  1. Baseball ticket surcharges are nothing compared to concert ticket surcharges. Like that Rage Against the Machine concert at Alpine - each ticket carries a $12 "convenience charge", and each order carries a $5 "processing fee".
  2. Ron Washington had to wait forever to get a managing job. It's not like there's any qualifications for being a coach in a stupid all-star game. Maybe he and Leyland are friends, who knows?
  3. I've always been a huge Wilkerson fan, but I'm not quite sure what the point of getting him is. You're giving up a guy in Gross who is a really similar player to Wilkerson (LH patience/power guy who can play some CF), without all the nagging injuries. And like Joe said, Wilkerson hasn't hit for a long time. If you got that 30 HR/100 BB guy that he once was, that'd be another issue, but he also just turned 30. This is the guy they should get: www.hardballtimes.com/tht...Name=gomes But he's blown up in the past week or two, and the Dukes situation is coming to a head.
  4. I'd be pretty happy with Brendan Wright. He's got some major upside. Of course, you don't have to squint very hard to also see some Marcus Haislip there.
  5. For folks who might be interested in hearing the album prior to the release, and aren't fans of downloading leaks, you can stream the whole thing on NME.com (registration required): www.nme.com/artists/ryan-adams/media/610
  6. Well, thoughts? I think it's a pretty solid album. That riff in the title track is one of my very favorites ever. The album gets kind of weak in the middle with "Prickly Thorn, But Sweetly Worn", "St. Andrew" (especially), and "Little Cream Soda", but the five songs that bookend those three on each side are all very good. I'd say it's about a 3.5 out of 5, or so. It honestly probably sounds better if you have a crappy stereo, though. There is so much low end on this album that it can give you a headache, sometimes the thumps are too icky.
  7. Ahh, the beauty of playing teams that suck again!
  8. The facts speak for themselves. What facts? He pitched to three hitters and got pulled. It wasn't like he was hung out to dry. Yost went to his most consistent reliever, and he made a bad pitch. It happens. There was nothing wrong with his managing tonight. Gallardo was cruising, and Yost had every reason to think he would continue to when he was facing Feliz, Vizquel, and Frandsen, who are all terrible hitters. You're looking for anything to rip Yost on, and it's silly. I'm far from an apologist or fan of his, but he played it right tonight.
  9. Saenz wasn't near the prospect that Gallardo is, either. He was only called up because it was his turn in the rotation at Huntsville that day and they needed a spot starter.
  10. Ah, I don't really think he did anything wrong tonight. That's really nitpicking to say a guy who had given up one hit in his last five innings and was at 93 pitches should have been pulled. He's made egregious errors in handling the pen in the past, but this definitely doesn't qualify.
  11. What's really amazing is that I'm pretty sure he didn't even unveil his change-up until the last PA for Bonds, when he threw it first pitch down and away. To be able to cruise through a lineup twice with two pitches is pretty incredible (even when that lineup is second to last in the NL in runs scored).
  12. Well, now he should come out for sure. Edit: Wrong thread.
  13. I don't know... it's a tough call. He's really been amazing tonight, so it's tough to pull him at 93. On the other hand, the game is pretty much over. Really, the Brewers handling of him is going to be full of tough calls for the next couple seasons. They really need to resist temptation whenever possible.
  14. Yovani Gallardo is simply marvelous. Even after listening to over half of his starts at AAA this year, I had no idea he was as advanced as he is.
  15. Well, he definitely flashed some brilliance in that inning, though. Bonds and Roberts just had really good AB's against him. The pitch count is probably going to be an issue with him for a while, until the umpires start to give him those pitches that miss by an inch or two, because he doesn't try to pitch to contact.
  16. He's not afraid of you and he will beat your ass. Nice. Yo La Tengo is so much cooler than the old days of G-Love and Special Sauce. Even band references used for #5 starters are better than the old days.
  17. They really lost me this year. However, I must say that I have recently gone on a kick with "The Wire". I had only watched it occasionally before getting the DVD's. What an absolutely amazing show it is. I think it blows away The Sopranos.
  18. I would say right now Fielder, Cordero, and Sheets.
  19. If he'd got his good stuff working, he won't be in there longer than 6 innings and 100 pitches.
  20. I don't know about that happening, though, I would still say that most likely Vargas stays in the rotation and Gallardo moves to the pen. I think they're going to be extra cautious with him, and the only way he makes it into the rotation is if he forces it by being extremely dominant in the bullpen.
  21. Brantley walked four times today, that gives him seven already in only 23 AB's at Huntsville.
  22. My vent is that Spurling is still on the team. I think after Capuano comes back, that will change. All in all, no big deal today. If it wasn't Nathan in the 9th, I probably would be a little upset that they didn't tack on more runs, but it's pretty miraculous to score on him to begin with.
  23. I think you could put Graffy's play of late in the silver lining thread. He's definitely hitting like he's capable of again.
  24. At least the Crew took to series and the Cubs are getting worked as well. Because of those two things as well as the fact that were able to manage a 5-4 road trip after getting no-hit and blowing a game vs. Texas it's hard to be too upset. Exactly. And we get to watch Yo tomorrow.
