  1. Well I dove in and increased my limit on my Best Buy card! It was stressful! Bought a 4k Sony Bravia and a Sonos Sound Bar. I hope to someday add the sub and surround speakers. I'm super happy with it so far!!! The picture on a Blu Ray is out of this world. Really really love it. I then bought a receiver for up stairs, a front speaker to go with the built ins. Seems pretty good so far. Nothing crazy, just basic, but I'm really happy to finally have my turntable hooked up to real speakers. Thank you Best Buy for 24 months of free money!!
  2. Yup. We met in library school, which is as dorky as it sounds. This is amazing!
  3. Ok guys, sorry to go two topics in this one, but we are kind of talking about it and thought it would maybe be better to keep it all in one. Need advice on speakers/receiver/ wireless systems. I have four speakers built in upstairs. I want to add a receiver so those become live, along with a front speaker. This is in the living room, so probably won't do a sub. I want to buy a wireless Sonos adapter (I believe I was told this would work) so that I can play music from my phone. I then want to do a sonos wireless system in the basement with the new TV I'm looking for. I believe that I can then play the same music both upstairs and down over one device. Is this correct? Any feedback on Sonos?
  4. Pretty much in the same boat here. I rarely ever use any smart features. I usually use my apple tv and iPad to do everything I can do on my tv. I always wonder about cheaper tvs that are really close. The problem I find is that they are usually quirky and do tend to have more small issues pop up. My buddy bought a Vizzio 6 months ago and is already having issues with it. I would be really upset if that happened to me. I can't say one bad thing about my Sony Bravia so It's making me lean that way. I do think Samsung and Panasonic would be in the same boat.
  5. You could put a section titled something like "various temporary work" with the date you've been working those. Maybe below put specifics upon request. This way you are showing that you worked but that you were not job hopping.
  6. Movies and sports. 10-15 feet away.
  7. Might dive in on a new TV here soon and I'm feeling overwhelmed with what to buy. I think I've narrowed down to Sony or Samsung, but that is about it. I'd be open to another brand, maybe a cheaper company, if the picture and reliability is similar, but it worries me a bit. My main questions are on LCD or plasma and do I invest in 4k def? This will be our biggest tv so I don't want to have to buy anything again for awhile. Anyone have any insight on what to look for and if 4k will be relevant sooner than later? Thanks!
  8. Sorry but I haven't watched a game this year, pretty much just read what is on this thread and watch highlights. Do you think they are not playing some of these guys because they want their record to be bad? Be bad this year, let young guys learn, get a high draft pick, win for a long time..... Just a thought with nothing to really base it off.
  9. I'm curious what the majority of people listen to on their way to and from work and during work (if possible). In the past I had jumped around quite a bit but I'm now all ESPN radio. For the record, I rarely watch anything on ESPN, except the sporting events and college gameday. I think their radio hosts are some of the best. Mike and Mike can be a little shticky at times, but when they are talking sports, they are pretty solid. I bet I will get a lot of push back on this, but I love Cowherd! He fires me up at times but that's his thing. I think he's hilarious and also pretty spot on with most of his stuff. I also think he's extremely talented. To be on, by himself, every day, is amazing. Then I go to SVP and Russillo. I believe their show is the best. I think it could be in my sweet spot because of all the references they make to things from their (my) generation. Some of the stuff they say and do, absolutely makes me laugh out loud. I also like how straight forward they are and that they aren't afraid to call people out. I then listen to the local Minneapolis radio show with Dan Barreiro. I listened to him when I lived in Minneapolis and continued to listen to him a fair amount as I moved around for 3.5 years. Now that I'm moving back to Minneapolis, I look forward to listening to him on a regular basis.
  10. Yes it's their way to motivate people from jumping around from job to job. It's very normal.
  11. "When you say you had your 401k vested with my former employer," are you meaning invested? If your 401k is vested, that means you own all the money in there. If you are not vested, that means that the employer still has rights to the money they put in. Depending on what their terms are, they can take money back that they put in. Five years is a long time though, so that seems questionable. That said, if they state that in their benefits package, then they will follow through on it. How long were you there? Also, I would make sure that if you are laid off if they still have that right. I thought that most vesting schedules were setup only for when an employee quits. Make sure you read the fine print and I can probably help you out.
  12. Agreed. That was my biggest issue when I started grocery shopping at Target. I learned to pick and choose what was good and what wasn't. There meat department is actually really really good. Check it out. I feel that your best bet is to use a place like Target to get your packaged goods and anything that looks good. Then grocery stores for produce. Of course this adds to the amount of trips you have to make. I love food and love to cook, so to me, this is not an issue.
  13. I think it's hard to compare a dynasty from present time to ones before free agency. Dynasties just look so different now. It's not the same guys every year. What SF has pulled off is amazing and I think it's a dynasty. I think it's much harder to do what they've done in present time. Also, I don't think the definition of a dynasty has anything to do with how popular a team is or how much attention they draw. That's something totally different.
  14. Amazing playoffs and World Series this year. Great stuff and unreal performance by Madison.
  15. When I got my new car, I took some cones out to an empty parking lot and practiced on my own, just to get an awareness of how far I could see (for both bumpers) and what size space I could fit into. It takes practice, like any other skill. Actually, it's a skill you are born with. It's all geometry and angles. Just ask George Costanza: +1
  16. I love shopping at Costco. We usually limit it to certain things. My wife jokes that my pickled goods intake accounts for 75% of our shopping there. Just like any store, there are some good deals and some not so good. Just be aware. Also don't over buy just because it's a good deal and then you have to throw stuff away. They get a lot of people on that! As for it being a zoo, we always try to get there close to opening time on the weekends because it definitely gets crazy. Saw an hour special on CNBC or something like that called "The Costco Craze." Very interesting. Speaking of groceries, your best bet for cheap groceries is always Target or Walmart. Grocery stores have great deals on certain items to get you in the store but the mark up on their other items is what kills you.
  17. That shake was sick!! I love it. So I've been away from the state and just not in to the NBA enough to pay for the season pass to watch the Bucks. So I really have just been keeping an eye here and there from afar. I just moved back to MN and with their solid young players, I feel interested again. My question is, how are we setup salary cap wise, for the next few years? Will we be able to make an ok move in FA (I know we can't get the best in Milwaukee) soon? I'm hoping for one more bad year, but with a fun team to watch. Get one more good draft pick and then enjoy for years to come. Am I too much of a dreamer? As for the stadium talk. Basketball seems like a downtown type sport. It's people getting off work and grabbing dinner and then heading to the game. It's business people entertaining. It's too bad that prices out and pushes back the real fans to bad seats, but big money always trumps that. I think because basketball is an inside sport, it lends itself to these types of business meetings/entertaining. Plus there isn't a whole lot to do in the winter in colder areas. Milwaukee may be a little more unique because it's smaller and the downtown isn't much of a draw (maybe that's trending the other way, which would be great). I could see a stadium working in the suburbs there, but I'm all for downtown. Look to our neighbors to the west. Minneapolis has done it right with their stadiums DT. I know it hurts the tailgating but it sure is nice to be surrounded by bars and restaurants for pre and post game festivities. Just my two cents.
  18. Texting and driving is a big problem. My wife and I seem to talk about it every time we are in the car. Everyone does it. When my wife and I first started dating (before people were really aware of the texting/driving issue) she told me she does not want me texting while driving. I kind of blew it off and then she told me that this was not just a request. She was very passionate about it. So I stopped and I'm glad I did. I'm at the point where I think I will start laying on the horn for 30 seconds until the person looks up and then give them a look. Hoping they will get it. Hopefully I don't get road raged off the road by the wrong person!
  19. Wow are you kidding me on the microwave thing? Unreal. Well I lucked out and got an iPhone 6 Plus last week!!! There was only one left and it was the exact color and size I was looking for. It was meant to be! I will say this phone is not for everyone, but for people looking for the phablet, it's beautiful. I honestly can't even look at my old 4s, it seems like a toy. Screen resolution is such a big difference. In a short time, I've taken some of my favorite pictures with its camera. It really is nice. I do think that the apple watch would be a nice addition to having this phone. As I stated earlier, I would love to have interchangeable phones, small one big one, depending on what you are doing. If the watch could act that way, you'd have a great combo of tech toys. Of course just a regular old phone works too, but for someone like me who get's really excited about this stuff, it's cool to think about. I do put it in my front pocket and it fits fine. I do notice it getting tight when I lift my leg to get in to the car. I think if you are careful with it and know it's in your pocket, it shouldn't be an issue.
  20. I haven't read through this thread so I apologize if this was discussed, but I say go get Gardy!!!!!!!! I would be super excited if we went that route.
  21. Ha! This thread just gave me the chills!!!! I'm out!
  22. Owbc - it would be nice to be able to leave the phone at home and still be able to communicate if needed. I'm guessing that is where Apple is headed. I think you can now continue what ever you are doing on one device and move it to the next, including calls. It would great to have interchangeable devices depending on your day (take the watch to the gym, phablet to work, watch when you go out, etc).
  23. Dhonks - Very interesting insight in to the youth of today. I really enjoyed hearing all the tech stuff you get in to with your students. Also, I love hearing how you try to help them learn real world stuff. Very valuable.
  24. Just curious, and it's hard to ask this question in writing without sounding condescending, but why do you reward a company that doesn't listen to the wants of their customers with your loyalty? I had a 4S that I received as a work phone in mid-2012 with a new job. It was almost the exact same overall size/dimensions as my personal phone, a HTC Evo 4G that I got in early 2010. However the Evo 4G had a much larger screen, even though the phone was about the same size. I found the iPhone screen painfully small and difficult to read compared to my Evo, and overall I found the iPhone to be inferior to the Evo, a phone using technology that was over two years old at the time. I think that when I got my 4S in mid-2012 the 5 was just coming out with a slightly bigger screen, but still, what took Apple so long to make a product that was more user-friendly? Apple isn't known for doing any customer insights/marketing research, and it shows. Ha, no worries man. No I get it, and I'm not blind to other companies. It's hard to explain for me but I just always have an excitement for their products. Like I said, it started a long time ago with their computers. It just seemed they always had such a great product. I agree it took them too long to come out with a larger screen, but I just couldn't see myself jumping off to another company. I'm not here trying to say that Apple is the best, just that Apple is the phone that excites me the most. Kind of like how some people like blondes and others like brunettes! As for size of the phone, I'm really surprised that someone hasn't come out with a tiny phone that is the size of a stick of gum. That will be the next big thing I bet!! Especially if everyone has a tablet.
  25. I guess I have been an Apple guy first because my family has always used them for our computers. I use a pc for work, but our personal computers have always been Macs. So it started there and then loved the iPod, the first iPhones, the iPad, new computers, and the train just keeps coming. I think part of it is I'm used to it. The other part is the quality of the product. I've just never had issues and that keeps me coming back. I have not doubt I would love some of the other phones out there, but I'm hooked. As for the size, I just really like the bigger size. It's like a hybrid iPad Mini/phone. I do so much reading on my phone as it is, the bigger screen is perfect for me. It might be awkward at times, but I'm sure I will be fine with it.
