  1. This was really great news to see when I got home from work. I really love the DFE, so I'm sad to see it go.
  2. What do strikeouts have to do with getting on base? Well, they don't get you on base as much as groundouts to second base do, that's for sure. At least a true leadoff man is in there again tonight. And his name is Jon Corey Hart. Weeks, Hart, and Gross are all legit leadoff options, so as long as one of them is in that spot, I won't complain.
  3. I don't know how they'd make a film out of the book, but if it could be well done, I'd like to see it. To answer the question, yes, it is a film adaptation of Kerouac. I'm looking forward to it out of curiousity more than anything.
  4. Well, it's going to be nothing but sequels all the time in theatres because people eat them up for whatever reason. I don't think there's been a single trailer I've seen or anything that makes me want to go to the movies this summer. "Crazy Love" looks awesome, but I'm going to have to wait for the DVD. But, hey, "On the Road" is coming in 2009!
  5. That Pirates movie is 5+ hours? You're kidding me.
  6. Thanks, Brad. He's got a much smoother delivery than Rogers, that's for sure.
  7. No. There is no silver lining, we most wallow in how pathetic this team. No more sugar coating things, this team is not a playoff team. We might make it but it's just because the lack of a legit playoff and the division being god awful top to bottom. The whole national league is bad. Doug Melvin won't do anything though, neither will anyone, because winning isn't the number 1 priority of the team. How far do you have to fall to do something? Was this supposed to be in blue? If not, I missed this stuff from years past! That is the silver lining: we get to hear how the team doesn't want to win. The invention of the time machine is definitely a silver lining.
  8. I can't wait. I think I'm going to hit up Minneapolis and/or Chicago, possibly, as well.
  9. To bump this up with some news: www.ticketmaster.com/ryan..._home_4_f1 Pre-order the album via iTunes, get presale concert tickets if you so please (plus some bonus content). And RyDogg - Milwaukee is most definitely on the list now for the fall tour: http://i12.tinypic.com/4v66ico.jpg I would assume that that is going to be that previously scheduled Riverside date being made up.
  10. Yes, there is. Actually, if you purchased SBS, you should be able to put your CD in your computer and access it through Wilco's website (wilcoworld.net). They just put it up there last week. I believe it's supposed to be on iTunes this week, also.
  11. believe it starts again at 11 PM Central. Thanks for the heads-up. I was planning on watching it tonight, then I went to the game on a whim. The beauty of the History Channel is that they replay their new shows ad nauseum for a while.
  12. He has had to go since he got here. Seriously - how can Ned expect to score many runs when you trot out a couple guys with OBP's below .300?
  13. I stood in amazement at the game as Gross wasn't used as a PH for Mench. That was sickening. As far as I'm concerned, I guess you could have pinch hit Gwynn for Mench, let Hart hit, and then PH Gross in the pitcher's spot (as opposed to the double switch that actually happened). A guy like Gross should never be left on the bench, especially with a mediocre RHP on the mound in a one run game. the team lack of overall focus is what stuns me. How does one detect this?
  14. Good point, end, but I can't seem to find anything about Humberto Sanchez this year. Is he hurt, or did he have a name change or something?
  15. Well, that should do it. Man, Suppan was pitching so well Yeah, 6 walks. He was dealing.
  16. I still think Milledge is going to be a star, but I wouldn't trade an established one that the Brewers have under their control for the next four years for him. I mean, if you could trade Kevin Mench and Claudio Vargas or some spare parts deal for him, I'd be all over it.
  17. Villanueva would take that start, without a doubt. I don't think it makes a lot of sense to call up Gallardo for a spot start. I don't think it's an issue, though. I read this morning that Sheets is probably going to start on Tuesday.
  18. He was pretty awesome last season, though. His HR production was down, but after he went to the Yankees last year he hit .330/.419/.507. Prior to that trade, he already had 91 BB in 339 AB. This first month or so is the only time he has struggled in the past year and a half, so I wouldn't be worried about him that much. I think the Brewers theoretically would be acquiring him to hit 1st or 2nd, so there wouldn't be a massive need for him to go on a HR binge (though I think he still can). Heck, he even stole 30 bases last year (for a third year in a row). His all-around skill-set wouldn't make me worry about him turning into Mench. There's so many things that Abreu does well that it's hard for him not to contribute something positive.
  19. Maybe the people whining about TGJ are thinking about giving the wrong guy extended bench time. Yeah, bench the guy that hit 35 HR last year, but play the guy that had a week of good games play more. That's pretty much illogical. Every single player slumps. Even really good ones. Bill Hall is really good, TGJ is nowhere near him. Hall has a two year track record of being good, including being the best player on the team last year. He's not a fluke. As Ned Yost would say (even though this quote is about Bush it's applicable to anyone): "It drives me crazy when you struggle a little bit and people want to start digging graves for them. That's not the way the game is played. It's not what I'm going to do."
  20. Ah that felt good. Oh and he is 3-5 with what a 6.13 ERA? Oh wait, he's the staff ace if you just give him a chance!!!! Yeah, that's what we're saying.http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif Basically Vargas sucks, and more than Bush, and that will eventually make itself very clear.
  21. No, he's not a premium prospect. He's like Gwynn but a little better, since he has had a decent full season in the big leagues, and he's two years younger. But he's pretty much a guy with decent patience, no pop, and above average defense in the corner spots. I wouldn't want him, I think he'd be the 6th best OF on the team right now, better than only Gwynn.
  22. Didn't the Yanks just give up a bunch of low-A prospects for the guy? I would imagine he could be had cheaply if Cashman decides to move him Like I said, they got him on a salary dump, but I don't recall the Yankees really doing that move themselves, especially not with a player of Abreu's caliber.
  23. It's pretty tough to say he sucks when he was so solid last year, though, and his peripherals are still pretty solid this year. I think it's a combination of the bad luck that Ennder mentioned (which you can see in his hit rate) and a dead arm. Vargas is the worst pitcher on the staff, and he's been pretty lucky. Bush is more like the third or fourth best on the staff, just that things aren't really working out for him this season. The Brewers have a pretty healthy lead in what is the worst division in baseball, so they can likely afford to play this out for a while yet. I guess I'm fine with whatever they choose to do on this one, because I think Bush can be a solid reliever, too. But he's already been a decent starter, too.
  24. He'll be in Huntsville by mid-July, and if all goes well there, be in Nashville to open 2008. That is an amazingly fast ascension for a HS pitcher, especially one that was a third rounder.
  25. I don't think it's really bad luck, though. I think he's got a dead arm period happening right now. It seems like his velocity has been down some this year, and without a doubt his location has been poor. He's still throwing strikes, but they're at the belt instead of at the knees. His breaking ball hasn't been sharp, for the most part, either. I think a DL stint might be the best thing for him. I'd be fine either way with Yo or Villanueva in the rotation, and if they deal, Bush returns from the DL to the bullpen.
