  1. He swung at a 2-0 ball last night against Valverde(fastball outer-half of the plate). He ended up striking out that AB.
  2. Parra had thrown 97 pitches and his control wasn't as sharp the last 2 innings. I think that was a good time to PH for him for sure.
  3. I like that Macha is PH with Hardy here. Yost always seemed to refuse to use a guy on a day off. 1 AB and then sitting back on the bench does not invalidate a day off somehow Ned~.
  4. There is no judegement call on a ball that hits a runner. It is automatically a hit, even if it would have been a routine play.Yep your right, just looked it up. The only judgement call is which fielder is closer to give the credit for the out.
  5. I would completely ignore BBs for hitters as well as pitchers in April. It is by far the highest BB month and it seems random which hitters/pitchers benefit from it most. Every year some pitchers just can't throw strikes in april to save their lives and every year random hitters take advantage of it.
  6. It is an official scorer's call on things like that. They try to interpret what would have happened in a vaccuum on plays like that. Same reason Braun got a hit on the ball that hit Hart, they decided that if it had not hit Hart it would have been a single.
  7. For what it is worth, both of those astros fansite links go to the same page, one to the forum, one to the main blog. I have a lot of faith in Parra long term but in the short term he really needs to throw strikes tomorrow. The bullpen is pretty beat down and an exit in the 4th inning tomorrow is going to be painful unless the Astros have the same.
  8. Bad choice but I guess if Macha has no faith in Swindle it doesn't matter much. Julio hasn't been good in the past 5 years or so, so not sure why we are keeping him around.
  9. Maybe but it was the last out of the game, Berkman was hobbling, it was a bang bang play, Hall has been amazing defensively lately. All signs point towards hang at 1B as far as I'm concerned. It is distrurbing to me that on a play like this that was so over the top Hall's fault gets blamed on Fielder who at most made the wrong choice between try to stop the terrible throw and hope he could dig out an off line throw that was bounced way in front of the bag. There is no way that the error should be blamed on anyone but Hall. It takes a normal throw for it to be an out, it takes an amazing scoop to make it an out, it takes a split second decision to hop off the bag to block the bad throw.
  10. He has always had the talent vs righties, just never the health. Maybe playing 1B and maybe a little DH will let him finally hit 30+ HR 'out of the blue' kind of like Cust did.
  11. Towles runs pretty well for a C, lets hope he still hits into the DP.
  12. Can't wait to see the WPA chart for this one, I just hope we come out on top and that this failed bunt doesn't come back to kill us like it always seems to. Seems like these always turn into singles.
  13. That is a really bad pitch for JJ to swing at in this situation and even worse of a pitch for Hall to swing at. If we lose this game we deserve it. In fact that 1 AB sums up exactly why Hall struggles so much vs righties. The pitcher is obviously tired and having problems throwing strikes and you swing at a pitch in the dirt with bases loaded and 1 out? Just rubbish.
  14. That pitch change was at least 1 batter too late, CV was over 40 pitches. I know Macha wants to save DiFelice in case Parra can't throw strikes tomorrow but to me that was a Ned Yost decision leaving CV in so long.
  15. No way in heck, that was 100% Hall. The ball bounced in front of 1B and was so far off line Fielder would have had to taken at least 2 steps off of 1B just to straighten up on it. Fielder gets way too much blame for horrible throws like that. Sure some 1B make that play sometimes but that is a throw that any 1B in baseball can miss.
  16. Halls throw was 10,000 times worse than Fielders pick, the play bounced and was way off target. To square up on that Fielder would have had to take 4 steps off of 1B.
  17. Free out when the RP can't throw strikes, I'll take it. Especially with a gimpy Berkman at 2B.
  18. I like this move with Coffey in the 8th. If things go well Berkman and Lee won't get to hit again so no good reason to save him for the 9th and he can even go 2 if need be.
  19. 6 IP, 3 ER is a quality start too for what it is worth, our 8th in the last 9 games if I'm not mistaken.
  20. I can live with Suppan staying in here but I think if I were manager I'd have gone to the bullpen since Suppan didn't look good the last 2 innings. One of those choices that can go either way so if it turns out poorly I won't complain. I just hope they don't let him face more than Bourn if he hits the lineup for the 4th time.
  21. I'd love to see DiFelice in the rotation but I just don't see it happening anytime soon unless Parra continues to have control problems (which I don't think he will personally).
  22. I don't think either of these pitchers are going to make it through the lineup a 3rd time at this rate.
  23. Sucks that Suppan is out pitching Hampton by a decent margin yet we are losing 2-1. Baseball is funny like that.
  24. This is a pretty terrible offense if Lee ends up sitting so hopefully Suppan can keep us in it.
