  1. This is just wrong, our minor league system was pretty terrible when he came in. Yes we had a couple big name prospects but it was still a really bad system overall, easily bottom half of the league. Melvin inherited one of the 3 or 4 worst franchises in baseball and he managed to turn it around. We were the Pirates back then and we easily could still be the Pirates.
  2. I'm fine with Weeks having a day off and yeah he does seem to be lunging a lot. However he also hit a few balls really hard just foul so I'm think his timing is off as well.
  3. I'm fine with both, it really doesn't matter what the team does if it doesn't win 100 games a year people are going to complain about them and most of the complaints are going to be about things that aren't realistic in the first place. We have a team that expects to be over .500 every season, I don't remember having that feeling any time in recent history. Sure we could probably find better guys but we could find much much worse guys too. I'd probably rather wait on Roenicke just because he hasn't even put in a year and half yet but don't really have a huge issue with it either.
  4. Braun sure does stink without Fielder there to protect him.
  5. I have been struggling with whether or not to cut him form my fantasy teams... He just sits there on my bench and takes up a roster space. Cutting Weeks is what a bad fantasy manager does at this point in the season, don't be a bad fantasy manager. It is still extremely early, about 50% of the guys people are worried about will have completely normal seasons or even good seasons at this point.
  6. My guess would be that this was his 3rd game pitching in a row even if the pitch counts were low in the other 2. At some point you just have to use other pitchers and since we don't have many reliable guys it is going to mean bad matchups at times.
  7. Hyperbole like this makes this kind of discussion completely impossible. No, it really is easy. Just watch his foot and listen for the catch. Quite simple, yet these clowns blow a call practically every game. That was an easy call. Blown. The Jerry Hairston play, easy call completely blown. Basketball is tons easier than baseball.
  8. The umpiring in tonight's game has been just dreadful. To be honest there are probably 3-4 bad calls in every single game I watch these days, just horrible.
  9. I know one person who met him and had to deal with him on a professional level and she said he was one of the least pleasant people she has ever met. The guy certainly has some attitude issues holding him back.
  10. April is worthless, the stats count but trying to make any sort of reasonable decision about a team or a player because of April is just useless. This same thing happens every year. If the team stinks through May without any real signs of improvement then starting to squawk about selling etc is probably fine but after April it just isn't useful.
  11. Ok well pretend I said drafted and developed them, trying to argue semantics of things like this just derails the discussion completely and it really isn't important at all. A lot of teams have struggled to develop SP so while it stinks that we haven't had much success it is at least a little normal. I can't think of another team that has failed as miserably as we have wtih RP though.
  12. We got Axford 3 years after he was drafted, hard to say we developed him. That is like saying the Rangers developed Nelson Cruz. Ok to rephrase it how can a team be so bad at drafting and then developing RP arms, it is something most teams do on a consistent basis yet we have somehow completely failed at it. I'm not just talking elite guys either, we just have been terrible at it all around.
  13. A RP that we didn't develop though, we kind of lucked into Axford. It is just hard to believe that a team can be this bad at it.
  14. The Brewers have one of the better thought of training staffs in baseball so hard for me to complain about them. Pretty much every time Will Carroll talks about team training staffs he points towards the Brewers as an example of a good one. They have won awards in recent history and the team is usually one of the healthier teams in the league.
  15. I'm just baffled that the team hasn't been able to develop any good RP in recent years. I look around the league and every team seems to have a couple young upside RP to work out in their bullpen and we just have nothing. We finally seem to be developing some starters but it is hard to fail at RP for this long of a stretch.
  16. Lets try to not be like the dumb analysts on TV here, Suppan did not pitch a good game. If not for a couple hard hit balls right at guys with the bases loaded he could have easily given up 5 or 6 runs. It absolutely stinks that we lost to Suppan and that for the 2nd day in a row we couldn't buy a hit with RISP but he looked pretty terrible too.
  17. I'd say Basketball is easier to get the calls right with at least, not talking how physically demanding it is etc.
  18. Weeks has been a better hitter than Kent was by age so far so this seems a bit odd. It wasn't until Kent most likely started using steroids later in his career that he really exploded. Weeks has also pretty much always been underrated offensively by people who still miss value AVG.
  19. We really were not lucky last year, people keep saying this but it really wasn't true. The team had one of the top 3 cleanest rosters by team health reports going into the season and they had injuries to multiple key players. Last year was about what you expect from a roster like that. They added a lot more risk this year with Gamel never having a full season in the majors and Aramis and Alex not being the most healthy of individuals.
  20. Officiating is terrible in all sports pretty much.
  21. This reminds me so much of Hoffman's demise a couple years ago. Backend relievers lose it really quick. Yes because a lot of pitchers are just done at age 30, that is much more common than the 30 or so RP who get off to a bad first 12 innings each year.
  22. But again a college hitter is not pushed after a full season in the minors. He was 24 years old with 200 games in the minors plus college ball, that is not pushed. Griffey, Yount, ARod etc are great examples but the financials were very different at that point and ARod and Griffey killed the minors in the little bit they spent in them. ARod killed them for 174 games, Griffey for 130 games. Yount is probably the best example but I'm not sure bringing up Yount when they did was actually a good idea as it took him 7 years to mature into a good hitter in the majors.
  23. Gamel looked a ton better before the shoulder injury. This strike zone is horrible, can't see how that wasn't a strike.
