  1. 'We're playing hard, the ball just couldn't find the ground.' But... that's pretty much exactly what happened.
  2. I couldn't quite hear sports nation's laughter from here until about 60 minutes ago. But why do you really care about that? The fact is that they are still in first place. I guess I won't start seriously worrying until they're not.
  3. If this is rock bottom, I guess I'm glad they hit it with a nice lead in the division. Being no-hit really doesn't make me any more or less bummed than any other loss. It sucks, you move on and play tomorrow night and hope for better things.
  4. Cherish it and savor it. Things will never be the same afterward. You're going to lose touch with people you have been close with for years, in the blink of an eye. It's very odd, even when you vow to "keep in touch, man", but you know in your mind that you won't. It's the end of an era, you'll suddenly be a grown-up. But it's a good thing, enjoy whatever happens next, and congrats.
  5. Yeah, this was a great game. All the exclusive rights deals turned me completely off videogames. In the span of a few months, the best football game (2K series) and the best baseball game (MVP) were taken away. Ever since I just can't go for games anymore. It was like an end of innocence.
  6. Verlander was basically unreal tonight. Even if they didn't get no hit, they sure as hell weren't going to score on him. Good for him, and I will go out and guarantee a better showing by the offense tomorrow night (thank God I'll be out of town and won't have to watch it).
  7. Scott Erickson no-hit the Brewers, as well.
  8. I dig Robert Randolph and the Family Band quite a bit, too. Can't get enough of that sacred steel.
  9. Brettac, you seriously would listen to Zwan over Audioslave? Yeah, Audioslave was a joke. I love Rage, but when you hook up Tom Morello with the garbage "alternative" rock lyrics that Chris Cornell writes, it's horrible. Like I said, Zwan had Matt Sweeney, and he collaborated with one of my favorite artists (Bonnie 'Prince' Billy) on an album that I love ("Superwolf"). Honestly, though, I probably would never listen to either of them ever again. But anything was better than the boring dreck that was Audioslave.
  10. People selling veggie wraps, bead necklaces, and all things hemp while simultaneously wearing designer underwear and leaving the parking lot in daddy's Volvo. Really, I would say this started with the Dead and a little thing called "Touch of Grey". Suddenly, the "jam band" thing was commercial and profitable, and then you had yuppie college students and trust fund babies posing as being heads ("touch heads"). When Jerry died, they just went onto Phish. There were several long-time Deadheads that did the same, though, and I wouldn't knock anyone for doing that.
  11. Put some eye black on, with some high socks and it doesn't matter if you go 0-4, you look good doing it. Story of Scott Podsednik's career, right there.
  12. Yeah, I was talking '70's, peak-era Dead. I refuse to even listen to anything later than '79 shows. I don't want to hear smacked out Jerry, really. I'm fine with tripping balls Jerry, but that's as far as I take it. And with Pigpen. "Lovelight" and "Hard to Handle" - that's what I'm talkin' about. I was basically trying to say what NDOG said - I just didn't feel the soul. I really thought it was too light, not focused enough. Plus, they didn't write lyrics like Robert Hunter or John Barlow did.
  13. Come on, no one who is an enraged rat in a cage is a wussy. And Mudhoney made it big. They were in that Chris Farley movie.
  14. the cat was a reincarnated Ade Oh, dear. That's a reach. People have been looking for her to come back in some capacity, for whatever reason. I don't get it. She was a good character, and she's dead.
  15. I like the Dead. I think Phish is not so good, though. I think they fit the stereotype of jam bands that I had before I started to appreciate the Dead - meaning sloppy stoners. Then I fell in love with the amazing musicianship of Jerry Garcia in particular. I've listened to a few Phish tapes that are considered to be among their best live shows, and I don't feel it. I know that it's unfair to compare them to the Dead, of course.
  16. Let me say, that was a perfect choice for the song in the background in the final scene, whether you liked it or not. And artist... it is in fact a Journey.
  17. I think Parra in the pen in September is a very real possibility. I really hope he's in the mix for a rotation spot, next year, though.
  18. The only Leotardo mentioned in the closing credits is Patty, played by Geraldine Librandi (Phil's wife). By the way, I loved how Phil's being whacked was basically turned into a funny moment when the SUV ran over his head. I actually started laughing (not to sound insane, of course).
  19. Well, that's possibly intriguing. But if I get tickets up front, is it just going to be a stupid mosh pit/shoving match thing? I love Rage, though.
  20. I don't know... I'm not a huge fan of either of these bands. I guess I would call it a tie, and use lead singer bands post break-up to break the tie. In which case the Pumpkins win because of Zwan (and really because of Matt Sweeney being in that band). Audioslave was just terrible. Plus I always liked "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness" a little.
  21. I liked the build up to the ending. I wasn't sure what was going to happen, especially with all the shots of various people that were looking at him. After about 10 seconds of this, though, it was obvious that nothing was going to happen and that all those cutaways were being done to falsely create a sense of excitement that something was about to happen. If you have watched The Sopranos all the way through, how could you not expect loose ends? It's always what's happened, it's a trademark. They let the second to last episode be considerably better than the finale, and that's a huge problem in my eyes. Really, the entire final season, especially part one, was lame (outside of the great Walnuts episode with the cancer/mother stuff).
  22. I can't complain. I think the ending was excellent. It's like you got a glimpse into these people's lives for 6 seasons, and then you don't anymore. Like if you knew someone, and then you just lost touch with them. I think it's kind of cool. Every relationship you have in real life isn't resolved with the death of one of the involved parties.
  23. Well, that was pretty much exactly what I expected. David Chase is the master of unresolved stories.
  24. If you guys are so happy over Hall's performance this season, head over to the silver lining thread. No, Mr. Strawman. And no one has said they're happy about the way he's played. He's been awful. The difference is, some of us think he is a really good player (and his numbers from 2006 and 2006 would seem to back this up), just having a rough start. While others apparently think that he can't hit anymore, or is a flash in the pan - which it's hard to be when you have had two excellent seasons.
  25. Bill Hall is a master thief stealing over 3 mil from the Crew this year. Down right pathetic... The Brewers were master thieves last year, stealing 35 HR and an .898 OPS from Bill Hall for a measly $418,000. How about that? Players get paid for past performance, sad but true. It's silly to call any player a thief. The team was willing to pay him that salary, and he deserves it. He's going to hit.
