  1. It would seem that the college hitters are being undervalued, at least in Jack Z.'s mind.
  2. It's hilarious that Point cancelled school. I'm about 30 miles north of there, and we haven't even gotten a drop of rain to this point.
  3. I just got home from work and have to say that I am absolutely thrilled with the LaPorta pick.
  4. If the Brewers aquired a loser like Dukes i certainly wouldn't stop being a fan of the team, but i wouldn't cheer for him as a person.I can't respect men who think they are tough by hitting or intimidating females. I'm not advocating acquiring him, by any means. I just think he should have a chance to have his side of the story come out on this a little before he is branded as a terrible human being (as opposed to just being a screw-up). DHonks said earlier in the thread that he is a nice guy and a good teammate, I just say let's hear more facts.
  5. Anything by Charles Bukowski I'm planning on digging into his stuff much more this summer. I have only read Post Office so far, and really thought it was great.
  6. If that was the case, I'm glad that Prince is there, though, and looks like he's ready to put the rookie in his place if he goes too far. He has done the same thing plenty of times, though. He gets that high finish and stares at it and sets the bat down, too, which is pretty much his version of a "bat flip".
  7. Josh Hamilton (another OF prospect from that ill-fated org.) That's a perfect example. If Dukes kept his nose clean for one year, all of a sudden everyone would love him like they do Hamilton. Hamilton was a total trainwreck, but now he's beloved for whatever reason. And Dukes will be a better player than Hamilton.
  8. Just curious. I've been hearing a lot of the Miggy is unmotivated, just in it for the money, refuses to improve, etc. Where is this coming from? I don't know. Isn't it pretty easy to dismiss that thought when he is a top 10 player in the league at 24 years old and improving every year? Sure, he is heavier than when he came into the league, but part of that is just getting bigger from 20-24. If the Brewers were able to get Miguel Cabrera for Rickie Weeks, you'd have to do that in a heartbeat, he's too good to pass up. Trading Braun is pretty much out of the question, though.
  9. Jack Kerouac - "On the Road" As far as I'm concerned, it's the greatest thing I've ever read. The stories are fantastic (and for the most part real-life based), and I love Kerouac's spontaneous prose style of writing. The book also had a huge cultural impact, during a time when people were very straight-laced - many people who have characters in the book based on them went on to have great literal careers themselves, like Ginsberg and William Burroughs.
  10. It's the confidence you develop from working out with guys like A-Rod since you were 19. He's in the bigs and he knows he belongs, which I think is great. Fielder pretty much was the same way - some guys are just born to hit a baseball, and they know it. I am not at all a believer in the "unwritten rules" that a rookie needs to keep his mouth shut, etc. If you're good, you're good, and he is definitely good.
  11. He was a pure signability pick, and then he had off-field stuff right away. This is probably better for him, because he definitely can't hit.
  12. Yeah, just let them out without a weight (though a light screw-in weight can work really well, like a 1/8 oz. - I think Yamamoto says that himself), and use slow methodical moves with it. The beauty of them is that they don't have a consistent movement pattern like a lot of other baits do, which over time bass have come to recognize and stay away from. It has a more natural movement than a regular senko stick does (though it's not a swim bat, per se), so I think that allows it to move through grass and stuff near shore more easily - which is where you can catch a bigger bass.
  13. I like the Gary Yamamotos, the laminated Swimsenkos, especially. You can really hammer the bass with them, near the shores and in shallow areas. Joe Bucher's Pro Finesse are pretty solid in this department, as well.
  14. Johnny Estrada Johnny Estrada Johnny Estrada Johnny Estrada Johnny Estrada Phew, that feels better Oh, yeah. Shouse.
  15. Estrada doesn't make out the lineup card.....jojo the chimp manager does. I know that. Still, it's pretty frustrating to watch him kill rallies. I know it's not his fault he doesn't walk, he doesn't have the mindset to do so, that's fine. I still cannot stand to watch him take an AB. Let him go down and expand the zone hitting 8th. He's kind of a great example of a guy that had numbers better than what he really is. He's a AVG only hitter, and I suppose that looks alright in a box score when he's in Arizona, but the guy hits like it's tee-ball.
  16. Estrada is my least favorite Brewer ever. Seriously.
  17. I'm holding out for the hybrid. Yeah, Penn & Teller taught me they were pretty much bogus, but it's principle.
  18. Silvio's a goner, man. He'll always be remembered for that great head of hair, though. I've never thought the Melfi character was good at all. Lorraine Bracco is such an over-actor. But, last night's performance was pretty good.
  19. If Estrada hits 5th today I am fixing to pitch a fit.
  20. This should definitely be a game where Sheets piles up some K's. I expect double-digit K's and 3 or less runs in 7 IP.
  21. I think Proctor might be having arm troubles. That said, he is a pretty solid reliever (and one that Torre loves) so I don't see them trading him.
  22. Ugh. That is really a shame. I was seriously expecting him to be a September addition to the bullpen. This is probably it for him, now, and definitely as far as being a Brewer.
  23. I agree. Dude can hit. Being in the Sally league at 24 really isn't doing anyone any good.
  24. no good hitting a 2 run hr when you're down 3 I guess that's what I don't get. Why is it no good to hit a 2 run HR? Then Hardy's up and can hit a solo, or even better get on base for Prince to hit a 2 run walk-off. I mean, Graffanino really shouldn't pinch hit before Hall.
  25. As much as he was terrible tonight, sending Capellan down is just a reactionary move. It really isn't justified at all. I'm not a huge fan of the guy, but I think he's probably better than Spurling or Dessens are.
