  1. I won't be surprised isn't a conclusion it is a statement that it won't surprise me if he is hurt. His swing just hasn't looked right since early spring training. He had the same injury flare up after resting it the entire off-season, an injury that never got fixed just rested and one that you can't really 'fix' you have to 'manage' it. I'm worried about it, sorry if that offends you somehow.
  2. Here is what I have learned but I'll still say that 6 games can make anyone look good or bad so it is pretty meaningless overall. Officiating is just as bad as last year. Already a number of terrible calls and the strike zone in a couple of our games has been criminal. (that is not an excuse for suppan last night, the starter does need to adjust to a bad strike zone, Dempster did, Suppan didn't) Weeks really does look like a different player, hopefully it keeps up. Braun looks hurt to me, I won't be surprised if we see him on the 60 day DL before the end of the year and that will be the end of our season. I'm really worried about it. Looper looked good, his control was off but that isn't a surprise considering he missed so much of spring training, I really like the movement on his stuff. (Garland isn't any better and costs more so I'll disagree with JB on that part!). DiFelice has really impressed me, I hadn't seen him pitch before spring training so what we've seen this year is all I can go on but I'd rather start him than Suppan. Jason Kendall needs to sit more often. He was valuable last year because of the defense but to expect him to repeat his career year defensively at his age is probably wishful thinking. Hart has taken more walks but his approach at the plate is still terrible.
  3. We know absolutely nothing. I could break it down point by point but nothing you posted is certain given what has happened so far. What you thought of players before the season started means more than what these 6 games say.
  4. A start like he had vs the Giants won't do much imo, he was locating well he just had a lot of balls go through for hits. A start like tonight is going to make Macha think about things for sure though, he threw more balls than strikes and there is no way Suppan can succeed like that.
  5. Could be, I don't know enough to judge. The stance very well may allow him to go the opposite way with pitches he normally would pop out or flat out miss. We just need to see more of the season to figure it out.
  6. Not as drunk as if you just took a drink every time Kendall grounded out weakly to 3B.
  7. The biggest surprise to this series to me is how much more Pinella seems to want it than Macha even though the game probably means more to us than them as the division favorites. He has burned his bullpen, pinch hit with an injured player, is about to use his closer in a non save situation etc. Macha is managing like he doesn't want to stress out his bullpen or bench. Pinella has played this like it is the world series, Macha like the games just don't matter.
  8. He has had that strike zone each of the last 2 years and it is consistent with every crew out there, I know cause I've owned him in fantasy and watched a lot of his outings. He has a bigger strike zone than Maddux in his prime and that is saying a lot, I've seen him throw a pitch a foot out of the zone and get a strike more than a couple of times. But yeah it is more annoying that this game would be 6-6 without a Cub player getting hurt than anything else. Even their freakin injuries have turned the series their way.
  9. Marmol is my least favorite player in baseball now~. He gets so many ridiculous strike calls because the movement seems to confuse the umpire. Means every hitter is off balance against him because they have no clue if a ball 3 inches off the plate is going to be called a strike or not. Like that first strike against Hart was a ball all night for both teams, gives a strike for Marmol for some reason.
  10. I dunno what he said but he took 2 runs away since 2 of the runs scored anyway. It is easy to get down on the team but we are facing the team most people think is the best in the NL and we have been outscored by 3 runs so far over 3 games while throwing our 3 worst pitchers against their 3 best. I find it hard to take this as some sort of huge negative.
  11. Sorry but I really disagree with this, fans jump to all kinds of goofy conclusions early and this is one of them. Gallardo, Parra, Bush, Looper is a very solid front 4, competitive with the majority of teams in baseball. If Suppan can revert to his boring 4.75 ERA self he is fine as a #5. The bullpen isn't anything special but it isn't a disaster either. Once Hoffman is back as closer and CV can move back to setup it makes things a lot better too.
  12. It has but you have to adjust to it, you can't just keep throwing on the corners that aren't getting called and expect the ump to change how he is calling it. That was Suppan's biggest early though he completely fell apart at the end there and wasn't anywhere close to strikes.
  13. He was out but hard to blame umps for plays like that. Gathright held his leg up for some reason even though he beat the ball.
  14. He has always had three problems so far in his career. Too many strike outs, too many pop outs, not enough line drives. I don't know what a simple change in approach to right field will fix those issues, the modified batting stance might fix some of it though.
  15. They just said we lost CC and Sheets and didnt' replace them with anyone... did they forget Looper and Gallardo? Hall should never bat over Counsell against a righty with the bases empty. Why dump a .350 OBP for a .300 OBP.
  16. Bradley left with a groin strain. Gotta assume that is a DL stint.
  17. If we have to replace Suppan we should go with our best starter to replace him, so DiFelice.
  18. Well if he pitches like today he won't last that long in my opinion. If he pitches like he did against the Giants he'll get at least a month more of starts.
  19. On the bright side Gallardo pitches tomorrow. I'l reiterate that I'm very worried about Braun, he just does not look healthy. I hope he proves me wrong with a big HR later or something.
  20. Leaving Suppan in to walk in his third run of the inning against a very patient LH hitter should not happen. Suppan threw about 5 strikes in 25 pitches that inning before Fukudome came up, you have to take him out there.
  21. Hey Macha, this isn't normal for Suppan, he survives by not giving up a ton of BBs. You should take him out before the game is over. That is why you have 2 long relief guys.
  22. You can start the leash now, game is still going on but Suppan was just not throwing strikes.
  23. I defended SUppan that first game because he hit his spots but just got hit, but this is just ridiculous the number of balls he has thrown today. 64 pitches, 32 balls. Even if he gets out of this and pitches a solid next inning this was a terrible outing.
