  1. Good luck to Alec in Sacramento (and hopefully Oakland).
  2. Yes, I still hold out hope for Parra as a starter as well, though I wouldn't mind seeing him in the pen this year and/or next year. Rogers will be a reliever, imo. If his mechanics are really as bad as everybody says, I would think they would want to limit his chance of getting hurt by having him pitch fewer innings in relief. Plus, he's only got 2 pitches, which can be hard for a ML starting pitcher to have success with (I know that plenty of guys do have success with only 2 pitches, but I'm talking in general terms).
  3. That's an interesting question. Also, it would be interesting to know who he hit his regular season homers off of too. Not that I think it matters that much, but it could give us a little idea of how long it might take him to adjust to MLB.
  4. Definitely, it can't hurt to have a guy like him hanging around in AAA.
  5. I concur with this assessment. I could maybe see him as a LOOGY though if he can develop an out pitch to use on lefties. He doesn't seem to have great stuff or great results so he'll be lucky to ever do much in the majors.
  6. Cool, thanks for the info. Let's hope he can stay injury free and show what he can do.
  7. oh, ok. The ticket agent guy was misinformed then (not a big surprise).
  8. Same thing happened to the Sporting News like 15-20 years ago.
  9. This may have been brought up in the past or may not be feasible for one reason or another, but have you guys ever thought of adding a BrewerFan wiki like the ones that baseballreference.com, baseballthinkfactory.org, and sosh.com have? I don't mean an entry on wikipedia, but rather a whole wiki devoted to the Brewers and various events in team and fan history. I think it could be a great thing that would really help to make BF.net the one stop shop for Brewer fans. The pages for individual players could also be used as repositories for links to all the articles that Mass and others go to so much trouble finding. I think it would be fun and I would be willing to devote a lot of my time to helping get it going if such a thing is possible. The wikipedia-type software seems to fall under the GPL, so I don't think there would any cost there. I guess it would have to be hosted on a server, but text doesn't usually take up that much room, does it? I don't know, maybe I'm stepping out of line here but I think it could be very interesting.
  10. The worst was once when I followed a link on a basketball ezboard to an article on another board which turned out to be a white supremacist sports board. So, for a while, whenever I clicked on "back to community" it took me to that garbage.
  11. That is a great feature. It's not as big an issue on this board, but I hate boards where people put some big controversial question in the title (ie, "Was Robin Yount actually a sucky player?" or something like that) and then don't post any kind of interesting argument but just put a "?" or something.
  12. It sucks that people swear when they aren't supposed to but isn't bull(blank) kind of an accepted baseball word? I see why you would be upset about ****** though.
  13. I thought that they moved the Pink Bat game to Saturday the 2nd? At least that is what my tickets say.
  14. Speaking of which, whatever happened to that guy from Rice that the Brewers got in one of those rounds a couple years back? I remember some people thought he looked pretty good and had a shot to be as good as Rice's big 3. I guess he hasn't panned out?
  15. It's kinda cute. Minimalist, but sorta interesting.
  16. I didn't mean to imply that they weren't fair, I was just surprised. When I was collecting bobbles a couple years ago I only saw one modern bobble that consistently went anywhere near that high and that was the Doug Mietkiewicz Twins bobblehead where he was blowing a bubble from 2002: http://us.st11.yimg.com/us.st.yimg.com/I/yhst-95869296041517_1950_39616385
  17. oh sorry homer, I didn't realize you were referring to a specific guy, I thought you meant generally. edit: pretty funny that Mark Loretta struck out former top prospect in baseball Ruben Rivera in a major league game in 2001.
  18. Jeff Kent and Hank Aaron spring immediately to mind. Hank didn't play that much at either spot but he did play both. Howie Kendrick did it last year.
  19. Yes, but it seems to be kind of a matter of degrees in most cases, as you allude to in the rest of your post. Plus, I'm not really talking about that, more about how people get attached to these specific animals (ie, name them, care for them, play with them, etc.) and then send them to the fights or the slaughterhouse.
  20. I'm still interested in Wii Play and Madden. I'll take Bass Fishing as well. What do you want just for those games (not the controller that Wii play came with)? I am very, very interested.
  21. What's up with Olympia Fats these days? I never liked Eveland but his numbers in the minors were quite good. I'm kind of surprised that he appears to be going the Hendrickson route. Luckily for the D-Backs he is still quite young (only Villanueva and Prince are younger than him among current Brewers).
  22. In some ways yes, but I'm especially interested in the duality of loving an animal (whether it's a fighting dog or a prize cow or sheep) and then actively putting it in a stiuation where it will get killed. Roy Jones Jr. is a huge cockfighting advocate. He talks about it openly and seems to believe it is a legit sport, despite the fact that it is a felony in most states. He's a big trainer of fighting [roosters]. Here's a quote from him about it: ''I give my roosters the best of food. I give them the best of care. I give them everything they want before I ask them to sacrifice.'' That kind of turns my stomach, but so does the thought of a slaughterhouse, so who knows? (Edit: dealt with some word filter issues; bracketed [roosters] replaces the 'banned' word; see my post at the top of page 2 --1992casey)
  23. That's pretty cool. If you want an autograph expert's opinion, I would try asking nBo baseball (Joe Gillespie). He posts here sometimes and is a really, really nice guy who is very knowledgable when it comes to autographs. His website is: nbobaseball.com/ His email address in on there.
  24. $100 and $75? Is that really how much those things are worth? Wow, nice investment.
  25. Why would trading Gross and/or Gwynn to make room for Nix make any sense? Gross has at least shown he can be a servicable platooon option. Nix has shown nothing, so if the object is having a good team, I think that having him around hurts that effort. Dump Nix on KC or Wash for a AA/AAA fireballer who can't throw strikes and be done with it. You aren't going to get anything for Gross anyway, so why trade the superior player rather than the infrior one?
