overseeing the whole thing. some pretty awesome professors in the History/English departments, lot of good stories with them i'm not at liberty to tell. I started as a copy editor while taking Basic Newswriting and was an assistant editor the next semester. Art Ranney is still the adviser. He's also my academic adviser and a helluva guy. I haven't had anyone from the English department, but I'm also finishing up my minor in history and there are some interesting people in there. Ever have class with Del Carey? Oh, and Southpaw, I never played baseball here. I've been to a couple games, but this year's team...slightly lacking.
  22. The Exponent! i put in a year there, too. Really? How long ago was that? I'm assuming we didn't overlap because I've only been here for two years. What did you do?
  23. <------Full-time student, News Editor/Reporter UW-Platteville student newspaper, just arranged an internship at the Platteville Journal and Grant County Herald Independent
  24. I'm with you on this, I love oranges. On the bright side, the citric acid should help combat kidney stones!
