  1. If the Reds offered us Bruce for Hart I'd be doing backflips and accepting it instantly. He projects as a much better player imo.
  2. I think it really depends on what you think of the 2010 Reds. I see them as a team that had a bunch of guys over-perform like Arroyo, Stubbs, Rolen, Wood so last years pretty major regression to me was not a fluke of any type. But if you believed in the 2010 Reds then yeah I think they are a good bet to be this years version of the 2011 Brewers.
  3. Unless he spits out a couple more 40 HR seasons somewhere in the next 3 or 4 I don't think he's likely to make it.
  4. The Cardinals are the team that needs absolutely everything to bounce their way to win 90 games imo, assuming carpenter misses any real time, of course they managed to have that happen last year when wainwright got hurt.
  5. Do the same with the Reds and I don't see how you can make it to high 80s wins though. I don't have an issue with picking it Cardinals, Reds and Brewers in some order though. Personally I think the Reds pitching is still too weak but I don't think much of Cueto or his chances to stay healthy so that leaves it Latos and a bunch of mediocrity.
  6. You don't usually want to trade with teams you are competing against in your own division. So the Reds won't trade a major league player to the Brewers, the Cubs will be lucky to avoid last place so no big issue with trading with them.
  7. I'd take it. They aren't likely to be better than the 5th or 6th best any time soon so one year it will just all bounce their way. Last year was a really good shot for it to happen but it just didn't.
  8. Not really true, it is one of the higher ranked rosters in baseball from a team health report standpoint and has been for the past few seasons now. The Brewers don't sign a ton of injury risk guys like a lot of other teams, though adding Aramis and Gonzalez obviously is a change in direction. The year the Reds won 91 games they had half their team massively overachieve, it was no surprise at all that they took a major step back year, that was not a 90 win team and neither was last years and neither is this years. I do agree the Brewers aren't a 96 win team though, they are a high 80 win team.
  9. I agree invader. The Reds are sort of where the Brewers were a few years back, they just don't have the pitching or the depth to take the next step yet. I think they are an above .500 team this year and sure they could be the team that gets more wins than they deserve and make the playoffs like the Diamondbacks last year but they are still a low 80 win roster.
  10. So you think trading for Latos makes them a 11 win better team? This was a sub .500 team last year that hasn't really changed much this year, no reason to expect them to win 90 suddenly. They didn't have injuries that sidelined the team or anything, they just weren't all that good.
  11. Yep and they were a .500 team for 90% of the season and went on a crazy run to sneak into the playoffs on the last game and had 3 teams completely choke to give them a world series, what is the point? Yeah when everything bounces your way you can win a championship but that team in no way deserved it. Kind of like the Giants in the NFL they were the 8th or 9th best team in baseball and snuck into a championship.
  12. Just to add to this, Madson is having elbow problems which could be a blow to the Reds if it ends up being serious. Marshall can handle the closers job fine but that is a lot of depth to lose.
  13. It doesn't matter what happens in the offseason the teams that go to the World Series are picked for 1st. Don't really think this is an anti Brewer or pro Cardinal thing.
  14. The royals have at least 3 RP better than Broxton, that is a very deep bullpen.
  15. For the record I don't hate Michael Young, he is everything that is right about baseball. Hard worker, has moved positions multiple times now to make room for young guys (though he did complain some this last time of course). He just isn't anywhere near a HOF quality player. He might sneak in because voters are in love with 3000 hit marks (if he makes it) but he will just be another in the list of guys who really shouldn't be in that get voted in. Then again if Kirby Puckett can get in just about anyone can.
  16. I would say the injury has more to do with Woods than anything else. He seems completely over the rest of it and he still isn't the same player. I'm much more worried that Braun's groin is bother him than I am about some sporadic AB that don't even count for anything.
  17. If he were striking out a ton I might be concerned. He is hitting like normal and just making outs and he has almost never played 2 days in a row, not concerned at all.
  18. They almost never give out a 5 or a 1 to anyone so it really comes down to 2, 3 or 4 for most of the teams and using that ranking I'd error towards a 3 as well. Especially when you include the lack of depth. I think the only 5 lineup I've seen from them is the Rangers.
  19. Yeah it was a pretty fair show. They questioned the middle of the bullpen which is valid. They questioned the bench which is very valid too. The team really needs to stay healthy or it is in trouble because the offensive depth outside of Green is just terrible.
  20. Molitor still had a 121 OPS+ at the same age as Young. He just had less playing time because of injuries so his counting stats weren't as high. Young is not anywhere close to as good a hitter as Molitor was at the same age, especially when you add the hitting environment to the mix. Young's only shot at the HOF is to just get a lot of counting stats and hoping that incompetent voters vote on him.
  21. Melvin seems to have worked on his and that problem this off-season.
  22. When your argument for HOF hinges on getting a lot of hits you are basically saying he isn't a HOF guy.
  23. One of those is not like the others And Young doesn't even belong in the discussion of HoF. His wRC+ on his career is 107. Which makes him a decent hitting SS who isn't great in the field. I assume you mean Blyleven but he still isn't much of a slam dunk in my book.
  24. He doesn't deserve it. He might sneak in when he doesn't deserve it like Puckett or Rice, Dawson or Blyleven.
  25. The defense is already accounted for, if he were an average defensive 3B the contract would be a huge steal. No way. He really needs to be a first baseman at this point, and a first baseman at his age with his numbers would never have gotten 3 years/$36 million. That's when you're looking at one year/$7-10 million type deals, a la Carlos Pena. Not even close, if we could be sure he were average defensively it would be a no brainer fist pump steal of a contract. The truth is he isn't good defensively so it is questionable. Pena's contract was a steal btw, it is an example of how a low AVG kills a players value on the market even if he does everything else well. Ramirez was the 7th best 3B in baseball last year by WAR and that includes a big negative for baserunning and defense already. The majority of the backlash with him is coming from the fact he got hurt in 2009 and didn't heal until mid 2010. Over his past 225 games now he has put up an .872 OPS and outside of defense been pretty close to the same player he was pre injury. Age and injury are a real concern but they were already accounted for in this contract. If he were a 28 year old this contract would look like a steal, if he were good defensively we wouldn't be able to afford him with his offense, this is a pretty close to fair value contract albeit one with very little upside since he doesn't have any way to improve at this point.
