  1. The run was actually earned, not that I think that makes you feel any better! The error didn't ultimately lead to the run so the official scorer called it earned.
  2. If you want to feel a bit better about things you can look at Yankee box scores, heh. They are down 15-2 again today. I think endaround makes a pretty good point. If they don't have a bit of a hot streak by mid season it does change things a bit when it comes to adding players, trading players, limiting Parra's/Gallardo's innings etc.
  3. Good teams do a combination of both is probably the correct answer. Really depends on the situation the team is in, the market size, the player and the players they have behind them in the minors.
  4. Certainly not as much as personal attacks on another poster~. Sure the first line of my post is condescending and was meant as a reply to the title of the thread. The teams record really shouldn't be what does and doesn't get someone excited. Would this post have been made had we started 8-3 with the same players? I highly doubt it. I stand by what I said before, this just seems like another vent post to me and nothing else.
  5. This coming from someone who had to add... "And again, please leave to comedic routine to the people who can pull it off... " and "Seriously, I know you like to leave your mark in every single thread on this entire board" to there posts? You probably should have taken the high road to this argument. The only condescending attitude I am seeing here is yours.
  6. I'm as sensitive to the losses as anyone and I fully agree that we could end our season in Sept and look back at the bad start as the reason why, but we clearly can have multiple 3-7 stretches and still make the playoffs, the Phillies did it last year as I already mentioned. We did it 4 times as someone else mentioned. The slow start sucks, especially these last few games that were so darn close, but it isn't the end of the season. It doesnt' mean Melvin sucks, it doesn't mean there is no reason to be excited about the team, it doesn't mean we should start DFAing every marginal player on the team, it doesn't mean the pitching is going to be horrible all year, it doesn't mean we will be lucky to win 65 games. These are all things you can see on the front page today. It means we got off to a crappy start and need to have a really good hot streak at some point to offset it.
  7. Or they don't get a bounce go their way scoring a run and we do and we take the game 1-0 and the exact opposite happens. Hindsight is 20/20 and the outcome could have easily gone either way.
  8. It wasn't supposed to be funny, it is the truth. Freaking out over the first 2 weeks of the season just isn't worth it. If you honestly have been following baseball since Yount was a rookie you would know that a less than 2 week period really means nothing in the big picture. You would also know that the team has plenty of players to be excited about. I read this as just another vent by a frustrated fan and we have plenty of other threads doing exactly the same thing.
  9. Not at all. Runner got 3rd on the error, when he would have been held at 2nd. And then Reyes gets a single on the line drive with the runner maybe advancing, castillo hits a single and the run scores from 2nd or 3rd.
  10. Weeks error didn't lead to the run for what it is worth. They would have scored even if he makes the play.
  11. Great chance to double switch out Kendall here but I'm sure we won't do it!
  12. Phillies started last season 4-6 and won the world series. They also had stretches of 3-10 and 3-7.
  13. Initial reports are Pelfrey will be skipped tomorrow and we'll likely face Nelson Figueroa who went 3-3 last year with 2 of his W coming against the Brewers, one as a starter and one as a RP. We will win today and lose tomorrow is my prediction!
  14. I will say I am very glad we did not trade for Peavy, he is at least partially a product of that park and he is one of the riskier pitchers from an injury standpoint. If we were going to trade for an 'ace' I'd have chased after Halladay even though he isn't 'technically' on the block. Lowe was probably too big of a risk as well given the length and money of the deal, though I'd have loved to have signed him. Looper is better than a lot of other options out there though, we could have say overspent to get Garland instead and just got the same pitcher only younger I guess.
  15. He had a 30% breakout rate in PECOTA and his 90th percentile line is .292/.407/.504 with a more reasonable 75th line of .282/.393/.478.
  16. Just to add one more bit of wisdom to this thread. Jack Z does not draft anyone without input from Melvin and Melvin does not trade a prospect without input from Jack Z. You can't really separate these two from each other. If you think we made bad trades it is a knock on Jack Z as well and if you think we had great drafts it is a plus for Melvin as well. Also one more note, lets imagine a scenario for 2008. Sheets elbow stays healthy for 1 more month, the offense doesn't falter in September and CC doesn't have to pitch on 3 days rest his last however many times out. We enter the playoffs with a functioning offense, CC, Sheets and Gallardo as the rotation. I can easily envision a world series appearance if that had happened. The Brewers really were very close to making a serious world series run last season, they had a team every bit as good as the Phillies outside of the closer. It was just a slumping offense, an injured ace and an overworked ace that did them in.
  17. I'll take the over, I think we win 1 of these games against the Mets, 1 or 2 against the phillies and then 2 against the Astros and 2 against the Pirates to close the month. So 7-11 after 18 and 9-12 after 21. I'll still take the over on 81 wins for the season though and I'll take a bet that this isn't the worst 10 game stretch we see all year, this is baseball afterall. Almost every team in baseball goes 3-7 at some point every single season.
  18. Yes he would have last year. Now if you mean a young guy who hasn't proven it at the major league level, then sure we could have gotten some guy like that and missed the playoffs last year most likely. What really killed us in the Sabathia deal is not getting the compensation pick. Brantley isn't any better than what we can get with a 1st round pick so it becomes LaPorta for Sabathia at that point. A blocked player with no defense for a shot at a playoff.
  19. OMG THE SKY IS FALLING! This is a team with a lot of good young players and with a decent farm system. It isn't one of the best 8 teams in baseball but it is good enough to stick around .500 all year and hopefully get a big hot streak and sneak into the playoffs.
  20. What a rotten way to lose the game, back to back gorundballs hit as hard as my 6 year daughter can hit them and we lose the game.
  21. McClung coming in, I can't see this ending well.
  22. Stetter has had good success against righties so I have no issue with it at all. He was being used as a LOOGY because he was our only lefty, with 2 of them in the pen he doesn't have to be stuck with that role.
