  1. There is money to work with this year but well north of $100 million with raises the next few years.
  2. I'd rather see a 2 fisted slopper race.
  3. Gallardo was the only pitcher who was around for the last 2 Brewer playoffs. Playoffs here we come!
  4. I would think that would be a national network like FS1 that would stay with Fox. Since most MLB teams would now have to negotiate with Disney/ESPN for broadcast rights and if they start getting squeezed, I wonder if this could be the push to have MLB negotiate broadcast deals? Local teams would give up control, but MLB as a whole would have more clout if they could negotiate for multiple teams at once.
  5. Now that the deal is official, here is an interesting take on what it means for sports and it's not good for local teams. https://deadspin.com/what-disneys-acquisition-of-21st-century-fox-means-for-1821311525 Not mentions is that there could also be a showdown between Disney and MLB as Disney wants to start a sports streaming service which could directly compete with MLB.TV.
  6. Yeah, this deal is really about Disney getting the Fox movie and TV properties for their new streaming service that they want to launch next year to compete with Netflix (No more Disney, Pixar, Star Wars or Marvel on Netflix). Sports are a very small part of this.
  7. Just that Disney tends to play hardball in their negotiations and deals and Milwaukee doesn't really have a lot of leverage.
  8. So the rumored Fox Disney merger appears close to happening, but this is the first time I've seen details on how it might affect sports. So it sounds like Fox Sports Wisconsin could become ESPN Wisconsin, though it's not real clear. But is does seem that there will be a shake up of the sports networks when the dust settles. My gut instinct is that this will not be good for the Brewers (and Bucks) when their broadcast deals come up. https://www.cnbc.com/2017/12/05/disney-and-fox-are-closing-in-on-deal-could-be-announced-next-week--sources.html
  9. So he's actually taking a pay cut? He was at $2.1 million last year.
  10. http://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/mlb/brewers/2017/11/09/brewers-commit-much-63-million-keep-spring-training-maryvale-baseball-park/846711001/
  11. So Anderson is making a minimum of $12.75 million over the next 4 years. Meanwhile, Garza is making $8 million in deferred money over those same 4 years.
  12. Some would say baseball failed Montreal. They were on their way to the postseason and possibly their first World Series when the strike wiped out the World Series. They were also on pace to draw almost 2 million fans that year. Fan support dried up after the strike. As for the realignment, I'm not a fan of being in a division with Colorado and the Texas teams, but not Cleveland or Detroit, from both a travel and tradition standpoint.
  13. We went during the Miami "road" series. At least the prices were discounted. That's really the only good thing I can say. But my son can't have dairy and they couldn't make him a hamburger, they only had cheeseburgers. Really? Is it typical that they don't do special orders or was it just for this series? By the way, the worst ballpark brat I ever had was at Jacobs Field in Cleveland. It was terrible.
  14. On a team full of free swinging, strikeout machines, Sogard is the exact opposite. He had the lowest strikeout rate and 2nd highest BB rate on the team. Yes, he probably wouldn't even reach Tony Gwynn Jr slugging, but if he can get on base and not strike out, I think he has value for the team. He probably won't repeat the OBP from this year, but I think he's worth bringing back as a bench bat.
  15. I was responding to the notion that Susac gets dropped from the 40 man if Nottingham gets added. I don't see any way Nottingham is the first one called if a catcher gets hurt, that would likely be Susac. Whoever doesn't get the backup catcher spot between Vogt and Bandy ends up having to go through waivers to go to the minors.
  16. Let me see if I have this straight. Nothing changes next year for any affiliates. AAA - Sky Sox move to San Antonio in 2019. Brewers probably won't end up there. AA - Seem to have a good relationship with Biloxi. Hope to stay there long term. A+ - Brewers now own Mudcats, so that's locked in. A - They would seem to be in Appleton for as long as they want R+ - Moving to Colorado Springs in 2019. Do they rethink their rookie level teams at that point or stay with Colorado Springs? R - Depends on where their spring training facility ends up.
  17. that all changes if they add jacob nottingham to the 40-man roster before the rule 5 draft deadline. Nottingham didn't hit any better than Susac and was a level lower. And I believe he still needs work on his defense. I don't see him as the third catching option next year.
  18. Last year is probably the best you can hope for. Relatively healthy, plays 135 games, 30 HR, .300 AVG, .900 OPS.
  19. Bubba gives a full account of his experience. He's still in a Vegas hotel. http://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/mlb/brewers/2017/10/02/brewers-prospect-bubba-derby-las-vegas-concert-where-mass-shooting-occurred/724697001/
  20. So Braun is going to be here and he's going to spend time on the DL. But what about the time he plays when he's hurt? It sounds like the wrist was a problem for the whole second half. Do you take a 785 OPS playing hurt, or do you push him to spend more time on the DL in hopes that he comes back healthier and and maybe gives you 850-875 over a shorter period?
  21. Susac is the only catcher with an option left, so he has that going for him.
  22. He is unharmed and heading home. I imagine this is something that will take some time to deal with. http://www.jsonline.com/story/sports/mlb/brewers/2017/10/02/brewers-prospect-bubba-derby-las-vegas-concert-where-mass-shooting-occurred/724697001/
  23. I'm actually optimistic about the bullpen for next year, even if Hader goes to the rotation. Knebel was lights out in save situations. I think Swarzak will be back. Jefress is back and pitching pretty well. And Hughes was outstanding over the final month (no earned runs).
  24. The calf injury was known, but I don't think the wrist injury was revealed until now.
  25. The season ends and then we find out again that Braun was playing hurt. Hadn't heard about the wrist until now. http://m.brewers.mlb.com/news/article/257039266/brewers-ryan-braun-looks-back-on-2017-season/
