  1. Back in the day I remember Counsell being in the "thank you" section of the Baseball Prospectus annuals for a couple years. My guess is that he has been wanting to be in a front office for a while.
  2. Well, now he's just "fined, but not expected to play" instead.
  3. I think the talk is that he wants to be as close to Mississippi as possible, so StL makes much more sense than the Brewers, outside of the obvious problem of the finances.
  4. The greatest WWF Flair promo, featuring two of my other favorites in Perfect and Heenan. Plus, Mean Gene rules.
  5. Henry is really the only heel on the whole roster that is over aside from Johnny Ace. I think it won't be too long before the fans turn him because he is so awesome. On the topic of Ace, I hope they don't do him vs Punk for quite a while. That feud has huge potential if they let it simmer for a while. It seems they are setting up a Vince/Austin style of feud with it, and that should work because they are both very good in their roles. I don't want Orton to win the Rumble, either. I want Ziggler to. Hopefully he puts on a solid showing vs Punk without too much help from Laurinitis and then has the big-time showing in the Rumble and wins it. It's time for the Spring of Ziggler.
  6. Allen has legit power and patience. He mashed in the Southern League and the Carolina League, too.
  7. I didn't like 27 that much, either. I wasn't as huge of a fan of Taker/HHH as some are. The main event kind of sucked and was rushed. As far as the Rumble, I could see Orton winning it now like was originally planned before his injury and then facing Henry, I imagine. Maybe an outside chance that Bryan still has it by then. Wade Barrett needs to go far away. That's as dead of a heel as I have seen in a while.
  8. I definitely agree that winning puts butts in the seats, not players. We all cheer for laundry to begin with.
  9. I think that is the reasoning they used, right or wrong. Felix is a draw.
  10. Well, I'm going to watch Mania 25 and 26 tonight. I do look forward to the Michaels/Taker matches. Do I also get to see heel Orton? No spoilers (obviously I know Taker wins), since I have never seen these and I like to look at them with fresh eyes. The MITB from 25 was a total botchfest... Shelton Benjamin was just dangerous. Speaking of botchfest: divas battle royale. Yikes. How did Taker not die from that plancha? My god. As a whole, I did not care for 25 all that much. What a dead crowd for HHH/Orton. And of course HHH had to go over. Can't stand him.
  11. Killer Horsemen promo. Arn is such a badass, and Flair is Flair. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7OhNcyByYA
  12. It is crazy how long Kane has been around. I have not seen the 2001 Rumble, so maybe I will check that out, since I love that year's Mania so much.
  13. Yeah, I did see some of the later Shawn matches. I thought the comeback street fight match he did with HHH at Summerslam was pretty incredible, and I rarely enjoy HHH matches. I don't think I have seen those Taker matches, so I should check those out. He and Flair are sort of apples and oranges, since Flair wasn't doing moonsaults or any top rope stuff or anything like that. Flair's prime was really in the '80s, as opposed to the Monday Night War era when Shawn was on top for the first time. There are a couple Flair DVD sets that the WWE put out, plus a Four Horsemen one. I think the one that is probably better is The Ultimate Ric Flair Collection since it has more of his '80s stuff against Steamboat on it. Those matches were completely awesome, so were the matches he did with Terry Funk around the same time. It also has the '92 Rumble on it, which is my personal favorite Rumble match.
  14. Sort of related... The A's are supposedly shopping Brandon Allen, and have contacted the Brewers, among a bunch of other teams, according to Jerry Crasnick: http://www.mlbtraderumors...pping-brandon-allen.html He's been a beast in AAA, but has pretty much had the Gamel treatment in the bigs to this point. I doubt they will try to get him, but he's more realistic than Trumbo.
  15. I don't think Michaels made his opponents look good like Flair did. Nor did he carry them to 60 minute draws all the time and make stars out of them. Michaels wouldn't job to anyone who wasn't his buddy, while Flair was all about the business. Michaels was a good worker, but I'm not a fan of those aspects of his career. I liked the match they did together for the Flair retirement angle, though.
  16. I prefer when he was in NWA/WCW. This is my favorite: "Why don't you get a Mercedes-Benz and be a real man?!" He's the greatest the business has ever known, and he always will be. Whether it's in the ring or on the mic, no one will ever approach him.
  17. Watching this really just again pounds home how bad the commentary in general is now. JR is absolutely awesome in the Cena/Umaga match. Umaga was really good for a big dude. Also, I would still want to watch Flair say "woo" when he's 80.
  18. For how strapped for cash they are, and Oswalt's back issues, I would think they'd stick with the guys like Wolf and Narveson.
  19. I'm watching the '07 Rumble at the moment. Bradshaw is what a heel commentator should sound like. Killer work. I couldn't stand him as a wrestler, because he really needed a Manssiere, and I hated the JBL gimmick, but as the heel commentator (especially in Batista vs Kennedy) he was awesome. I wasn't watching the product at the time, so this is the first I have ever heard him do it.
  20. They already have Izturis, though, who is better defensively and can play 2B, SS, and 3B.
  21. Yup.Double yup. He loves it with the Brewers, and I bet he'd sign a minor league deal again.
  22. I would imagine we'll get a resolution on this now that Darvish will be a Ranger.
  23. I'd read that book.
