  1. And those things have no effect on the game? Sure they do, just not in a provable/meaningful/significant kind of way.
  2. Pretty much throw the ball, catch the ball, hit the ball. and be tough, once someone figures out just exactly what that is. I think the Brewers have been mentally tough in about 48.7% of their games so far, well below the "toughness rate" of the Cardinals, 64%. Talent doesn't figure into these numbers, it's all about toughness.
  3. I will wholeheartedly disagree with that statement. And I will wholeheartedly disagree with yours, until you offer proof aside from a "this happened for me, so it's always the case" argument. Show me an example of a player who was an undisciplined hitter when entering MLB, and became a guy who walked. I'll show you an exception to the rule.
  4. But, how do you prove these things? You are trying to psychoanalyze from a very far distance, and no real understanding of the situation. Burnett seems like a pretty stable guy to me - solid K rate, great stuff, groundball pitcher, etc. Give me things that actually win baseball games, and are proven to do so, over something that could possibly be completely untrue, like your perception of a player's "makeup".
  5. Of course there isn't, but there are some (OBP, SLG, OPS) that tell you more than others (AVG).
  6. Average is important because it tells you how often the OBP is a result of a hit. It still only tells you how often a player reached first base with a hit, which really is irrelevant. All that matters is that he got there and didn't make an out.
  7. BA should be considered very important as it is a factor in both OBP and SLG. But what does it tell you that the others don't? Both OBP and SLG are more telling/important than AVG, since they expound on it - even if they aren't added to make OPS.
  8. RBI have got to be #1, followed by BA.
  9. 2. The Crew didn't think to get anyone better than Magruder over the offseason. They could just as easily get someone now, from somebody else for cash like they got Branyan last year. I said this for quite a while before, but why not Ben Grieve - the guy can hit and get on base. Those things are foreign to Magruder. They could easily get someone comparable for a few grand, yet they don't.
  10. Gotcha. But he would have been putting the game in Clark's hands as well, which I wouldn't feel that confident with. Chances are he hacks at the first pitch and makes an out anyway. I can't stand Yost, but I can't blame him today for keeping Sheets in. Maybe I wouldn't have bunted, but I would have left him in.
  11. yost put the game in magruder's hand again. No he didn't, Clark getting hurt did. Who would you recommend play CF?
  12. Not more of this "they don't care stuff". Quit trying to psychoanalyze. The Brewers played quite poorly in every game, the Cardinals played well. That's just how it goes. These three games symbolize nothing to me about the direction of the team, just that they can get better. Save the chastising for later, HOFFY.
  13. Ok, your Mark. You pay 40+ million in salary for this. What do you do? Continue to pay them? That'd be my guess. They lost three games. You realize that, as a successful businessman, you made a good investment, as you are getting .500 ball and decent attendance from a $40 million payroll. Ok, your a fan. You pay $40 bucks to watch this. What do you do? Continue to watch games, and hope they win them.
  14. They outplayed the Brewers. There's no shame in it. It can happen to anybody - it's happened to the Cardinals. It's ridiculous to say "how can the players stand it?", or "they got psyched out". Those are unprovable contentions.
  15. Why is Hall consistantly stealing playing time over Branyan at 3B? Hall is not a 3B, defensively or offensively. Because there's such a thing as too much of a good thing? I mean, who can stand staring at that lineup card and seeing a .900 OPS penciled into the lineup every single day? And good defense? It's too much to handle!
  16. Those lineups weren't that weak. Any lineup that has the names "Edmonds" and "Pujols" in it are tough to deem as weak. Reyes is a stud prospect for a reason - he's good. Suppan always kills the Brewers, I was expecting to lose this one. I wouldn't say they were "psyched" out - they were "talented" out.
  17. It's an average team. They are going to win roughly as many as they lose. However, when they start to lose less for a few weeks, it gets tough to take the losses.
  18. You're arguing over 11 measly AB's? What's the point?
  19. Morris has been terrible and there will be plenty more chances. Hey hey hey.
  20. I think Branyan has a higher chance of success than Magruder. He should be in the lineup every day and not even be an option to pinch hit. Read early in the game thread, I came to Branyan's defense - he's my favorite Brewer. I just don't think an AB in the 4th is that important. Morris has been terrible and there will be plenty more chances.
  21. I think everyone would be better off if they didn't worry about the Wild Card. I don't think it will be an issue by 5:00 Wednesday.
  22. He hit Magruder because the game isn't on the line in the 4th inning. In my estimation, the only real "mistake" he made was bringing the IF in in the top of the 4th. It rarely, if ever, makes sense - especially that early in a game.
  23. New Rule: Quit bringing the infield in in the 4th freakin' inning!
  24. He's not a winner. Of course, I forgot all about that! That explains it. Maybe Scott Brosius can come out of retirement. Jeff Brantley, you make my heart vomit. EDIT: If you have DirecTV or Dish, you can watch the game on ESPN. At least I can in Northcentral WI.
  25. I'd imagine you could put them in your pocket and go in with them.
