  1. Plus he didn't run after he struck out even though he would have easily been safe if he had and that wasn't anywhere near a strike. To be fair the White Sox have to lead all of baseball in mediocre at best pitchers with no hitters at this point.
  2. I think people forget just how good Parra was in the minors and how much his stuff and more importantly his control was hurt by the injuries. We never got to see the pitcher Parra was meant to be, he was another injury casualty like so many pitchers are.
  3. The team has played poorly and is still near .500 even though they have played a number of good teams, still not worried at all. A dose of crappy teams and the 3/4 hitters warming up is likely to make the team look good again and all the worries will be for naught. Seems like every single year we start slow in April this same topic comes up and the over-reactors look foolish almost every single year.
  4. You are making a pretty huge assumption here that his one bad season disproves the 1.5 good seasons for no good reason. Pretty much flies in the face of your own argument. I expect McGehee is a .750 OPS type player who will have wild swings both ways but there is more proof that he is an .800 OPS guy than a .650 OPS one at this point.
  5. Brewers had nowhere near a playoff caliber team in 2007 and Yo and Parra were both better prospects than Peralta is though Parra got derailed by injuries.
  6. My guess would be he is talking about the sudden nature of the thing, most pitchers get some sort of warning ahead of time that they will be pitching. I think that is a pretty weak argument in general though.
  7. There was never a doubt in my mind it would be Estrada when the time came, he was very solid in the role last year and his improvements last year were supported by the peripherals. Don't see anything at all wrong with this.
  8. Hoping the game is in Milwaukee tonight since I have tickets and I don't have time to fly to Colorado!
  9. There really wasn't anything wrong with the leash McGehee got last year. You have to give a pretty established guy at least half a year. He started heating up in July, had a really solid August and then stank again in September and they started to replace him more. They should have probably nibbled away at his playtime a little bit here and there in the 1st half but there wasn't a sure thing point last year where he should have just lost the starting job. Somewhere in that May/June range they should have found a way to sit him a bit more though since he was just so cold.
  10. Yeah I don't like the minor league starter in the bullpen thing unless he is going to go 2-3 IP on a regular basis. Dillard is only going to be used in garbage time so don't really need an upgrade for him. As long as you keep Loe away from good LH he is fine.
  11. Considering Braun was hitting just like normal before the last 3 games I think it is pretty safe to call it a small sample.
  12. You can make a case for more than a full season but I find it hard to make a case for less than 200 AB.
  13. Brewers have scored 7 or more runs in 3 of the first 12 games. They are 6th out of 16 teams in R/G in the NL on the year and 7th in OPS+. The offense has started out slow but it isn't nearly as bad as suggested.
  14. Gomez now has 1 K in 26 PA for the year, I wonder if he is finally 'getting it' or if it is just a fluke.
  15. I think the poor bench is just a combination of a weak minor league system and the fact the team is over budget just paying the starting players. If you have to leave a weakness it might as well be the bench and middle relief. The roster is flawed because we don't have the money to fix it but it is flawed in the right way. Probably the biggest thing that could have been done differently is not wasting the cash on Aoki but at that point they weren't sure that Braun would play the first 50 games so I understand why they did it.
  16. There is a really good reason Valentine was a broadcaster and that is because he isn't a good manager anymore. That said this Boston team is a .520 or so team in that division and he has no hopes of taking it to the playoffs.
  17. Yeah, this is one of the more absurd topics I've seen on this site. Anyone who thinks Yuni wasn't terrible just isn't paying attention.
  18. You are just using the wrong stats to judge pitching by. It is a bad defensive team in a hitters park in a hitting division. If we had swapped entire pitching staffs with the Cardinals team last year their ERA would go down and ours would go up. The Brewers had the 4th best FIP and 3rd best xFIP last year, there were only 5 or 6 teams in baseball last year with better pitching than the Brewers.
  19. The thing with the last spot in the bullpen is you don't want someone who should see consistent play there, so some young guy with upside is the wrong guy. You want some mediocre vet who can just soak up pitches on a random schedule. Dillard is probably fine for that.
  20. I hate the everyone wears 42 thing, devoting a day to him I'm fine with though.
  21. Kotsay would be worthless on this team, he would never ever have a reason to see play. Ishikawa is just there to provide some insurance in case Gamel comes out and stinks it up and they have to cut his playing time some, I don't hate it though I don't expect him to see much time either. The bullpen is pretty cruddy but that is mostly because KRod took arbitration so we are kind of stuck on cash to help it out, bullpens tend to work themselves out though so not too worried.
  22. Yes I was referring to the K rate. Basically the highest probability result of that matchup is an out with no runs scoring between his slow speed, his strike out rates and the fact he pops out a good bit.
  23. I'd go with reload, there is just too much of a core in place to not give it another season. I'd be looking to add a 1-2 year guy like Edwin Jackson got this year and then going with a young guy in the 5th slot. After 2013 would be the time to rebuild as we will be a year or three away from the next wave of young talent reaching the majors so taking a year or two off makes sense.
  24. I'm not a big fan of IBB Uggla either. You have a guy who strikes out a ton and generally hits for low average against a power pitcher with control problems. Seems like a bad time to IBB a guy.
  25. If the Brewers don't sign Greinke there is no way they will ever win 70+ games again, he is a 20 WAR player. Seriously, while I would love them to sign him no single player is likely worth more than 5 games or so to the team so if that money is distributed in smart fashion the team will be just fine.
