  1. Ok, it looked like it on gameday too but that isn't always accurate. His ERA is down to 9 on the season, hopefully it goes even lower at some point this year!
  2. Is Suppan getting pinched a bit or is he just not throwing strikes. He isn't the type of pitcher who can fall behind this much.
  3. He is 7th in UZR/150 at 2B so far this year. He was improved last year as well, especially in the first half. The question is just consistency, can he keep it up over a full season.
  4. I'm starting to really worry about Braun, he is just not hitting anything with authority since his injury.
  5. Kendall still had a .327 OBP last year with what was probably a flukey low BABIP. I really don't have a big problem with him hitting in OBP type situations myself. It is situations like a runner on 1st with no outs where he needs to be pinch hit for, where a double drives in a run and a GIDP ruins your scoring chances.
  6. I haven't had much of a problem with what he has done so far. I wasn't a fan of the Hart move either but if he keeps on taking all these BBs I'm good with it. Maybe Hart needed to bat 2nd to be convinced his job was to get on base and not just hit for the fences, dunno. I really didn't like the fact he kept Bush in to face Hoffpauir last night but I guess it worked so hard to be too critical of it.
  7. I decided to check this out using the criteria of getting out to a 3+ run lead in the first 5 innings and keeping a 3+ run lead the rest of the game. The last time that happened was August 9th, 2006. We got out to an early 6-0 lead and they scored 3 runs on an Aramis Ramirez HR in the 6th and we won 6-3. Dave Bush went 8 strong with a save by Cordero, Brady Clark hit a 2 run homer off of Zambrano and David Bell and Geoff Jenkins each added 2 RBI off Zambrano.
  8. http://www.baseballprospe...ticle.php?articleid=8732 Nothing really stands out in it but thought it was an interesting read nonetheless. Interestingly enough he invented a new training device that is becoming very popular. http://www.vizubat.com/
  9. Bland and average but with nothing really annoying about him. Things I find annoying include rampant homerism (Ron Santo is the worst at this), annoying catch phrases (Hawk Harrelson though he is guilty of #1 too), not learning the opponents names (I hear that a lot on mlb.tv, the ball is grounded to the thirdbasemen instead of his name, etc). His only big issue so far is he never seems to say anything interesting outside of what is going on in the game.
  10. I didn't reference a study, I posted a link to an article that suggest falacies in spring training cliches. You never referenced a study either though, that is my point. You referenced a generic comment on weight and athletics that had nothing at all to do with baseball or with power. Sure, if a player gained a ton of weight and it hurt him more than just HR hitting or if his stats suffered the entire year instead of just the first month and a half I could see it. There is nothing in Fielders stats that really suggests weight or diet preference had anything to do with his stats. My problem is really people saying that it is fact that his weight caused his power outage when there really is no proof at all that it is true. He lost a few HR, people looked for a reason why, they pointed at his weight and diet with no real proof behind it. Just seems much more likely to be random variation than anything else since like 20% of all baseball players fluctuate wildly year to year each season. If I have to rank why Fielder had an 'off year' I'd put it this way. 1) Random fluctuation of hot/cold streaks 2) Sophomore slump caused by trying to do too much (I know he's not technically a sophomore) 3) weather/offense being down/tougher pitchers faced than previous year etc. 4) Pissed about his contract status 5) Weight gain 6) Diet change As for Suppan I have been playing along with our season in DMB and after tomorrows game we are 4-2 and Suppan went 7 IP with 2 ER and we won the game including back to back HR by Braun and Fielder and a solo HR by Cameron later. So I'm confident!
  11. To be fair to him at least 1 of those pitches and maybe 2 of them were balls. The last one was a strike for sure though, he was just guessing a different pitch. The thing with Marmol is he has so much movement that not even the ump has a clue whether it is a strike or not without instant replay~.
  12. So what happened on that last play exactly? How did fielder get stuck between bases on a strike out?
  13. Hart with back to back 2 BB games? Is that legal?
  14. McClung is up in the bullpen? What the heck is Macha thinking. I am completely baffled by this bullpen usage tonight even if it might work out.
  15. I'm getting older, I think i need some sort of medication to make it through games like this. Cubs fans all are saying he was out, tough break.
  16. Let me just say that I HATE bush pitching here. This should be Stetter with no question at all. Edit : Well Dave proves me wrong, I still hate that move.
  17. Unless something good happens here like a double play, this should be Bush's last hitter. This game feels like so many from last year, Brewers out hit them early, can't score big runs and then the other team has one big inning and we are behind.
  18. Zambrano with a 'quality start'. 4 IP, 4 singles, 2 doubles, HR, 2 BB and we score 3 runs off him and then choke for 2 innings. If we lose this it is going to be the lack of the big hit that does it.
  19. This game is bugging me, we should have more than 3 runs and those kind of games always seem to come back to haunt you. On the plus side Zambrano is at 104 pitches through 5.
  20. I'll love the game more if Braun plates a run here. We have way too many baserunners through 4 to only score 3 runs.
  21. 70 pitches for Zambrano through 3. If we can get him out after 5 I really like our odds against the MR.
  22. I'd like to have scored a run there but at least we used up 27 pitches in the first inning.
  23. You should be able to watch all the games in Alaska.
