  1. I'm sure he cared. He came across as arrogant which usually brings greed along to the party, which brings the constant yearn for numbers that bring big paydays. Plus there's the fire under his butt over his demotion. I'm sure he wanted to pitch great more than ever, since it would have forced him back to the bigs or made his trade value high enough for the crew to trade him. I'm pretty sure everybody cares. The game is so much of an individual one that a player would have to be a total idiot to not care. I think the "he didn't care" stuff is just kind of over-emotional. Gord Ash even said that he was very professional.
  2. I was back and forth between going for a while, but then I decided not to. Once I found out that Neko wasn't going to be there with the Pornographers, that was kind of a deal-breaker. I would have liked to see of Montreal and Iron & Wine, though.
  3. I've been listening to the Isbell CD since May, though, so I had to include it. The New Pornographers doesn't come out until August, I guess I should have phrased it "best music that you have heard, released or not". I had huge expectations for the Isbell album, and although it didn't quite match them it came pretty close. It's a solid album, some great tracks ("Chicago Promenade" being my favorite), and some not so great. He was the heart and soul of DBT for me, though I am looking forward to their new one whenever it happens to come out.
  4. Ted Lilly is a very, very underrated pitcher. I actually expected him to have a lower ERA than he has moving from one of, if not the, best offensive divisions in the league to one of the worst. I would expect him to be around 3.50-3.60 and have right around 200 K's this year. One of the best signings of the offseason, which is a rare thing to say when talking about a move the Cubs made. Zambrano is one of the best pitchers in the league, and he's been hitting his stride lately. I could easily see Rich Hill maintaining what he's done so far and getting around 200 K's, as well. They're probably going to lead the league in K's. Marquis is going to blow up, though and Marshall's not much. All that said, ERA isn't really a great thing to use to evaluate pitchers, since so much of it is team-dependent. Results are results, which is all that matters this season, but they don't tell everything about true ability.
  5. I haven't listened to much new music, but I would say Live at Massey Hall has to be number one. It's one of the best releases of his career. I debated whether or not to include it. It's not like it's unheard, or anything, I think I've had a copy of that show since I was in high school. But it's so good that I had to put it on the list. Elliott Smith's "New Moon" didn't make the list for a similar reason, kind of like why I wouldn't list a greatest hits comp in one of these.
  6. To me, Brantley's physical abilities haven't caught up with his approach to hitting. He's definitely got an advanced enough idea of how to hit to be in AA, but there's also the concern that he might not be physically advanced enough (power-wise) to be super successful at that level. And he's young, so there's not any real rush to have him there. I think it's a tough spot, where you probably have to trust the scouts and coaches to say that he has the makeup to handle tough times in AA (if and when he hits them) in stride.
  7. We haven't had a music thread that's really been that active lately, but it just hit the midway point of the year. My top 10 albums: 1. Wilco - "Sky Blue Sky" 2. The National - "Boxer" 3. of Montreal - "Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?" 4. Ryan Adams - "Easy Tiger" 5. Feist - "The Reminder" 6. Richard Swift - "Dressed Up For the Letdown" 7. The White Stripes - "Icky Thump" 8. Neil Young - "Live at Massey Hall" 9. The New Pornographers - "Challengers" 10. Jason Isbell - "Sirens of the Ditch" (added tag --1992)
  8. THE CONFORMIST Bertolucci doesn't get enough love, as far as I'm concerned. Not only is it one of the greatest looking films ever, it's one of the greatest films period.
  9. Gamel is awesome. I can't wait until he gets out of that park. His numbers would be ridiculous if he was just playing in a neutral park/league, or even just a slightly pitcher friendly one. Is he going to be a lock to move up once his hit streak ends?
  10. As a personal preference, I tend to shy away from the 'higher end' frozen pizzas like DiGiornos, Fruchettas (sp..), and the like. Some of them almost taste too much like a real pizza, and that's a turn-off for me. There's something about that frozen pizza sauce taste that really hits the spot. That is my life's philosophy in a nutshell. No way I'm paying $8 for a frozen pizza. I'm a connoisseur, as well. In fact I'm craving a frozen pizza right now.
  11. That's the front, though. The one in the image in question is the back of the jersey. I agree with those who have said that they are generic pictures.
  12. It's a rising crust pizza. Which is of course the only way to go. It's nothing great, but certainly better than the regular crust. I think they run about $3.99, which is a dollar less than Jack's Rising Crust, in comparison. I'd definitely prefer the Jack's, that's actually a pretty decent pizza. I would probably also put the Orv's pizza ahead of Roma. Romas used to be great back in the day, at least their rising crust. They had this cool wheel thing that you cooked the pizza on. Now I don't think they even make the rising crust and you can get the thin crust 5/$10. By far and away the greatest frozen pizza-related item is the Portesi High Rise pizza fries. They're the best.
  13. I kind of like the 3 Meat Orv's Rizer. But it's a last resort. By far the worst frozen pizza I've ever had is definitely the Urge pizza that Kwik Trip sells. I love the KT but that pizza tastes like cardboard.
  14. It looks like a 0 in that guys number on the last one, or at least definitely not a 5, so it can't be Cooper.
  15. I would say get a 4-track. You can record into the 4-track with the line out into your computer. It won't work as terrific since you can't plug in, but I think that's the best way to do it. But I'm just a fan of 4-tracks. You can do it with a lot less work the ways others have mentioned, though.
  16. I think he'll be fine. He's still been taking his walks, just slumping. I'm very glad the Brewers are getting this series out of the way before he does get hot.
  17. They don't have a day off between now and the break and Villanueva is plenty capable of throwing three innings. Not to mention that Gallardo is now there to provide the possibility of working multiple innings if needed. This is the correct move.
  18. Although this sort of ties in with #4, you may want to consider this rule. 4 ER in 5 IP with a win, and the pitcher "knows how to win." But of course, if the pitcher goes 6 innnings with 3 ER with a loss, well then he just doesn't know how to win. Also, some will say that the guy who won with the 4 ER/5 IP peformance "kept the team in the game and gave them a chance to win" (since the offense was good that day), while on the day the guy who had the quality start and lost, he didn't give the offense a chance.
  19. One of my friends ran into him in Phoenix during spring training last year. Said he's a great dude.
  20. One thing I can't stand is when a player is blamed for the expectations that get put on him, it's not as if he decided to "not live up to the hype". He is what he is - an above-average offensive second baseman with good on-base and base-stealing skills. I have pretty much resigned to the idea that he's not going to be a superstar level player, because I don't think his wrist and the violence of his swing will ever allow it. There is still a chance that he could, of course. That said, he's by far the best in-house option the Brewers have for the next few years. It's not like there's someone in the minors banging down the door to take that job, Iribarren's never going to push him. So, you just wait it out and see what happens.
  21. It may very well be -- but I had heard the same story from other news sources. Yeah, I had read the same thing last week in another article. I don't really think there's a whole lot left to come out from this story, aside from the toxicology reports, which probably aren't going to be anything earth shattering.
  22. Wow. How did Chris Young not make it?
  23. Hart decided to punch bad luck in the face there.
  24. Even though this game sucks so far, worst case is leaving Chicago with a huge lead and heading off to get fat on the Pirates and Nats before a four day all-star break.
