  1. There was absolutely nothing awful about that AB by Braun. That was more or less a perfect pitch to get him out.
  2. Last time was in 2002 with Odalis Perez, before that it was 1983. As mentioned by MadScientist it has happened 5 times since the mid 60s.
  3. Since the second series of the season the pitching has gone 124.2 IP, 3.83 ERA, 99 K, 57 BB and allowed 4.3 R/G. Not half bad at all.
  4. So far for our $42M we have gotten 404 IP of 4.90 ERA and a 23-24 record. I never minded his signing I just think they gave him $2-3M too much a year and 1 year too many(yeah I guess that means I did mind it but you get the idea!). The idea of getting a bunch of mediocre innings to take some stress off of a young rotation was fine though.
  5. I agree but at the same time it is obvious nobody wants to give Edmonds what he wants since he is still unsigned so at some point he caves in and takes the 4th OF role.
  6. Your numbers in parenthesis are very confusing but I assume you mean 2-3 means 2 of 3. I'll go with 14-14. Pretty tough month overall with only 5 games against teams that have little chance of being over .500 and a lot of games against playoff caliber teams.
  7. It sucks when an umpire has a large or small zone but it is part of the game and it generally holds true for both sides. It helped Snell as much as Gallardo so I don't really see what the complaints are about. Maybe if the Pirates could lay off the curve bounced 3 feet in front of the plate they would do a little better, I know at least 2 guys struck out on that one http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif.
  8. They had a graphic on MLB network that showed the last 5 times it had happened. Last one was in 2002 by Odalis Perez. After that it was like 1983 and then the 5th on the list was in the 60s. So it is pretty rare.
  9. 100 pitches through 7 innings with very few stressful ABs is not a big deal, Gallardo can go 120 today without it being a big deal. Now trying to shave a few pitches off of his season total to keep his arm fresh makes some sense but with a 1-0 game and a somewhat worn out bullpen I don't have any big problem with it.
  10. If he is playing with pain it can do all sorts of bad things including committing to swings earlier than normal or just outright guessing, which is generally what swinging at sliders in the dirt really is. A day off many times helps a slumping player, a day off many times helps an injured player. Seems like a natural place to start things, much better than just moving him around in the order hoping that magically works.
  11. I'm a little worried that his back is bothering him still so the first thing I would do is just rest him a game or two.
  12. Mines looking decent so far though I'd be more comfortable if I had said 11-11!
  13. 2 more outs with bases loaded tonight!
  14. We also have an .939 OPS with 2 outs and RISP and an .845 OPS in high leverage situations. So while the bases loaded thing is kind of neat I don't put too much stock into it. For what it is worth we were miserable with bases loaded last year too with an .563 OPS but in 07 we had an .895 so I guess we used up all our luck that year.
  15. Another definition of pinch hitter is your production over a small time frame is more or less random. I'm sure Lenny Harris went 0 for 10 or more at some point in his career too.
  16. I'm not sure Nelson really looks lost at the plate, he almost hit a grand slam the other night and then last night he took some pitches which were just off the plate, he just happened to swing over a change up for strike 3. The samples are so low that I can't really be worried about this yet. I would think the option for OF is Gwynn since Cain got hurt but to be honest they might as well just use Duffy more instead since he is Gwynn with a little more power. I wouldn't mind signing Edmonds if he would go cheap and was willing to take a backup job.
  17. If you are going to give up on our RP off of a couple weak line drives then I agree, but he did not pitch that bad at all this time around. He hasn't been fantastic at all but he was hardly terrible either.
  18. The biggest issue with cameron is he has historically worn out late in the year his entire career. I'd like to see him take a day or two off every month to try to keep him fresh.
  19. The general trend is that players lower their K, raise their BB and hit for higher AVG in the mid to late 20s. Seems like the Brewer hitters are mostly just following the generic trend more than a hitting coach is changing them. Generally speaking at the age of our young regulars you would expect their power to mostly stay flat or slightly improve while their OBP increased and their fielding improved thus increasing their value. That seems to be the general trend.
  20. Do they normally play a closers intro music during non save situations like this? I never pay attention to these things so just kind of curious.
  21. You mean the 2 hole where he went 0-28 at one point last year or the 2 hole where he barely had a better OPS than while he batted 5th last year. It has nothing to do with it, he had a lot of bad luck early and he slumped the last couple weeks. The position in the order is not the answer.
  22. I think Nelson is the best choice we have for a LH Of off the bench since you don't want to stunt anyones growth. I question Macha's choice to use Nelson there though, that seems like a Counsell moment to me since his career numbers with bases loaded are so good and he does such a good job putting the ball in play. He isn't even grounding out much this year with the new stance.
  23. That lineup is pretty terrible, so why don't you throw some strikes here Looper!
  24. Fielder may never hit 50 HR again but I don't think he has had his career year either from a pure hitting standpoint. Defense is certainly more important than the past and teams don't seem interested in keeping older guys around as much as before either. The game is getting younger and more athletic in general. A good example of this are all the young CF with starting jobs in the NL while Edmonds sits at home watching soap operas.
