  1. The same strike zone we have gotten since last year in the playoffs, which was right around the time Braun's test happened. Not so sure that is a coincidence to be honest, though that is probably because my opinion of professional officiating pretty much couldn't be lower in general.
  2. I'd be shocked if he was league average or better this year and I would take the over on 1 trips back to the minors. Very strange timing on this since he didn't do very well in AA last year and has struggled in AAA this year. Still an exciting time for Nats fans and they sure could use it.
  3. The point was more that players struggle for 2 months at a time all the darn time and you can't just go benching them over such a small sample, but the discussion is pointless at this point, just forget I mentioned it.
  4. Gomez is a positive value player so he would be fine starting every day on some teams. It is just nice that we have other options. The key with Gomez is he should never be playing RF, all of his value goes down the drain when you aren't highlighting the defense. Morgan should never face a LHP I agree with that. I don't have clue what Aoki is, I like that he makes contact, he has only shown warning track power so far, haven't been impressed by his fielding or depressed by it either.
  5. Sounds like a lot of bias to me, you would be quick to bench McGehee because you didn't believe in him and you are quick to forgive Green because you seem to like him. That is fine and dandy but you can't blame a manager for not having the same biases you do. Unfortunately this is how many complaints about managers happen, you can't expect them to have 100% the same opinion of every player that you do and they aren't wrong when they disagree with you. Something like playing Kotsay can easily be attacked just by looking at stats but with McGehee there is way too much opinion being thrown in. For what it is worth I also feel like McGehee had over performed, but his rate stats had been good enough to give him that 2 month leash that they did as well and when you break down the numbers that is what it really was, a 2 month rotten stretch surrounded by some pretty average chunks of time.
  6. I was talking about 2008 when Hardy was sitting at a .617 OPS on May 17th and didn't break a .700 until late June. The point is if a manager is going to bench a proven player every time he struggles for a couple of months he is a bad manager. You might sit him for 2 or 3 days and give him a mental break but after 1000 quality PA you don't bench him over 150 PA where he struggles. On May 24th last year McGehee had a .711 OPS. From May 25th until July 24th he had a .468 OPS and got 6 games off. He then went on a month and a half stretch of over .800 OPS and collapsed again for the last half of September. It is a very valid opinion that he should have sat more than just 6 games during that horrid stretch but I completely disagree about it being complete mismanagement.
  7. And it is the same as Yost sticking with Hardy and then him figuring it out or with managers sticking with Jenkins during his cold stretches. Sticking with Hart in 2009 when he was awful in May and half of June etc. If McGehee had hit well in September people wouldn't even be talking about this anymore, it would have just been a typical cold streak that is frustrating and then forgotten.
  8. Large gap between great and bad enough to lose his job though. You have a guy with 2 straight good years for your club, gets off to a pretty normal April and then struggles for 2 months, that isn't enough to bench him. Then in July and August he shows signs and then when he starts to flounder again late August you start to sit him some for Hairston. I just think the comments are overblown. Players are going to have 2 month bad stretches, a manager can't just bench a guy every time it happens or he won't have a team left. They could have sat him down a couple games in May and June for sure but this wasn't some horrible mismanagement.
  9. I think the bullpen will somewhat fix itself when the starters stop being so terrible. We certainly don't have the worst pitching in the NL and right now we have given up the most runs.
  10. but sadly par for him. He played Kotsay plenty with better options behind him. He kept McGehee almost all of last year when he could have gone to Doug and said, "Hey, Casey is stinking up the joint, how about we give that Green kid who is raking in AAA a shot at 3B." Simply not true. McGehee was terrible early, decent in the middle of the season and terrible again right at the end. They should have let someone slot in for McGehee more early in the season but they didn't handle him anywhere near as badly as people want to suggest.
  11. If he's a really good 7th inning guy, then he's likely a really good relief pitcher. A really good relief pitcher probably doesn't come cheap, or at least cheap enough for the Brewers. Yeah I agree, a really good 7th inning option imho doesn't get much money is most likely a lucky fluke or a young guy who isn't good enough to start or close.
  12. There isn't much of an excuse for it but this kind of thing happens a dozen times every year by a random sampling of players so it really isn't the end of the world.
  13. Tickets were on stub hub for $2 so while yeah it is crazy I can see why it happened
  14. Lineup is fine but it has no significant upgrade over what we are already using so hard to commend it.
  15. I am so glad Lee isn't a Brewer anymore, he is the poster boy for just collecting a paycheck and not caring at all about the game at this point.
  16. It isn't about the inverted W, it is about why it is inverted. His balance is all screwed up which puts extra pressure on most of his body, you can have an inverted W with good mechanics and be ok but his mechanics are just awful. If I had to put money on his career I would say the Nationals are in the playoff hunt mid season this year, they push him to 180+ innings, he suffers an injury mid season next year, comes back from that and isn't the same guy.
  17. The minute I heard that Gamel's shoulder was sore I knew without a doubt he would sit today. No reason to send him out there instead of giving it a day or two to see how it feels.
  18. I don't think he'll make it to 1000 innings for a career to be honest but I think he will be highly effective when he does pitch.
  19. If Braun isn't supposed to publicly say something, leaking something wouldn't help him. It would just get people talking about it all again and it wouldn't be likely to change the minds of anyone who had already made it up. He is probably best off just letting blow over.
  20. I think people are overstating things a bit based on what was really one away series where he got booed so heavily. People tend to forget or at least stop caring about most of this stuff and while he might not make the all star game this year because of it by next year he'll still be an all star. As more of the older guys fall out of the HOF voting the questionable steroid guys will get more and more votes as will the guys the sabermetrics like. I wouldn't judge these things based on what we've seen so far because 20 years from now it will be a completely different environment.
  21. I didn't like it either but it is certainly a gray area. You need the RP to get some pitches in to find their stuff so you have to have a little longer leash in April. However the fact the team has scuffled out of the gate and are playing one of the worst teams in baseball and blew a big lead would make this such a devastating loss that I'd be managing it a bit differently than if we were say 12-6 or something.
  22. I don't really have any confidence in any of the Brewer RP right now. April can be funny like that with bullpens though. I'm sad that Veras is still out there to face Altuve though when he hasn't shown the ability to command his pitches at all tonight.
  23. To be fair Humber pitched a really good game, it wasn't like the one no hitter by Buehrle where he didn't even pitch very well there were just a ton of hard hit balls right at guys and it wasn't like Liriano's no hitter last year. I even owned Humber in a fantasy league and got the benefit, heh.
  24. I think the offense looks good. The stars haven't been hitting but the complimentary pieces have and you know the stars will come around eventually. Won't surprise me if we score more this year than last year given what I've seen so far.
