  1. Nyjer has 1500 PA against RHP with a line of .305/.357/.393. Aoki has 18 (very good) plate appearances this season. I also would like to see a little bit more Aoki, especially while Morgan is struggling (K rate up a little, hitting a lot of ground balls)....but I think calls to replace him in the platoon are premature. Each of the next two series are against 2 RHP and 1 LHP, if I had to guess we'll see each guy out in CF for one game (like happened this series). I'm more than OK with that, and then as the season goes on/samples get larger the team can adjust accordingly. But I think over the course of a week (assuming no off days) we should more or less see Morgan get 3-4 starts, Gomez get 2, Aoki getting 2-3 starts (spelling Hart every other week or so)
  2. Yes, but they're also our backup corner outfielders. Most teams carry 5 OF, and so do the Brewers. There is zero reason they "have to" move someone, especially since it is very nice to have the depth.
  3. I'm not saying this because I think brewers fans complain about lineups too much (I think every fan complains about lineups too much, myself included)....but the next time you're upset about the brewers lineup just remember: NED YOST IS BATTING YUNI LEADOFF TONIGHT. No matter what roenicke runs out there, it could be worse.
  4. I feel like I read Hart and Randy Wolf somewhere. Maybe KRod too.
  5. The fact that BABIP doesn't stabilize in a season is how people use it to evaluate a player. Zack Greinke's career BABIP is about .300 (pretty much standard) but last season it was .320 (and much higher than that until the last 6 weeks or so)...so people utilize BABIP to say last season Greinke could have been unlucky and was likely a better pitcher than his results (ERA and WHIP) were showing. Or for a hitter, Mark Teixeira had one of his worst seasons last year. he has a career BABIP of around .300 but last season it was like .240 so that can be used to show that he was unlucky and is likely a better hitter than his results showed and could bounce back this year. Or the inverse for a guy like Emilio Bonifacio who had a good season last year but was likely bouyed by a BABIP around .375.
  6. yea, that's what i was thinking as far as having "no warning". also about it being a weak argument.
  7. I don't have a problem with Estrada starting, I just don't want Peralta to end up in a long relief role this early in the season. He needs to be in a rotation, whether it's in milwaukee or nashville. The difference to the major league team between Estrada and Peralta probably isn't much...I just want Peralta to be in a rotation somewhere.
  8. I get the fear of Morgan regressing, but I still think he'll be a productive hitter in the platoon against RHP over the course of the season. I understand wanting Aoki to get a start here and there (and would even be in favor of it so long as his defense is OK, which it should be)....but I do not understand why people are asking for Morgan to be traded. a) I don't think he'd bring THAT much back, b) he was really really good last year, and even with regression to his career averages against RHP he is still a productive major league player, and c) it's really nice to have this depth in the OF and be able to bring Gomez/Morgan to pinch run/field (worked out very well the first two games against the dodgers) as well as have Aoki/Morgan as a PH against RHP or Gomez against LHP coming off the bench. I understand thinking Aoki may earn some starts, but I don't understand wanting to make our bench even weaker by trading a guy like Morgan.
  9. Loney stayed on the bag. No idea how he made that call on the Aoki tip though. edit: i just rewound to the super slo mo replay (after Aoki's at bat had started) and I think I see what you're saying about Loney. His toe stayed on the ground really really close to the bag, but he might have lifted the ball of his foot off of it. Very close, and no way the brewers get that call. Aoki still should have walked though.
  10. also the NL worst ERA probably has a lot more to do with being on pace to give up 200+ homeruns than a 10 game sample of infield defense.
  11. http://brewersmission162.mlblogs.com/ Don't know if anyone's posted this or talked about it anywhere (I couldn't find it), but I thought it was worth mentioning. Going to all 162 games is a pretty awesome mission, it's for a good cause, and the Brewers have been very gracious in helping Ben out on his quest. He's been staying with me in Atlanta for this depressing series. Anyway, we're about to head out to game 3 (10 for Ben)...it's worth checking out. go brewers!
  12. I don't think last night's game is an indicator for the rest of the season....like you said in the other thread there were soooo many casual fans. lots of drunk 20 somethings who needed something to yell about. I'll provide an update on how tonight goes, I don't think it'll be as bad....I could be wrong though. And you're right on Arizona.
  13. I woke up to make a post about my gameday experience last night....and it was EXACTLY the same as dlk9s from the beginning (so many casual fans), the middle (turner field normally being a good experience for random braves games, taking the MARTA last night), and through the end (going to one game in Atlanta last year before I went out of town....and it was the rainout). Well played.
  14. not that I'm wishing for a loss today or anything, but that works for me. extrapolate that out to all weekend though.
  15. it's only one game (and some other ABs sprinkled in), so it's a little soon to go that far. That said, I've really enjoyed watching him play today. 1-2 with a BB and 24 pitches in 3 AB. Definitely do not mind him in the lineup, but not ready to say he should jump to the top of the CF list. one game. Two early? He did it all spring and for how many years in Japan. There is a reason he was batting champ in Japan, and it appears he isn't struggling much to adjust to big league pitching. Um, yes, too early. He's made 6 plate appearances against big league pitching. They have been 6 very nice plate appearances, but I don't think that it's enough to say he should be starting over a guy with an OPS of .780 last season. But it is good to know we have that option if Morgan regresses this year or enters a prolonged slump, which is possible. but 6 PA is not >>> a whole season edit: george kottaras is a greek god. ******* my mlb.tv feed is slow.

  17. I'm pretty sure Couch was sent to the game to gauge and write about the fan reaction in Braun's first road game. That's what Fox wanted, and that's what he wrote about (or at least what the story was framed around). The best way to get that fan reaction is to be with the fans (and in wrigley, in the bleachers), not in a press box. It was an opinion piece, and he has the right to his opinion. Like dlk9s said, there's a very blurry line between fact and opinion when it comes to journalism (specifically in sports). Writers blur that line, and readers tend to take everything as "fact". Just the way it is. And for the record, I thought the article wasn't very good and didn't need to be written. Just defending Couch's right to his opinion, and I think brewers fans get overly defensive and overreact every time something is written negatively about braun. I'm of the opinion of rwa above, he beat it and knew he would take a PR hit. I don't give a damn about the PR hit, he's playing and that's what matters. Let them write their articles, Braun doesn't care and I don't either.
  18. and in the opinion of many others that could be read as "I didn't have any other defense outside of chain of custody, there's no other 'real story' that my friends, family, and teammates know". Not saying that's what I think, but that's a valid opinion just like yours is. And an opinion like that is going to lead to articles asking Braun to tell the whole story, and they'll likely have the assumption of guilt (because chain of custody is viewed by most as a technicality).
  19. almost all singles. and wolf had 7 K's....just seemed like every time the Cards made contact it was fouling off a pitch or a single that found a hole.
  20. I think FOX only has the one channel, so that's the channel they want their ratings on. therefore, you're not able to watch any other baseball. DirecTV can't show the games on another channel, because FOX has "exclusive" rights in the window of when they're broadcasting (between 4 and 7 EST). I don't know if that's a sufficient explanation....but there really isn't a sufficient explanation when it comes to MLB and their blackout policy.
