  1. I'll concede that the Brewers have underperformed thus far, but we still have a lot of time left. Imagine being a Cubs fan or a Phillies fan last year. The Brewers and Mets were the toast of the land. Then, Ned left them in the toaster too long and burned the Quik-E-Mart down. Very sad story. But that nucleus that stormed otu to the early lead is still very much intact, and has yet to be ignited. It pains me greatly to see Stetter, a guy I have been warming too quite a lot lately, both in hopes for this year and beyond, give up his first runs of his major league career, but then I remember what this young gent has done in his young career. Braun....ROY. Hart....an amalgamation of Sizemore and Soriano. Hardy...All-Star. Prince....MVP candidate and leader of the longball, a regular Larry David (and how cool would it be to see Larry sport a Prince jersey. Pretty good...) And Weeks...well I don't know what we have in Weeks, but you can't argue with his run production and OBP-skills at the top of the order. When you factor in that Yovanni is a bulldog with no questions regarding his arm or his head, you can't help but feel warm and fuzzy. With or without Sheets, we will see the postseason in the next three years. I also am of the opinion that the Brewers have a better than not chance of being in first by the break.
  2. It also would affect the Brewers' payroll in that with all the extra revenue in Milwaukee, there would assuredly be more money being spent at the gates by our own fans who would now have extra money. Or maybe the idea of economic stimuli is getting to me. I'm hoping to stimulate my Brewers into being a World Championship-caliber team.
  3. I would think either money or market were the biggest factor in signing with a US team. He didn't eve know the history of the Cubs, and I would be surprised if he knew any hitter in the division outside of Pujols.
  4. And our starting position players and bullpen are predominantly minorities... Just saying. Perhaps they are upset with the Brews for jettisoning their favorite southern belle, Gabe Gross.
  5. Is he a latter-day Sean Burroughs, without the acclaim and fanfare? And Little League World Series Title...
  6. Imagine him getting traded to the Indians, and then getting a sleek pair of skull glasses. But seriously, I think it's time he be moved to a different team, since Yost has explictly said he cannot trust Shaggy in any game time situation right now. We're a positionplayer/pitcher short right now that means. I'm a T-Bow fanatic, and I wish him all the success in the world, but it would seem Milwaukee has soured on their once sweetheart.
  7. 'Tis but a flesh wound. We're still 6-1 vs. lefties, and 6-0 vs. lefties who throw 85+mph. Jamie Moyer, if anything, is a baseball anomoly. He's an outlier. He is the exception that proves the rule. The rule...we kill lefties. Seriously, the only lefty who really scares me would be Liriano '06 and he died shortly after murdering my brews.
  8. Prince looks like a stocky version of Samuel L. Jackson in Pulp Fiction...and you KNOW what is inscribed on Prince's wallet.
  9. Gagné without a doubt. And I would think his paycheck would reflect that.
  10. I second the Villanueva. Perhaps they all are worried about being sent down when Cameron gets back and they're all trying to endear themselves to the Big 'Stache, Doug Melvin. And I believe Hardy has entered the contest. And also, what is up with every 'stache having the token matching soul-patch? Last year, we had the beard, this year, we have the 'stache.
  11. The guy I always wondered about cockiness is Ben Sheets. A guy with the nickname "Golden Boy", who put up a line like his 2004 season, and whose "stuff" can rival anyone's in baseball has all the right to be cocky. And yet, all I ever hear about him is how he is a light-hearted southern boy who has a bit of a primadonna nature, but no more than most other pitchers. Also, on a side note, I would pay money to see a reenactment of the Braun HR with Sheets substitued for Braun. I remember a game last year when Sheets flew out to the warning track and I couldn't help but imagine if he would do the full bat flip or even a Sosa-hop if it would have cleared. Perhaps it's just me. I digress. I have a friend in Arizona who went to 10 games this spring training and she said no player comes off as arrogant (which, to me, has always been a compliment, but most would call it a curse word) and pompous. One other question. What is your friend's assessment of Corey Hart? The amalgamation of Soriano/Sizemore....Sizemoriano, or elongated strike zone that was the benefactor of hitting near Prince in the lineup?
  12. Atkins is the heir apparent to Todd Helton, when he retires, which should coincide with a full-time job for Ian Stewart. I don't see them moving Stewart in the near future.
  13. I've said this before and I'll say it again, it's only a rental if he pitches well this year. If he bombs or gets injured, we're on the hook for the remainder of his contract (2+years). I could see CC being "posted" this year but he'd probably cost as much as Bartolo Colon fetched, which would be comparable to.....Jeffress/Parra/LaPorta/Brewer. I would think if we wanted to expend that many resources on a pitcher, we would have been involved in the Dan Haren dealings, which there is no evidence at all that we were. Rich Harden, on the other hand, could be just the type of lottery ticket that would be highly conducive to our small market situation. His contract is easily absorbable and he's one of the few pitchers who can rival ANY team's ace when he's on....though I would imagine 14 months ago, the same things were said of the great Trojan, Mark Prior. If we weren't going to be wholly realistic, I would speculate King Felix would be a welcome addition, which I would go as far as offering Hart/Hardy/Parra. He's under team control for another 3 years, he's young, and he has perhaps the highest ceiling as a pitcher in the majors.
  14. So was the best pitching performance of last year Benny's Opening Day masterpiece because we went on a tear out of the gates or was it Verlander's no-hitter because it woke up our offense, especially Billy Hall, albeit temporarily?
  15. Very true. There was a quote a year or two ago when we played the Redbirds. Pujols was talking about how Sheets' changeup, and Rolen came over and said Pujols is the only one who could talk about Benny's changeup, as Sheets had no reason, given his other two pitches, to throw it to any hitter outside of the truly elite guys. I'm glad he's putting that pitch in the opposition's mind, as long as he doesn't put it in the opposition's wheel-house.
  16. Well the worst pitcher right now on Cleveland's staff is CC.... I'd take the guy.
  17. I have always been of the mind that it is better to correct someone and upset them than to bite my tongue and allow them to continue their misguided conversation. Much of the time, it does come off as abrasive. Then again, I tend to be more..."injective" with others' conversations when I'm a beer or five in the tank. Nevertheless, much of the time, they also thank me for the correct information.
  18. He's still young, too, however, like Upton. I say we give young Brent another year and a half before we start asking him to change his position. As the agent stated, his value is maximized as a shortstop, and he's only been focusing on shortstop (and baseball) full-time for the last two years.
  19. Let's be honest guys, Turnbow should have been the reliever sent to the All-Star Game last year instead of Coco. He was dominating in the eighth inning, shutting down the meat of the opposition, allowing Coco to get his saves and gaudy numbers versus the back of the lineup, as evidenced by T-Bow's OPS-against contrasted with Coco's. So to say that T-Bow hasn't been good in the last year and a half would be quite the fallacy. However, to imagine that T-bow would elicit an "Adam Miller" would be putting a higher price tag on the reliever than even I can imagine. Marte, on the other hand...interesting.
  20. Do people really think that pitchers like Yo come along for a team every two to three years? Outside of the Braves, I don't think a team in the last twenty years has mass-produced Yo-quality pitchers with relative ease, unless you want to count the Cubs' rise of Wood and Prior. Are we counting that? I will admit I'm very high on the Yo, but even with a dim view of his ability and quality, I still find it hard to believe that our pitching future is bleak, when you also have Parra/Villy...Bush. And maybe the most electric arm in the minors, Jeffress. As for closer, honestly, the guy I would be eyeing if we truly need that elite arm at the end would be Jon Rauch. Supposedly, the Tigers have been trying to acquire him which would lead me to believe he's available, probably for less than they would ask (or did ask) for Chad Cordero (Rickie Weeks...No gracias. Alcides Escobar....you can replace Christian Guzman).
  21. As his K/9 decreases, his run support goes up along with his winning percentage. Hey Benny, no one likes a fascist.
  22. What? No Tomo Ohka love? But seriously, Molitor/Yount/Jenkins/Richie are the cream of the cream....but there is definitely a former player who is the king. Can we all give it up to the truly most BELOVED Brewer....Bob Uecker!
  23. Corey Patterson made a statement in the series, that he is going to be the player Dusty always envisioned him becoming... But seriously folks, the Reds are more apt to give us a good run this year than the Northsiders. The Reds have some very good role players, a good core, and the top hitting prospect in baseball, according to Baseball America, waiting in the wings for his chance. Chicago has....Sam Fuld??? Between the three teams, whose outfield would you want? Soriano/Pie/Fukudome? Braun/Cameron/Hart? Dunn/Bruce or Patterson/Jr. Griffey? Quite the debate, in my humble opinion.
  24. Not only that, but we also have the ability to extend our youngsters instead of being tied to Cordero's big contract. I would boo him until he thought it was his name, but in a way, I also appreciate the fact that he didn't sign with us. But just because it works out in the end does not mitigate his overt greed. And as for the numbers on Jr. Griffey, I believe a lot of his contract is actually deferred so he and Coco could ultimately end up retarding the Reds' ability to extend their young flame-throwing righties.
