  1. I think the term, "fat", gets thrown out too much with Prince. It isn't his FAT that concerns me as much as just the sheer weight. Honestly, if he were to get fat, he'd probably LOSE weight. I'd rather have the granite 300lb. Prince, however, than the doughy 270lb Prince. And Prince's batting eye has always been exempliary, IIRC. And as referenced in the original discussion, only one of those two first baseman is making it around third for an Inside The Park at the Metrodome.
  2. I have actually witnessed first hand a few of my friends' gfs wanted to come with us to Miller for the express purpose of seeing Prince. I figured it would be JJ, but as Greg Maddux once opined, "Chicks dig the longball."
  3. To be fair, we also had Elmer Dessens but he proved to be unworthy of a spot on the 25-man. And when I think of Villy out of the 'pen last year, I remember the young gent who was doing very well but ended up breaking down because of overuse, like T-Bow. And Reclamation infers that they are unwanted, while I would think half of our bullpen would be wlecome additions to any bullpen in the majors.
  4. I think the answer has to be Braun. Unless he wins the MVP next year, it is going to be a disappointing year. As for a disappointing pitcher, I think Brian Shouse is going to get lit up and be an ineffective LOOGy, but thanks to our farm system, we have a Mitch Stetter in stock who just needs a chance to shine.
  5. Also, let's be honest. This year is going to be a lot different for Wisconsinites and their affinity for the Brew Crew. Up until last year, the Fair Weather Fan couldn't remember the last lineup that produced a non-losing record. Now...I walk around Green Bay and see more Brewer hats than Packer hats. It is no longer taboo to approach a stranger in a bar wearing a Brewer shirt and strike up a convo about their favorite Brewer or a random game experience. Last year, Wisconsin needed to take Back Miller PRIDE. I think they succeeded on all fronts.
  6. I'd be blue if we threw money at him!
  7. Well I would think that of all the ace-quality pitchers out there, that Haren would be the most appealing to the Brewers, given his contract status and the fact he once pitched in the NL Central. As long as CV the Younger doesn't become the new "Dan Haren", I can't imagine how this would be that bad of a deal. All these young players are going to have their contracts inflate exponentially in the next couple of years, and while we should be able to pay some, others will be forced to be traded. My only fear if you give up both Parra and CV is that the next pitcher to be called up from AAA would seem to be ZachJack... But Claudio Vargas is our long man. So we have that going for us.... which is nice.
  8. Try saying "Sheets/Swisher/Street" really quick five times. Seriously!
  9. Couldn't it be the first BIG deal.... No offense to Quentin but I would rather have Dukes than Quentin, and I can only imagine the YouTube clips of a bare knuckle fist fight between Prince and Dukes... Pay Per View!
  10. First trade- Miggy to Anaheim for Mathis/Kendrick/Bootcheck/Adenhart Brewers Rolen and $6mil for Escobar/Cappy/Gwynn
  11. Couldn't we just hang onto Billy and peddle him to the loser of the Miguel Tejada sweepstakes?
  12. Or a rebuilding franchise like Pittsburgh....
  13. Well would anyone argue that barring Andy Pettitte going all Hessian (for those Revolutionary War buffs) and offering up his services to the highest bidder, that Jeff Suppan would be the top available Starting Pitcher on the Free Agency market? Bartolo could be given some looks but the Soup Man has no health risk or conditioning risk. I just think that if he were on the market, there would be an absolute bidding war. And that's not to say that I advocate trading him, because the trade market is nowhere near the FA market, but he could make a pretty penny.
  14. Silva never pitched as well, and isn't coming off of a postseason of dominance. Zito got $126mil for a dominant season three years prior because he was the top available FA.
  15. I don't mean to ask the question of whether it was a good signing or not, as it is much to early to exact his overall value to our club. Moreover, what I mean to ask is what would last year's top FA signing be privy to in THIS offseason, of overfilling coffers, huge demand, and no supply. Imagine a pitcher coming off a huge postseason, where he played quite the able #2 for the eventual WS Champs, securing an NLCS MVP trophy and eating a lot of innings. Does anyone think there could be some team out there that might be so enamored with the guy as to offer him 5/75? And then on a team that eventually fell just short of postseason contention, he leads the team in W's, a team with a former 18-game winner, a Golden Boy of epic proportions, and the player who carried Francisco Liriano's "K-King of the Minors" Crown before being promoted and is viewed as a verified ace (sorry for the mouthful). What could the gent expect this offseason, if he were a FA?
  16. I thought Shane Victorino was slated for CF duties there. Or, perhaps, they are angling to sign Andruw Jones from a divisional rival and add even more power to that lineup.
  17. I understand what happened with Graffy last year, but wouldn't it be worthwhile to offer him arbitration? Perhaps we could even get him to do a bit of a handshake "under the table" that he won't accept. I just want to see "Moneyball 2; BEER Ball" on bookshelves next X-Mas.

  19. Kemp is a beast who can play all three positions in the outfield...and is a 5-tool contributor. The guy I always thought he would compare well to would be Delmon Young, except more fleet of foot and a couple less HR's (but more doubles).
  20. I think he's also confusing Otsuka with Gagne, as it was long rumored that Jr. Gwynny was going to be the centerpiece for that trade. Then again, I also remember the hold-up in the deal for Gagne to us being that the Sox were offering "ML-Ready" players while we were only offering prospects, like Jr. Gwynny in AAA. Second of all, I would be ecstatic to imagine Wood shutting games down as our closer and Sheets/Prior/Yo starting next year's NLCS...against the WC winner, our illegitimate brothers to the South.
  21. I think it needs to be said that one of the best surprises for this team this year was the true depth of our staff. Sheets/Cappy/Bush v. Yo/Villy/Parra, with Soup v. Claudio....the depth of our starting pitching was groovy. And something must be said of CoCo and his follow-up to last year. If he does leave, I could see Gagne mirroring his ascension back to prominence.
  22. At one point, Rogers was putting up "Yo"-type K numbers (his 5 game run before the injury) that made true Brew Bleeders to salivate at the thought of those two arms for the next 10 years. Now while those numbers were mixed with poor BB totals, he still has the fastball/slider combo to dominate, if he can ever harness and hit (his spots).
  23. Well then let me ask you this, Who hit better at AAA, Braun or Weeks? And also, tell me again what our record is WITH Braun in the lineup as opposed to without? Braun is a great hitter, but so was Hardy with Fielder behind him.
  24. BTW-I think Braun is the most overrated player on the team. He reminds me of the story of the talent agent who goes into a bar one night. He sees a cricket singing as a frog plays the piano. He goes up to the bar and asks the 'keep what he would sell the frog for, assuming the singing cricket would be much too expensive. The 'Keep then tells him that the frog isn't for sale but he can procure the cricket for $10,000. The agent immediately cuts a check and takes off with the cricket. A few moments after the agent's exit, another patron comes over to ridicule the 'Keep about how he made such a poor sale, to which the Happy Barkeep replies..."The Frog is also a ventriloquist." What is Braun without Fielder?
  25. Jr. Gwynny, CV the Younger, Estrada, and Ryan Braun for Grady Sizemore, Casey Blake, and V-mart? I can only imagine the headaches Ned would get from putting the lineups together next year. CF Sizemore 2B Weeks C V-Mart 1B Prince RF Hart LF Gross 3B Blake SS Hardy P Yo!
