  1. I expect to find a lot of disappointed Brewer fans when Lohse ends up being the 2nd best pitcher on the team. A lot of gross ignorance going on here.
  2. It is likely the end for Rogers. Most likely Peralta will start in AAA and they will play wait and see with Narveson and Fiers and that is probably the proper move. If Peralta isn't in the rotation to start the season that is a HUGE mistake, and I'm rarely upset, but this will force me to be. Peralta is more of a sure thing than Fiers and the ceiling is much higher. It only makes sense to have Peralta in the rotation. Fiers should be sent to AAA. No it really isn't, it is the obvious move. He has serious control problems and isn't ready for the majors at this point. Peralta is the weakest SP we have outside of Rogers who is useless. There is no reason that Peralta should be in the majors to start the season, just a waste of service time.
  3. 2013 200 IP, 3.60 ERA 2014 190 IP, 3.80 ERA 2015 150 IP, 4.50 ERA I will also take the over on 78 wins without Lohse and it isn't even remotely close to me. This is an above .500 roster. What we have lost over the past 2 years just doesn't add up to 15 teams or so loss in talent and what we lost from last year to this year doesn't add up to 5 losses. Unless you think the team got like 5+ games lucky each of the past 2 years the math just doesn't add up.
  4. Oops for some reason I thought they traded him, just makes my point stronger though. The Rays haven't traded much hitting because it has never been a position of depth for them. They trade pitching because they always have a bunch more coming.
  5. Fiers is way too much to give up for Blanks at this point imo.
  6. Most of the hate is because Lohse stunk before he learned a new pitch and because he happened to play for the same team as Suppan and Looper and well because most of the posters on this forum are incredibly negative about the team and have been for a few years now.
  7. I have to change my projection to 87-75 and between the Cardinals injuries and this signing I'm much much more confident in that 2nd place finish than before.
  8. It is likely the end for Rogers. Most likely Peralta will start in AAA and they will play wait and see with Narveson and Fiers and that is probably the proper move.
  9. Lohse was gonna sign with someone so the Cardinals didn't gain anything from this. We lost a pick and a big chunk of cash.
  10. I'd rather start Gonzalez than Carlos Lee at this point. Assuming Davis can't play 1B I'd rather just go with one of the other young guys though.
  11. Neither of these guys are way better than Lohse. Sanchez is a step above him and Jackson probably a step behind him. Both are younger and that is the really important part of what you said. If Lohse were 29 I'd be loving this deal, the key issue with the deal is he is 34.
  12. I mostly agree with this article though I like them for a couple more wins than projections even before Lohse. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/brewers-find-starter-lohse-finds-work/
  13. Yes I think he was. Fielder spent half a season in the majors while not even playing, that made no sense. Weeks was brought up to put fans in the seats and no other good reason. The team wasn't going to compete and he didn't have a ton of time in the minors yet, he still needed serious work on his fielding and was striking out way too much. On top of that they played him through an injury which made no sense. Hardy skipped started in the majors after missing time with an injury and having all of 120 PA in AAA, again this made no sense. Braun at least came up when we had hopes to compete so at that point it makes more sense. Gamel again burned a ton of his potential sitting on the bench in the majors when he should have been in the minors. Escobar went about the right path through the minors. Peralta should start this year in the minors to work on his command. It is infinitely better to leave a guy in the minors a little longer than you should than to bring them up before you should. Just go look at how the Rays and Cardinals tend to handle their minor league systems and you'll see why. You increase the length they are on your team and they make bigger impacts when they first come up because they are more polished.
  14. I dunno. I've been saying we should have signed a pitcher all off season because it was an obvious need. You can't rely on 5 guys who have never thrown even 150 innings in a season to cover for of the spots in your rotation. I'm not sure this is the signing I'd have done mind you, but the team definitely needed someone. I do agree I'd like this deal a ton more if it were 2 years. This is 100% results oriented thinking though. They have gone to the playoffs twice and both times they had legit world series contending rosters late in the season. It is really hard to sell me on that being a failure.
  15. Definitely too aggressive. The Rays and Cardinals do it the right way, the Brewers do it the wrong way. JB I'd rather have Edwin Jackson for sure. I like Lohse more than pretty much the rest of that list though. Of course most of those didn't cost a draft pick either.
  16. Whatever. We came off a year where we won 96 games and we didn't have any pitching really pushing its way into the big leagues. We can try to blame Melvin for not knowing that after 2 good years he was going to fall apart but it seems kind of silly. I have some issues with Melvin (mostly that he is too aggressive with prospects, doesn't seem able to build a good bench and seems pretty clueless about bullpen guys) but all of this he should have traded every player that ever had a good year and then later had a bad one right before the bad one stuff is just getting out of control lately.
  17. But again Lohse is a better pitcher than either of these guys were when we signed them. You are also fooling yourself if you think Wolf didn't work out. I hate that we signed a 34 year old to 3 years, I hate giving up a pick. I don't disagree with those points at all. But at least be honest about the past.
  18. 2 or 3 wins is quite a lot for a single pitcher. Gallardo is only worth 3 or 4 a year and none of our guys were replacement level. I had the Brewers as a low to mid 80 win team before, this shifts it to mid 80. Something like 83-87 depending on how much the young guys pan out. The Cardinals have taken a number of hits so I project them as the 3rd place team right now. The Reds have no depth at all at SP so to me if they take a big hit to their SP we are in the divisional race. If we get some luck in 1 run games we are in there too. Otherwise we should be right around the wild cards.
  19. I expect part of his breakout is for real but not all of it. I don't really enjoy signing any 34 year old pitcher to a 3 year deal though, even if he had been a good pitcher his entire career.
  20. I'd probably option Peralta to start the year as well and get him to really focus on improving his command which still isn't major league ready.
  21. He is not the same pitcher he was those previous 8 years. In 2010 he added a sinker and now he throws that 40% of the time. He used to throw 60% fastballs and it wasn't a very good FB, now he relies almost completely on the sinker. He is a lot like Tim Hudson in his pitching profile. I find that encouraging since Hudson always beats his ERA indicators as well so maybe that is a function of the sinker doing such a good job at suppressing HR. Comparing him to Jeff Suppan is just a show of ignorance though. I'm not very worried about his stats falling apart, his health is definitely something to worry about at ages 34-36 though. That is the part that bothers me.
  22. Most ERA tools suggest he is about a 4 ERA pitcher. Not a great deal but not an awful one. The big thing is just going to be how he ages. He relies heavily on a sinker that he developed mid 2010 and I think sinkers generally age well.
  23. That is probably a pretty accurate comment.
  24. Lohse is a much better pitcher now than Suppan was his best years, kind of the same guy only with much better control. We signed him for less money as well and for 1 fewer year so I definitely like this more than the Suppan deal. If this didn't come with losing the prospect I'd be ok with the deal. Losing the prospect makes me dislike it but I understand it at least.
  25. Capuano would be the only guy I'd consider but I wouldn't want to give up much for him.
