  1. yeah, my wife and I have resolved to just enjoy his performances while they last and not worry about how long he can keep it up. What he's doing with such "blah" stuff is pretty amazing.
  2. I like it too, I only have been using Firefox to browse this site. I couldn't successfully edit my profile while I was in Safari for some reason. I would get it how I wanted it, then it would reset back to blank for no particular reason. That got annoying fast, so I figured I would try their recommended browser and it's been a lot better. Safari is still my main browser though.
  3. That's what I thought too. I guess what probably happened is that the D'Backs claimed him when the Marlins tried to get him through waivers and the Marlins decided to let him go and shed his salary.
  4. Weird, the site doesn't work very well with Safari (the Mac browser) for me, so I downloaded Firefox (I already use it on my PC, but Safari seems to be pretty good security-wise) and it works perfectly, except for one thing: That part on the top of the page that goes like this: Brewerfan.net Fan Forum > Brewerfan.net Issues & Events Is in a white font so it's invisible unless I highlight it, which is slightly annoying because I use those links a lot to navigate. Is that happening for anyone else?
  5. Nice to see that Parra got that kind of respect despite his injury problems. Sheets got best curve back in like 2004 or 2005, nice to see him reclaim his spot. I'm a little surprised Turnbow got 3rd best fastball. His fastball is obviously very good, but it doesn't seem that much better than Cordero's, for example. Also, I'm very surprised that Gallardo didn't get named one of the top 3 PCL pitching prospects. I guess Lincecum, Hughes, and Bailey must have beat him out? Were they all in the PCL?
  6. I also see that the D'Backs claimed Byung-Hyun Kim off waivers from the Marlins. Hmm, they're making some moves, aren't they? Kim is a guy I've liked for awhile, but his arm just hasn't been the same since he got hurt late in 2003. I keep hoping he'll get some arm strength back eventually (he's only 28 ), but who knows?
  7. Hmm, I also had missed that he was DFA'd. Or was this one of those where the Twins were sending him through waivers like teams do with old guys in August and the D'Backs claimed him and the Twins just figured they may as well let him go and save the money?
  8. edit: whoops, no wonder I couldn't find anything today, he got called up and played yesterday.
  9. Interesting, but wouldn't the fact that he was about to be traded make them more desperate to unload his jerseys? At least, that's how most places that sell jerseys seem to act. I've been at stores where jerseys of a guy who was traded weeks before are still being sold for full price.
  10. I agree, but I was just saying the fact that Suppan is the guy holding that distinction is a little depressing, though I guess less depressing than when it was Jeffrey Hammonds holding the title. you are assuming that there will be a "next free agent". I hope you're right, but Suppan takes up 1/7th of the payroll and the guys the team has are just going to get more expensive. That's the main problem I have with the deal, if your payroll isn't that high, I'm not sure that you can really afford to pay average guys average money.
  11. Nice, Corey is totally justifying a lot of people's faith in him. I admit that I wasn't the biggest Corey fan at first (I questioned whether his approach would transfer to MLB), but he has gotten on-base at a much better rate than I thought he would. Combine that with his power and speed and he's a heck of a player.
  12. But if that's the case, why is Pittsburgh being roundly criticized for picking up a guy (Matt Morris) with much better career numbers who is making less per year and is signed only through next year? I just think it's a little depressing that the biggest free agent the Brewers have signed in at least 20 years is a league average pitcher who has been given the largest contract in team history. I know that isn't really anybody's fault, but still.
  13. Stax is great, I'll definitely keep an eye out for this documentary. I especially like Wendy Rene. She only cut 3 songs in her career but all 3 of them are excellent. Albert King is another of my favorites. I have that complete Stax/Volt singles box set and the amount of great music on it is staggering.
  14. I don't know if signing him was Melvin's biggest mistake, but it was definitely a mistake in retrospect. The fact is that he turned out to be superfluous. I don't really blame Melvin for panicking after last year, but it would have been nice if he could have kept his head a little better and realized that some pitching prospects would eventually pan out. I wish the Brewers didn't have 1/7th or so of their payroll tied up in a 4th/5th starter.
  15. Those are some real nice points you bring up Chris. Interesting stuff, and I have to say that I share the same general feelings about Linebrink that you seem to have.
  16. gosh, you really love to ride me about Capuano. I know w/l doesn't tell you much about a guy's inherent quality. However, losing 12 straight starts is not a good sign for the year where it happens, which is all I was saying.
  17. interesting that that article mentions that the Brewers have lost Capuano's last 12 starts. That is terrible (obviously). I knew he had been pitching poorly, but I didn't realize that his spot has been an automatic loss for awhile now.
  18. I'm well aware of that, but they could still use a bench.
  19. how do you do that?
  20. dang, why'd the Braves cut him? He was just starting to find his stroke. I wouldn't mind the Brewers picking him up in September, but I think I would pass for now.
  21. darn, I thought it was always readable. I guess that's because I knew what it said. anyway, I have the same question as pogo. I'd like to make the pages contain more replies but i don't see an obvious way to do that. (also, where are the tabs for codes and stuff (I mean bold, italic, quote, font color, etc.)?)
  22. I meant that's all he's shown so far. but whose fault is that? Brad got demoted the previous 2 years, it's not like the team didn't give him a shot. true. However, they have much better track records than him. Youth doesn't necessarily mean a guy will develop.
  23. I don't see why. They would just be throwing money away if they called him up because he's not a guy you want in a competitive game. Let him try to earn a spot next year.
  24. Bruce, I said that they aren't making the moves they need to in order to compete. I didn't elaborate, but you felt free to insinuate that I thought they had let people go who they should have kept. That's not what I'm saying. What I am saying is that all throughout Johan's tenure with the team, the Twins have had glaring weaknesses at one or more spots and have done little to address those. So, despite having a great bullpen and 2 excellent position players, they haven't done as well as they maybe could have. For all the talk about how great the pitching prospects they have developed are, they could easily trade a few to get an upgrade or two in the lineup. The Twins have been absolutely dreadful at 3rd, SS, LF, and DH this year and their top reserve is Jason Tyner. Those positions (with the exception of SS) are pretty easy to upgrade and there is freely available talent that would improve what they have at those spots. Given that, if they were to trade a couple pitchers, they could make an even larger upgrade. So, to think that Johan is unaware that 4/9ths of the lineup is dreadful and would be easy to upgrade is bizarre. I think his frustration is 100% justifiable in ways that maybe it wouldn't be if he was on another team.
  25. I'm hoping for Parra on Thursday, but I think it'll be Capuano.
