  1. Yes, although Hall is still an above-replacement level player, which I don't believe Jason Bourgeois is likely to be. And Melvin still didn't make the most obvious move of all and cut Kendall. Disappointing, but let's hope he gets that done today too.
  2. Also, Jason Bourgeois is terrible. Why not Heether instead?
  3. What the heck is going on? Melvin is looking extremely desperate, I bet he's gone after this season.
  4. WHAT!!!????!!!! How does this help his trade value? Oh man, they should have dumped him at the deadline.
  5. Castro was proving the Peter Principle correct this season. He should have just stayed as the bullpen coach, those guys rarely become the target of ire.
  6. Why would we assume that Melvin would have spent $10 million on pitching wisely? Look at the absolute garbage he has brought in on free agent deals: Suppan, Looper, Gagne, Julio, Riske, etc. Meanwhile, Cameron, according to fangraphs, was worth $18 million on the field last year and is one pace to be worth about that much again this season. In my opinion, the chances of Melvin finding that kind of value in free agent pitching were close to nil. Mike Cameron is one of the best players on the Brewers and he has far outperformed his contract.
  7. Yes. Tampa can't have been happy about that grand slam he surrendered to another former Brewer yesterday.
  8. Adam Dunn is one of the rare guys that is even more atrocious defensively at 1st base than he is in left. He would be an extremely poor replacement for Fielder.
  9. Thanks for the link. Springer has had an interesting career. He's only been good 3 or 4 times in his career, yet he's hung around for 17 seasons. Lately he's been useful, but he's 40 years old. Seems worth the risk for the Rays though. Even they can afford $1 million and he can just be dropped if he doesn't work out.
  10. That is no reason to trade Salome away.
  11. I saw an interesting article recently comparing Judd Apatow to John Hughes. I never really cared for most of Hughes' films (except Vacation, which is a classic), but I know a lot of people like them. I can't understand how anybody can watch Ferris Bueller's Day Off without wanting to punch someone, but it's still sad to hear that he died.
  12. I'm very glad Prince didn't get suspended. Hopefully he'll be able to play all 162.
  13. Nice! I figured they would probably get it done. What would be the point of bringing a show back while simultaneously alienating all of the show's core fans by replacing all the actors? That would have been shortsighted on the studio's part.
  14. That's one of the best graphs I've ever seen. I second the 'two devices' idea. I used to have two back when color laser printers were prohibitively expensive.
  15. I considered that, but then I figured that most pitchers are bad, so I didn't think it would change the overall point much (although I figured the variation in winning percentages wouldn't be as great). Perhaps I'm wrong and it would. Maybe I should try doing what he did with a 4 ERA pitcher.
  16. It's interesting that a consistent offense means more wins, whereas an inconsistent pitcher is more valuable than a consistent one.
  17. You might be right, but I think it probably is. The Brewers (Mike Cameron especially) were making all kinds of threats towards the Pirates during their last series with them and the last 2 games of the series passed without incident.
  18. I just hope Prince doesn't get suspended. This kind of incident is not unheard of though. A few years ago, a Jazz rookie named Kirk Snyder taunted Jerry Stackhouse during a game. Stackhouse waited for him after the game and viciously beat him down. More famously, a Warrior named Chris Mills tried to fight the entire Blazer team after an in-game altercation with Bonzi Wells. Mills went so far as to use his car to try to block the Blazer team bus from driving away. Some of the Blazers were going to go out to try to calm Mills down, but Damon Stoudamire, who was friendly with Mills because they both went to Arizona, told his teammates not to try it because he knew Mills to be an unstable gun nut. The team bus had to drive up on the curb to make its getaway, but Mills chased them all the way to the airport before he abandoned his attempt at revenge. Hopefully this will serve as motivation, but I don't know how much that will really help. I'm sure the guys were already pretty motivated to do well, for their own sake and the team's. I doubt that this incident will now make JJ realize he should start hitting well or Suppan and Looper realize they should stop being the two worst pitchers in baseball. They were most likely already trying to play well.
  19. This is wrong. All the studies say that fast players age better than slow players, presumably because they have much more speed to lose before they are unplayably slow.
  20. 30 is hardly washed up. It sounded to me like liveforoctober had Morgan in mind as a one-year stopgap in CF until Cain is ready.
  21. Prince was signed to a two year deal, but was still under control for 3 years. Morgan has been on fire recently. He's a nice little player but the cost to get him from the Nats would probably be prohibitively high, especially if he keeps hitting .387 (which is what he's hitting since leaving Pittsburgh). That's not too likely, but this kind of hot streak will keep a team enamored with a player for awhile.
  22. That's what I think too, I was posting what I hope will happen.
  23. I actually think that September (if current trends continue) should be used as a tryout for Salome and Lucroy. Cut Kendall at the end of August and let Rivera, Lucroy, & Salome each get a couple starts per week.
