  1. That looks like a 60 game DL type injury for Gamel, sure hope it isn't as bad as it looked. If he is down long term at all do we call Derrek Lee? He is walking so not as bad as it looked.
  2. It is certainly a skill that can grow with time but I think it usually grows more because pitchers stop throwing strikes and force the hitter to adjust to it.
  3. Sure if you want to try to make the stats look bad you can do it since he did indeed start poorly. Since April 17th his OPS has pretty much climbed every single game with hits in most of the games. Trying to claim he was terrible between April 17th and today is abusing the stats. He hasn't had a very good season overall there is no arguing that, but it was just a slow first week and a half. If he produces the way he has the past 11 games we will be more than happy with him unless you have something against a .354 OBP and .932 OPS. There is obviously no sure way to know what he will do over the rest of the 130+ games but given his propensity for slow starts followed by good production my guess would be to expect the good production at this point.
  4. You mean Aramis was a joke for about a week and a half right? Since April 17th he has a .932 OPS.
  5. Wolf had a 4.47 xFIP last season which shows that his 3.69 ERA was quite fluky. He doesn't have very good stuff as it is and he's going to be 36 in June. His ERA was over 7 before the game started. He better turn it around soon or Melvin might start thinking like me. I'd trade him at any time I could and call up Fiers or Peralta so at least you have a pitcher with some sort of upside. Wolf's career xFIP-ERA is 0.23 and that is mostly in pitcher's parks, so that 4.47 xFIP suggests about a 4.24 ERA. Not sure how a 4.24 is considered bad by your 4th starter. Especially one who has thrown 190+ innings for 4 years straight. No reason at all to worry about Wolf right now imo. No reason to expect a sub 4 ERA either though.
  6. This is frustrating but Weeks' absolute refusal to ever shorten up with 2 strikes bothers me more Every time I watch Weeks I just get frustrated by the fact he uses a little league sized bat. It apparently works for him but I can't help but wonder if he used a normal bat if he wouldn't do much better.
  7. There is no way Kotteras tagged him there, he ran into his elbow but I can see why the ump called him out. Weeks got a bit of a break on that ball 4 call there too, maybe for once we are getting some breaks!
  8. Just using my four-eyes test, he seems to have gotten much better at laying off those the past couple seasons. That is probably true. His wSL/C has increased the past 2 seasons and his O-swing% has improved which would seem to suggest he isn't swinging at quite as many.
  9. I can't stand watching Hart play either, it doesn't mean he isn't an above average baseball player, he just looks ugly doing it and you always feel he could be so much better if he just got his fundamentals down.
  10. I don't know where to get them now that minorleaguesplits are no more.. That is just what I remember because I was the one commenting on the low walk rate while everyone else was freaking over his OPS being so high, heh. As for different philosophies that is fair enough but in the 30 years I've watched baseball it is pretty rare that I've seen pushing prospects end up being a good thing. David Price is not an example at all as he was a college pitcher who didn't pitch in the majors until age 22 and threw all of 14 innings that year in the regular season. That is a far cry from pushing a 19 year old onto your team in April. Price had already put in 300+ innings of professional level pitching before he even reached the minors and they kept him there for another 140 IP before moving him up and only after he had spent two quality stints at AAA and only late in the season when it wasn't likely to effect his service time.
  11. Hardy was a major candidate for regression this year. No way he hits 25 again. Probably more like 17. He really wasn't at all. He displayed the same power last year that he has every time he has been healthy. The huge concern with Hardy has always been injuries and how terrible he plays while dealing with them, that would be the reason to expect a big step back. There was nothing flukey about last year for him other than staying more healthy than normal. Hardy is a legit 25-30 HR player and has shown it his entire career while healthy.
  12. Was he destroying AAA before he was *going* to be called up, when the wrist injury derailed the initial callup (obv. he was then later called up)? I'm asking honestly. From an OPS standpoint he was destroying AAA from the start of the season. The one big wart was that he just wasn't walking at all early in the season but that picked up as the season went on.
  13. Yeah, the funny thing is he was a decent prospect coming off of a good 1/3 of a season callup so there was reason to think that he was partially legit. But that torrid streak seemed to completely mess him up and he just never got back on track.
  14. The Rays are an organization that recognizes the value of giving its elite talent time to mature in the minors, I'll gladly compare resumes between the two. Pushing your elite young talent is just dumb, no nicer way to put it. It is minimizing the value of your players and hamstringing your own organization.
  15. This really isn't all that crazy. Last year 2 guys hit 10 HR before May, Braun and Soriano. In 2010 Konerko hit 11. In 2008 Utley hit 11. In 2007 ARod hit 14. In 2006 8 guys hit 10+ including Albert with 14 and Shelton with 10. There are always 2 or 3 guys who run into a ton of bad pitches and have a big HR spike, when those guys are legit power hitters you expect 11-14 HR out of them.
  16. These teams have been hot against everyone, Dodgers as well. It is probably some part bad pitching and some part running into hot teams.
  17. If it improves at this point it is because he doesn't have Fielder behind him so he gets pitched around a bit more. It might make it to like 10 or 11% but unlikely it goes any higher.
  18. This is almost exactly what was said about Lawrie not being ready for MLB. Harper's promotion is all about his talent, not his MiLB stats. I didn't see a single person say Lawrie wasn't ready last year, I didn't read one single person make that comment on this forum or the fantasy forums. People were worried about his BB rate to start the year at AAA but by the time he was called up that had passed. I think Trout is ready too, he had some major league experience last year and was killing AAA this year. Harper should be in the minors for another half season and the only reason he was brought up was because they are off to a hot start and want to get fans in the seats, I doubt it is because they think he will actually produce right away.
  19. I don't remember the last time a Brewer pitcher got a close pitch called a strike.
  20. Well kind of cruddy game but at least it gave me something to watch. ESPN blasting me with the NFL draft which makes Golf or Nascar seem exciting has killed any chance of anything other than baseball being worth watching today. Talk about over doing it, it has just gotten silly at this point.
  21. Yes still a good idea. Trying to justify it by what happens the next inning is just silly. You have a completely gassed bullpen, a pitcher pitching pretty well and still low in his pitch count. If Estrada had come out and gone 1 2 3 would you be saying it was a good idea? If so you are going about this completely wrong. Molina took a pitch down and out of the strike zone out for a HR, not much you can do about something like that, sometimes the hitter just wins.
  22. That was a pretty darn good pitch. Molina is a lot better offensively than people give him credit for.
  23. You have a completely gassed bullpen which makes the choice for you.
