  1. Strange that they quote TH...but there is nothing on the website saying we get 2 back. Am I missing something?
  2. Don't wake them up over there...they haven't noticed us sneaking up on them yet. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  3. While there is added revenue, there is also added expense. CC will run us about $5mm for the rest of the year. I'm still all for it...just want to be balanced.
  4. darn it, I knew I'd screw something up. Figures, it's the one trade that I didn't look up for accuracy sake. Just shows you pitch how long it's been...and how sweet today is!!!
  5. In, '82 the Brewers added some other players as well...they grabbed Doc Medich to start down the stretch. Maybe they aren't done.
  6. It not only improves our chances of getting to the playoffs...but it really improves our chances of doing something once we get there. The other team will have to beat either CC or Sheets...not bad. We've got Counsell too...we're starting to look like those '01 D-backs.
  7. When CC gets a taste of that first brat...he just might sign that hometown discount contract...then again, let's just enjoy the ride!!!
  8. Who knows which side the leaks have been coming from? I sure don't. If Philips is to be believed (a stretch given his limited credibility), maybe the Indians were the ones leaking LaPorta, Green & Cain to 1) set the bar high for other teams or 2) make sure the Brewers know it will take LaPorta. Maybe Melvin didn't even offer LaPorta to begin with and Shapiro is trying to force DM's hand. I give this scenario low probability, but what the heck, we're all speculating anyways. Kruk all over the crew today...Hardy & Soup his guys to watch today...if we lose, I blame him!!! As an aside...I love Alando Tucker!!!
  9. Don't give in Doug...LaPorta, Green and Cain is more than enough. If they don't go for that, let's focus on Wolf or Cain. We can probably hang on to LaPorta as well.
  10. No doubt, with little chance of signing Sheets or CC after this season...we should give Jack Z and his staff a nice raise to make sure they are in charge of those 5 early picks next year!!! I also agree with one of the earlier posters...the kick to the trade is not only a better shot of making the playoffs, but a real shot of going somewhere once you get there. Maybe CC & Sheeter could be our version of Schilling & Randy Johnson.
  11. OK, I've taken a deep breath. First, you can't pin this on Ned. Second, you can't pitch Gagne two straight innings in his first trip off the DL, especially when he was shaky before...and at Nashville. This was probably a good note to end on for him. Third, at some point this was bound to happen...as brutal as it was and 6 runs with no outs...it was the first real failure by Shouse & Torres and they didn't exactly step into an easy situation. Fourth, Mota will be gone soon. This outing sealed his fate...the Brewers brass is not messing around this year, and a few of the guys at Nashville have pitched much better than he has when called upon. When you can no longer trust a guy with a 5 run lead, he just doesn't deserve a spot on the roster. Fifth, 5-5 on the roadtrip is very solid. We've got no more 3 series roadies until September, we've got 10 at home until the break, we've got Sheets on the mound tomorrow and Lincecum on the hill against the Cubs tonight. This too shall pass...it was a stomach punch, but 30 hours from now hopefully we're discussing another 2 dongs from JJ and a three hit shutout from Sheeter. Movin' on...
  12. Could any of these be more than a one year rental? If we don't resign Sheets, it would be nice to have an additional starter for 2009 too.
  13. I wouldn't be surprised if the Brewers gave them three lists - pick one each from Groups A, B and C. If the Brewers did give them this list and it did not include LaPorta, Gamel or Jeffress...how would it look versus an offer that the Cubs would put together? While the Cubs, etc. certainly have more financial resources, I don't think that matters here. It's all about the prospects. If, as an example our #4, #8 & #15 prospect could get this done...does it look better than the Cubs throwing out their #1, #4 & #8 prospect? It seems our farm system is well ahead of our immediate competition...but by how much?
  14. Do you really expect Kendall to miss any time in 2019?
  15. 16-11. I'm hoping they really exceed that run in the last homestand before the break. That's our best chance to pick up some ground on the Cubs & Cards. I really like that we have no more 3 series road trips until September...we just have to get through the next three games. I'm hoping for 2/3, and we really need to make sure we get at least one.
  16. I still remember sitting in the bleachers at County Stadium and booing Reggie Jackson. How about when he charged Mike Caldwell from first...then Iron Mike breaks his bat on the ground...I had that picture up in my room for years. It was much tougher to hate the Red Sox or the O's...although Earl Weaver made for a good villian. The only thoughts I ever had about teams in the AL West were wishing we could be in the division so we could go to the playoffs more often. I could care less about playing the White Sox...let them have their little Chicago moment...who really cares? The money we save on added security at the games could be used to help the bullpen.
  17. Growing up as an AL Brewer fan, I never really viewed either the Sox or the Twins as a huge rival. Frankly, I still don't. Granted, there used to be a lot of fights at County Stadium when the Sox came to town...and there are plenty of Twins fans that come down to Miller Park, but we've never really had a series of major significance against either team. Heck, the Sox became a decent draw in the 66-69 years that may have helped Bud win the Pilots and bring baseball back to Milwaukee (after the Cubs supported carpet-baggers stole the Braves). When we were decent, we were in the AL East...it was the Yankees, Red Sox and Orioles in the late 70s/early 80s, then the Tigers and Blue Jays in the 87-92 range. Now that we're in the NL, we've got a good rivalry versus the Cubs and Cards (although I'm sure they view us as the third wheel in that one). While it's a fun series versus the Twins with the other team's fans making plenty of noise in the road parks...I don't spend a single minute thinking about them after the series is over. On the other hand, I am completely obsessed rooting for the Brewers and whoever is playing the Cubs...now that's a true rival.
  18. All you need to know why we hate both teams ;-)
  19. At least Cain goes tomorrow with Lincecum on Thursday. Zito had a decent outing last time out...maybe he can keep it up. Cards miss Santana in their series...ughh. We get Webb on Thursday and have no Sheets versus Arizona. Gotta somehow win 2 of next 3 (although Manny has been tough lately too).
  20. He's my brother so I felt I could get away with it. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif I mean, c'mon. He's 31 and wearing a full uniform including turf shoes. It's bad enough to bring your glove to the game once you are over 12. I saw the interview on FSN yesterday. When I saw the headline calling him a "dork" I was going to rush to his defense (not knowing it was your bro)...being a Brewer-loving dork myself!!!
  21. Is he interested in going to Vegas? This guy is a walking rabbit's foot.
  22. Until 2012, no one will replace Prince.
  23. Right on TLB. Melvin had two things he was looking for in the bullpen...a better & deeper arsenal of set-up men (to keep away from the overuse problem of 2007) and a replacement for Cordero (after failing to re-sign him). We may have entered the year without a top flight guy like Coco, but this bullpen is much deeper. Granted, a guy or two were likely not to pan out...maybe it's Gagne, but he had many more "shots on goal" including Torres who could arguably be the team MVP right now. Gagne and his contract will be gone in 2009. Whether this works out or not in the second half, I applaud Melvin for taking the lower risk shot and for deepening the bullpen.
