  1. He's now up to #28. Everybody above him has at least 100 more plate appearances than him and most have 200 more.
  2. Or in Minneapolis. I hope they eventually amend these blackout rules.
  3. neither game is on for people out of market. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif at least I have gameday audio, but it sucks that at least the 2nd game isn't on directv.
  4. To tie this thread all together, wasn't it Steve Phillips who said on BBTN a couple years ago that Cliff Lee was the best lethanded pitcher in baseball? I remember some dope said that. edit: It was Phillips who said that. He said it last April. Phillips just says so many stupid things that you wonder how he ever got into a position of authority at all, much less one running an enterprise like a major league baseball team.
  5. I wouldn't sue either because his misdiagnosis didn't (thankfully) cause you any real injury. However, I would report him to the Better Business Bureau or whatever the equivalent of that is for doctors. A guy shouldn't be able to just get away with being incompetent, people should have a way to find out what a doctor's track record is like. After all, as my dad is fond of saying, half of all doctors finished in the bottom half of their class (perhaps not literallly true, as some lower echelon guys probably don't finish their residencies, but I still think it's funny). So, to conclude, I would look into what sort of consumer organization collects complaints about bad doctors and report him there. Then I would find a new doctor. I know that can be a huge hassle with the many restrictions most insurance companies have, but I don't see how you could trust that guy (or anybody at his practice) anymore.
  6. I agree. I was watching this coverage live while I was at some restaurant downtown that for some reason had FoxNews on. The only thing I could think of was how this would all be blamed on the guy making the getaway and no one would mention the sheer idiocy of the media and the police in chasing people at high speeds through densely populated urban areas. I hate the whole idea of police chases, what good can come of it? Cops get to feel like they're John McClane and the media gets to hope that a car pinwheels into a gasoline tanker so they can show the footage for days on end. It's disgusting to me that there is so little care for the safety of bystanders. Anyway, in my opinion the fault lies mostly with the people in the helicopters. If they hadn't crashed chasing a high speed chase, they probably would have crashed trying to get the best footage of some horrible accident on the freeway or some other ghoulish thing. Sure, it's a tragedy that the guys died. That doesn't change the fact that their deaths were imbecilic and meaningless. The fact that the authorities appear ready to railroad the guy who was being chased is just ridiculous. How about charging the cops for making themselves the spectacle? It takes two to make a high-speed "chase", the chasee can't do it alone. I know that there are laws that say that if you are committing a felony, any bad things that happen during the commission of that felony can be blamed on you. The law makes good sense in general, but like most things, it should be used in moderation. If that guy is charged with murder or manslaughter, it's a travesty of justice. Not that the guy is blameless, but to charge him would imply that he is the only one to blame, which is patently false.
  7. sorry about the above post, I see several people mentioned the thing about the surgery. Didn't mean to pile on. Anyway, McClung's major league numbers are just ugly. That's even more true of his numbers as a reliever though. It's a relatively small sample but here are his ML career relief numbers: 55 2/3 innings 41 earned runs 53 hits 49 walks 45 strikeouts 1.83 WHIP 6.63 ERA McClung is a serious reclamation project. There can't be that many guys who have been that bad and then later become good. Let's hope he can get it turned around, but judging from his minor league walk numbers, I'm very skeptical that he can. That's the biggest adjustment to the majors from AAA, guys won't swing at stuff they'll strike out on in AAA. We saw that with Balfour (extremely small sample, but it was true when he was with the Twins too).
  8. He has had TJ surgery though. Still, not a bad move.
  9. wow, that guy is some kinda crazy. hopefully he gets the help he needs while he's in the joint (which seems unlikely to happen in Texas, but who knows). edit: in case that guy finds this post, I'm just kidding fella. you're alright.
  10. Supposedly Da Meat Hook is about to sign a 2 year extension with Washington. 2 years/$10 million or so is the word. I'm not sure about this move. Signing Belliard to a small deal made sense because he's willing to be a backup and he's making a lot less than Counsell (for example). Young could be a good deal, but if Johnson comes back, I'm not sure Dmitri will look good in the outfield.
  11. Hmm, Kenny's 3rd stint in Cleveland. Seems like a good deal for Cleveland. Their corner outfielders have been terrible, so Kenny should help a lot. He'll probably get his first career experience in left field as a result of this trade. An outfield line-up of: Lofton/Sizemore/Gutierrez should be pretty good offensively and defensively, and they still have Nixon, Michales and Dellucci on the bench to sub when needed. Actually, they should probably get rid of either Nixon or Dellucci, as they are very similar players and both have been horrible this year. Maybe they could send Nixon back to Boston, Epstein got fleeced in a trade for one of his old players last year (Mirabelli), maybe they can make it happen again.
  12. If the team starts trying to get guys to hit more grounders, I don't even know what to say.
  13. I don't really like this, because, where does Dye fit? He's not an upgrade in right, and he can't play center. Plus, then what was the point in trading for Linebrink if they then dump on of their semi-reliable bullpen guys?
  14. I'd say it depends on how much per square foot new houses go for in the Carolinas. I've heard it's low there, but I can't find any numbers on-line. If you plan on building the house yourself, go with the land. If you don't, do some research on contruction costs. I would call around to some developers in your area and see what they charge to build a house comparable to the $265,000 house that you are thinking of.
  15. Your coach loved his cliches, huh? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Anyway, I always find Camus instructive in situations like this (see sig below).
  16. this seems like the key point. Judging from what they had to give up to get a guy like Linebrink, I don't think the Brewers have the assets to get a Dunn or a Griffey or even a Dye anymore. I mean, they obviously could if they wanted to give up Braun or Gallardo or maybe Weeks or Villanueva or Hardy, but those moves would cripple the team long-term and probably hurt the team this year too (with the possible exception of Weeks). That's what I don't understand about the Linebrink move. Last year, the Yankees got Abreu and Lidle for basically nothing at all. This year, the Brewers have to gut their pitching depth in order to get an ok relief pitcher.
  17. I don't necessarily hate any players but I do dislike some, especially: David Eckstein Royce Clayton
  18. Well, we can still hope that the Cubs lose, at least.
  19. But would either be a real upgrade? Both of them are hitting about average this year, but last year both of them hit worse than what Weeks and Graffanino are doing this year. I don't think any move made to get either of those guys would make much sense. The upgrade would be negligible or non-existent, imo. Giving away more talent for such a small upgrade would not be a smart use of resources, I don't think.
  20. If we like FIP, the Linebrink trade looks pretty worrisome. He was at 3.76 last year and he's at 5.64 this year. That hardly seems worth giving up what the Brewers did.
  21. He shouldn't complain, Milwaukee is who gave him his $3 million contract. The two aren't mutually exclusive. He did have to settle for a minor league deal from the Red Sox.
  22. yeah, but the goblin had the sword. I dunno, it just seemed incongruous.
  23. This is definitely a problem, especially when a team signs an average guy to a huge deal. Indeed. It'll be a real shame if Suppan's deal keeps them from making moves that actually help the team (which keeping Cordero would probably do). That's why I prefer to only spend big money on actual good-great players. Apparently not very, considering what the Brewers just gave up to get a 7th inning guy. A couple have one this year. Todd Jones and Joe Borowski are pretty iffy or maybe even bad. Wickman isn't that good anymore. Alan Embree is pretty bad. A team can be good without a top closer, but it's definitely nice to have one. This is an excellent question. The last few personnel moves the Brewers have made haven't made a whole lot of sense to me. Let's hope they work out, but why they felt the need to get a guy like Suppan if it was going to cost them better players I'll never really get. This hopefully won't be the case. When they signed him, I wasn't that upset because I figured if they were willing to eat a couple mill they could easily deal him. However, it turns out he has a no-trade clause, and now he is pitching pretty poorly. Suffice to say that I'm much less sanguine about the chances of him being dealt now.
  24. Gosh, this has just been a depressing couple days. The Brewers top 2 prospects are gone (for different reasons, obviously) and an undrafted guy who worked his way up to AAA and looked ready to help now is just thrown away. Geez, I'm not sure why I feel so bad about this sequence of events. Oh well, what can you do.
  25. LF Adam Dunn worth (3 points) Prediction: New York Yankees RF Jermaine Dye ( 5 points) Prediction: Minnesota Twins 1B Mark Texiera ( 10 points) Prediction: Baltimore Orioles SS Edgar Renteria ( 2 points) Prediction: Atlanta Braves SP Matt Morris ( 3 points) Prediction: Seattle Mariners RP Eric Gagne ( 3 points) Prediction: Chicago Cubs RP Octavio Dotel ( 5 points) Prediction: Boston Red Sox 1B Richie Sexson ( 3 points) Prediction: Seattle Mariners 1B Dimitri Young ( 4 points) Prediction: Minnesota Twins RP Joaquin Benoit ( 2 points) Prediction: Detroit Tigers I see Renteria and Sexson staying with their current teams. Renteria because he is excellent and the Braves need him (despite all the talk of Yunel Escobar) and Sexson because his contratc is too large for any team to take the risk. The Mariners would be better served to just wait it out and hope he starts hitting. Actually, all the guys will probably stay, but it's fun to see trades, so I hope some go down (and not another Brewers one like the Linebrink one).
