  1. Can Mota be sent down ala Turnbow? What are the waivers issues he would have to get through? Anybody know? I can see this reclamation project going the way Turnbow's did...poor mechanics, exacerbated by fragile psyche...mix in the pressure from a team in the pennant chase and some serious booing from the home fans = very limited chance of success. The whole team has looked tight since the CC trade...but Mota takes it to a whole other level.
  2. Mota is very frustrating. He really has great stuff, but he seems to be a head case. He had bad luck in AZ with two little seeing eye grounders, yet walks the guy in between. Last night he sails at the beginning, then gets a little adversity (and certainly no help from the crappy defense) and proceeds to launch some meat balls down the middle of the plate. Maybe some of the magic water in Nashville could help him get his head and mechanics in order...but he has such a fragile mindset, I'm not sure you ever get enough confidence to throw him out there in the middle of the pennant chase. The pressure is only going to increase as the season goes on. Reluctantly, I would say it's time to DFA.
  3. The Cuzzi, Lane crew is the one I can't stand. It's like they actively start going after players and teams. They are a horrible crew and would all be canned if it wasn't for the umps union. This crew has been a little inconsistent behind the plate during the series. Tight or loose...just be consistent. The Weeks call at second was tough the other night. It was tough to tell on TV whether Rickie had the ball in contact with his glove hand or not. I thought he was out, but the TV view was not conclusive. In that case I'll default to the ump...he was in the correct and best position to see it.
  4. Not even shown on Brewers website...any confirmation here?
  5. It's a 4 game series...way to make us look good. My guess is Sabathia & Sheets in the first two games, although Sheets could slip to Wednesday if he pitches 3 innings in the all-star game and his first start after gets pushed to Sunday. They'd probably rather have them go 1/2 since that gives Sheets a start versus St. Louis as well. I'd also guess its Parra in game three.
  6. Gagne has looked sharp in his last three outings. I like him in the 8th with Torres as the closer, simply because if Gagne or Mota or whomever gets in trouble in the 8th, Torres can be brought in early to shut things down. His ability to go 1+ innings makes him especially valuable when the guys in front of him are a little shaky. I also believe our best pitchers should not be limited to specific innings, but rather the highest leverage situation..whether it's getting a starter out of a jam in the 7th or shutting things down in the ninth. If we had a one run lead in the 7th with two outs and runners at the corners with a gassed starter...why not send out Torres even if he is your closer?
  7. Dude...we are both a Southwest Airlines flight from Vegas...I can be there in 2 hours!!!
  8. Note to CC...when you've got two strikes on them and the crowd is on their feet going bananas...drop that nasty changeup.
  9. It's tough for me to see the Cubs not making the playoffs. Maybe they even factored in Harden going on the DL for awhile and getting ready for the playoffs. Maybe it was more about playoff series matchups with the Brewers, Phillies or D-backs that put them over the edge.
  10. I really wonder what the Brewers scouts think of this one. My guess is they were watching Harden. If he's healthy...they have answered the CC trade for less. If not...all of their snide comments about Sheets will come back to haunt them. Part of me thinks they got great value...another part of me thinks they just did the '07 Linebrink trade.
  11. I thought we should have traded Ben Sheets after the Boston series...for Matt LaPorta and three friends. I love that Prince Fielder is a vegetarian. I've hated the Cubs ever since they became that cool other team to watch during summer afternoons from a bar in Madison during college...I couldn't stand it that my friends started to like them more than the Brewers. It was as bad as being in elementary school and having everyone love Marquette...and being the lone Wisconsin basketball fan.
  12. I haven't seen a sweet one year smile like that in Wisconsin since Desmond Howard...man are my expectations way too high right now...and I love it!!! GO CC!!!
  13. I cringe everytime I hear booing at Miller Park (unless directed at Gary Sheffield). We have a lot of great fans, but far too many lame and drunk ones that I am embarrassed about. I also love Bud Selig, I can't understand why Darell Bevell didn't make the NFL and have seen the movie Hoosiers over 100 times and would watch it again if it was on TV tonight.
  14. Let's face it Pedro...we are all conditioned to believe it won't happen...it's a natural feeling for any Wisconsin sports fan. I never believed the Badgers would win a Rose Bowl and I sure never thought the Pack could win a Super Bowl either. For now, I'm just glad the team has put themselves in this position. For so many years it wasn't just that the Brewers lost, it's that the situation was hopeless. We may not win, but we do have hope. As for Uke...I don't hear him as often as you guys back in Milwaukee so the sentimentality of hearing his voice and jokes makes up for barely cobbling together an idea of what is actually happening in the game.
  15. I hear you brother...that was such a bittersweet WS watching the Blue Jays repeat with Molitor after barely losing the division to them the year before. I was so happy for him, but so sad it wasn't as a Brewer. At least the Indians will be getting something...a big something in return. When Molitor left...we got a decade of decay. The Indians with LaPorta and maybe Green or Brantley will be getting at least two legit future major league regulars. This is a very good trade for them. I'm a big fan of Cleveland as a city and the Indians...I've always felt they were kind of our soul sisters in the AL. I hope we win it all this year...and they get their shot down the line as well.
  16. I'm with series on this one. No way is this good news. Sure, it may be expedient with all the CC euphoria here, but we need Soup. The guy was terrific at the start of the season. He has been off the last 4 starts. The guy is a proven money player down the stretch and in the post-season. I sure hope its just a little extra rest he needs and not something more serious...you just never know with pitchers. I sure want Soup in that rotation come September...or sooner. At the time we acquired Suppan, we paid the market price for a pitcher of that caliber. The guy has been completely on target with his performance since he arrived in Milwaukee...I can't understand why he is such a lightning rod with some fans.
  17. I firmly believe that all of 3TO's long distance records may fall by year end.
  18. The Indians are smarting because they thought they would be in our shoes at the beginning of the season, but they got a ton of great value for CC. This could work out great for us...and should for them too...and that...
  19. Most of the Cubs fans aren't that concerned with the trade and they may be right. If the Cubs keep taking care of their own business, they will likely make the playoffs. If the Brewers have improved enough to take the division, it's hard for me to believe the Cubs would fall far enough to be out of the Wild Card. The added home games at the beginning of the season may have skewed their record a little above average, but they are certainly tracking for a 90+ win season...that will get them to October. For the Wild Card contenders...this trade makes a bigger difference. The Cards have been amazingly resilient, the Marlins are young and talented and I still think we hear from the Mets/Phillies before this is over. A couple extra wins for the Crew here makes a big difference. If we are fortunate to get that far...CC/Sheets/Parra makes an awfully compelling rotation in the postseason. I'm pumped. It's a big price, but at some point going for it makes sense.
  20. Open question...was Melvin/Gord/Jack Z's decision to keep not only LaPorta, but the entire gang of bats in Huntsville a stroke of genius? Hitter's park, stacked lineup...huge production. A number of these guys would be at AAA in any other organization. Would LaPorta and crew look as good if they were in AAA this year? Just thinking...
  21. A39...if I could throw faster than 65...you'd be my agent, but I'm guessing bald, fat middle age dudes aren't your bread and butter. Thanks for all the info...you get my Agent of the Day award.
  22. Thanks for the link TLB...I was on the wrong page thinking they hadn't noticed or didn't care. Some real classics in there. I love the 28 page "Milwaukee Journal-Star" thread...just shows the lack of respect Chicago has for their "little brother to the north". They seem to share this opinion just because of Gagne's struggles that our bullpen is horrible. Granted, it's not our strongest point, but they've gotten some solid performances from guys like Torres. They could use some help as well. It seems 08 Marmol < 07 Marmol.
  23. That's gotta be good news...LaPorta must be the only one of the Huntsville 5 going???
