  1. Thomas has had just one season that could suggest he has a future. He had it in the big leagues, though, and playing everyday (for half a season) on a team that was pretty good. Closser had a nice 100 AB stretch, and failed miserably when he was supposed to be the starting catcher. There's a reason the guy cleared waivers - he really isn't very good. Same goes for Thomas.
  2. Tim Hudson is another short RHP that has had a lot of success. He's listed at 6'0", but there's no way he is.
  3. I had Closser pegged as next season's back-up catcher. He still could be, I suppose. He's going to be a minor league FA again after the season.
  4. First we take Manhattan But seriously, though, mighty "Dress Rehearsal Rag" is good as it gets.
  5. Edgar is now back. Dumb as a bag of hammers. Brilliant metaphor. Does listening to Cohen for pregame music inspire some good play? I don't really know. But, great "Songs of Love and Hate". Is no doubt genius.
  6. Wouldn't that tick you off a little bit and perhaps gum up future trading opportunities? Just curious. Nah. It's something that happens pretty often. The Brewers did it a couple years ago with Pat Borders, too. There is an "old boys network" among GM's, I'm sure, too. Like you know Sandy Alderson is going to try and help out Beane if he can without hurting the Padres. But (like you said) it's a favor to players, also. Rather than stand in the way of Closser's opportunity to get back to MLB, they traded him to a team where he has a chance.
  7. If Lou were to go up to AAA, that would be one of the best prospect rebounds I have ever seen.
  8. The Charles Thomas star has faded quickly after he had that sweet (as far as backup OF's go) .288/.368/.445 season.
  9. Good thing I checked here before posting it in the MLB forum. He's definitely the pitcher whose call-up I have been anticipating the most.
  10. Just move on, you say? With Russ, it's not that easy. I will never forget.
  11. Ooooh. Built to Spill might be worth going down to see.
  12. I think he is still getting lots of groundballs, so he's probably hitting his spots pretty well. My hope for him was that he would get his K rate back to the level it was pre-injury. If (big if) he does that, I don't see any reason why he shouldn't just stay a starter.
  13. If it's 4-0, go to Spurling or Dessens, as far as I'm concerned. A pitcher has to be really bad to blow a 4 run lead. I'm not being spolied and out of control... I'd moan about this if they won 65 games. I have, actually.
  14. The same people who wanted a change would complain if sprurling came in so its lose-lose for yost there. Yet, he created it by wasting Wise yesterday. If he didn't do that, it would be Wise/Turnbow/Cordero and turn out the lights.
  15. This is why Matt Wise shouldn't have thrown 2 innings yesterday.
  16. Why does Estrada swing at the first pitch every freaking AB? Sickening.
  17. I'm as big of a Will Inman fan as there is. However, holding onto high A pitching prospects shouldn't really be a hard and fast rule. That's a long ways away from the big leagues. I guess I'm not sure that I'd trade him for Harden, though. The Brewers would have to be pretty certain that he was completely healhy... but why would the A's trade a completely healty Rich Harden?
  18. The Indians aren't falling out of contention.
  19. That was about as hard as you can hit a baseball.
  20. The Phil Hughes hype machine is about to crank into full force.
