  1. Statistics aside, I'd be curious to know more about his mental makeup. Is he a committed professional? Does the team consider him a hard-worker? Is he able to shake off failure easily, or does it dog him for awhile? Does he require special attention by management or teammates?
  2. Great post, GregMag. That is a good perspective to remember. I recall questioning Tony Gwynn's promotions two years in a row.....seems like they knew what they were doing.
  3. I don't think we should trade valuable starting pitching depth just to get them out of the way. These guys are too valuable....a young starter with a good arm and low salary should have better value than a LOOGY.
  4. Palmisano to AAA and Angel to AA?
  5. Put me down for Brewer, I think his skill set is underrated. Though I admit, I'm only 75% positive I know what his skill set is. I laughed out lound at this..... No way I'd give up the 6 pick for Harris either....
  6. I think Parra is far better than Marte....just as Yo is better than Bush/Vargas and Braun is better than Counselnino. I think that is our group of deadline improvements.....although I do think we'll make a nominal move to augment the bullpen...but it won't be meaningful. Just my opinion.
  7. Hey...just kidding! I take back 95% of my comments that Parra would not be the centerpiece in a trade because of his injury history, AND I now put him in the category of guys I do not want to trade.
  8. The next Power 50 should have some interesting changes. Parra up, Inman down? Jeffress up? Braun off? La Porta?
  9. I was going to ask the same question. I'd rather draft someone like Horford.....we need defense, toughness and rebounding....but he'll be gone. If Conley slips to us...he's an upgrade over Williams. Williams is a number two player to me. He doesn't make the others on the court better...I thought TJ Ford was much better at that than Williams. I like Mo...just at the two or as the sixth man. I'd be okay with Conley, but I was hoping to improve the four position. If we draft Conley, who might we be able to pursue in FA?
  10. The original Blackfield album might be the best album ever....came out a few years back. Their second album released earlier this year wasn't quite as good. The latest Mellowdrone album also rocks...my album of the year so far.
  11. Gallardo appears to be the real deal.
  12. I don't disagree with your assertion on Parra...if that situation would occur. I think with his injury history that he will not be the centerpiece that nets Buerhle....they'd be looking for Gallardo or someone like that as the centerpiece and Parra would be an intriguing throw-in, which I doubt Milwaukee would consider. That said....I agree that if someone gave us Buerhle or the like for Parra...they'd do it. I just don't think that anyone would make Parra the centerpiece of a deal with his history.
  13. I agree with the comment on Parra. Lefties are batting .095 against him...at the very least he can be a devastating LOOGY...but probably more. Plus, we'd have him for years at bargain prices. He has far more value to the franchise than anything he'd net in return. I think Gwynn's trade value is at an all-time high. He's steadily progressed/improved offensively. He had a nice stint in the major's. I like him...but wonder if that offense is real, or if he's more like his first couple or few years in the minors, not the last 18 months. In any event, I think the team is committed to Hall in center for now and Tony lacks the punch of a corner outfielder. I think he could be moved, especially considering they have so many other CF prospects a couple of years behind Tony. Note: Before I get pounced on as a "Gwynn-hater," I like him and would be intrigued to see if he develops. I just don't see him getting the AB's in Milwaukee for us to make that determination and think that someone will value him higher in a trade.
  14. He seems to become a different pitcher when runners get on... That most likely can be chalked up to a lot of luck. It's also unlikely that he can sustain that ability. I heard an interview with Yost a few weeks ago when the announcer asked about moving Bush to the pen and bringing up Gallardo or moving Villy to the rotation. His answer was very interesting and insightful. He said that moving Bush to the pen would only be considered as a final option because it plays to Bush's weakness, which is pitching from the stretch. Yost mentioned that Bush struggles to throw strikes from the stretch. This explains why he gives up the big innings. When he gets runners on base, his control is not as good and he is susceptible to the big inning. The way Yost was talking about it, they have no doubt quantified statistically the difference in his control from the stretch, which is why he would only move him to the pen if it was a last resort. I found it quite interesting....everything seemed to make sense then. I guess my point is....there is an explanation....or partial explanation beyond luck.
  15. Is this situation with Braddock related to what shut him down last month?
  16. My defining image of drag-racing is when they lose control of the car during a race. I can't image what the organizers were thinking...and just as bad, I can't image how the spectators could have not detected that "this was a bad idea." How horrifying.
  17. Might Corey Hart be emerging as the player we expected/hoped for?
  18. Wow, Kat....is that true? A 24 mph differential is pretty devastating. I hope he improves his control. His surprise jump to A ball has him looking pretty good so far.
  19. If Yo is 85% of the pitcher I believe Verlander will be....I'd be jazzed. Verlander has dazzling, overpowering stuff, and a competitive, bulldog mentality. If Yo ends up in JV's league I'd be thrilled.
  20. My interest in the NBA is nearly extinguished.
  21. Despite being no-hit Tuesday, the Brewers have the 4th best OPS in the National League in June. Wow....that is interesting. I never would have guessed with their "offensive woes."
  22. Two on the road against the Tigers after being no-hit to open the series.....this could be the turning point.
