  1. Kottaras is off to a nice TTO start this year. 17 PAs...5 BB, 4 K, 3 HR.
  2. It was a terrific bunt, but not enough to overcome his lack of speed or JHJ's superb barehanded pickup. Can't fault him...it was bang bang.
  3. Good to get through that first lefty for Kam...just righties here.
  4. He's been bad...you really have to wonder if it's the sickness or just the hangover from the off season...either way I thought he might get the day off today. He'll be fine. He's still the man.
  5. Anyone at the game want to comment on the reception JHJ got at the game? I only had the LA feed out here and they came back quick from commercial break.
  6. Summing up the last play...our MVP puts up a weak pop up to the MVP runner up and gold glover who misplays the catch and throws weakly to the plate where our pinch runner goes through a stop sign and flops weirdly upon the plate in such an awkward manner it confused the ump into blowing the call. As beautiful of a game as last night was, that was some awful baseball tonight on that last play. At least we won.
  7. crewcrazy suggested last night that Kottaras is Greek for "walkoff." It could also be for "clutch." If I look at my trail of text messages to all my Dodger buddies last night...Kottaras has many meanings in Greek!
  8. Huge DP by Kam...he's good against those righties. We ready for a George-bomb?
  9. If Loney was on the Brewers there would be pages upon pages griping about the guy...he is just awful.
  10. What about bringing another Catcher up to replace Ishikawa? They've been comfortable the last couple games bringing Kottaras in before Ish as a PH...maybe they'd be even more comfortable if they had the emergency Catcher. George can probably play first as well and they are pretty well set in the OF. Just a thought.
  11. Inducted into the National Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame at their convention in Las Vegas. Nice honor, it's a significant organization.
  12. I wouldn't lock up Gamel for an extended period. I like him at his cost controlled price, but he's also a guy with a checkered work ethic in the minors. I like that he's found his motivation this year, but I'd be worried putting a bunch of dough in his pocket would lose his focus. He'd also be replaceable at the levels they'd need to pay him in his FA years.
  13. I'd love to see a statue of the Ignitor at Miller Park. I'd also like to see the somewhat frosty relationship a little tighter between Paulie and the organization, but that also seems a bit of a two way street. I would take somewhat of an exception to not putting Hank Aaron's legacy in Milwaukee in the same league as Selig and Yount. Hank Aaron was the single greatest player to ever wear a Milwaukee baseball uniform and is in the discussion for greatest player in the history of the game. He was an MVP, that also led Milwaukee to it's only World Championship. Leaving Milwaukee wasn't his decision, and at the end of his career he came back to the city which lent some important credibility to a struggling to emerge franchise. He also worked hard along with Bud to bring Miller Park to Milwaukee. I won't even go into his work in the civil rights movement. Hank Aaron is a truly great man and a transcendent figure in Milwaukee baseball history. Of course, you should take whatever I say with a grain of salt...I think Jerry Augustine deserves a statue outside Miller Park...perhaps to match the one I have built in my yard.
  14. I'd keep it going as long as they can stay competitive. Granted, you don't want to see them wind up like the Cubs where they are burdened by a bunch of bad contracts, but they are close enough to be in the mix for the next few years. The most likely scenario is they sign guys like Doug Davis and Braden Looper and muddle around .500, but maybe they catch one that works while they wait for the pitching to develop. They have enough shots on goal to get a couple decent starters out of that group. Rebuilding by blowing up the roster is going to be a struggle for this team. There isn't a single impact bat in the system. This from a system that produced Fielder, Braun, Weeks, Hart, Hardy & Lawrie...there isn't one player anywhere close to those guys. I'd keep it going and see what they can come up with over the next couple years in the draft. The system has to get better, it can't get much worse.
  15. When you hear stories like Davey Nelson shared before the game and the inspiration Jackie Robinson provided, you realize this day needs to be celebrated and remembered. It may have been baseball's most valuable contribution to American society, and a reversal of it's greatest injustice. Over the top is fine with me, I'm all for it.
  16. Couple of tough moral victories the last 2 nights...hang with 'em. Gotta make them pay this year for pitching around Braunie.
  17. Extending Greinke is the key to keeping the window open past this year...this is not good at all.
  18. I like his voice and baseball knowledge. He knows his stuff. He does need to loosen up a little and join in the banter with Uecker. Provus & Powell were great at that. Uecker is delivering some great jokes and they are sailing right over Block's head.
  19. Interesting article in the NY Times Dealbook by Aaron Sorkin (of Too Big to Fail fame) on the Guggenheim group behind the Dodgers purchase. I have a feeling there will be more scrutiny like this on them. Even on Wall St., few are really familiar with them... http://dealbook.nytimes.com/2012/04/09/a-costly-toy-subsidized-by-others/?nl=business&emc=edit_dlbkam_20120410
  20. Cards already have 3 bombs in the 1st...I hope they cool down by the 27th.
