  1. Suppan with the RBI double! Lincecum up to 45 pitches already, that is good news.
  2. Suppan is pitching fine if you are watching the game. Two groundballs that probably should have been outs but just happened to be in the wrong places, a joke of a HBP that only hit the guy because his shirt is even baggier than Princes and then one really hard hit ball to CF.
  3. That didn't hit him~ Just because he has a shirt 10 sizes too big doesn't let him get hit by crap like that.
  4. Someone on a fantasy site I visit posted this quote from the Giants. Not sure where it came from but seems they are trying to get it in no matter what.
  5. People just underrate Parra in general. He had a 3.07 ERA in the minors. His xERA the past 2 years has been 4.30 and 3.84. His xFIP has been 4.61 and 4.03. He never had a high BB/9 in the minors and it came back down in the 2nd half which was mostly derailed by an extremely high BABIP. He also struck out 1 per inning in the 2nd half. His GB% last year was 51.6%! This is a skillset that could easily translate into ace levels sometime in the next couple years. Medium BB/9, high K/9 and high GB%.
  6. It is because april dates don't make as much money as mid season dates so you would have all of the good weather/dome teams losing money if they always scheduled them at home the first weeks.
  7. Weather isn't looking good for today, I'm thinking a rainout with a doubleheader tomorrow. So make sure you check the weather before you take off early from work~.
  8. I'd be surprised if they don't combine for 25 wins if they both pitch a full season.
  9. Fielder did not have a single month with a 1.000 OPS last year, and his OPS in 2007 was 1.013 for the season, so you haven't debunked anything. If you expected a 1.000 OPS your expectations were out of line. Fielder from May 1st on hit .280 with a .373 OBP and an .891 OPS with 1 HR per 16.53 AB. That is pretty darn close to what he was projected by most sites. If you expected 50 HRs again you were going to be disappointed most likely no matter what he ate or what he weighed. If his weight was the problem he would have had issues all year, not just early in the season.
  10. I expect Parra to be an under 4 ERA pitcher eventually, hard to know if that will be this year or next year though.
  11. Of course the fact he had a bad start and then played at expectations the rest of the year even with the 'extra weight' has already completely debunked this comment. Fielder had a bad start because he was trying to pull everything for a HR early in the season, not because of his weight or because he stopped eating meat.
  12. 12-10, the start is ugly but then we beat up on the Pirates and Astros to pull back over .500.
  13. 86 wins. Parra is the best pitcher on the team this year. Hoffman is fine as the closer Fielder has a better year than Braun. Hardy improves slightly just like last year and plays himself out of our pay range. Weeks and Hall both are closer to last year than their best years.
  14. Don't see how the truth is a free pass? Suppan has pretty much been exactly what I expected and I always thought we gave him $2-3M more a year than we should have. A lot of bad pitchers got big contracts those seasons and none of them have really been worth it. I'm sure that the injuries had a lot to do with his season last year but I agree that it wasn't the greatest signing since his peripherals never supported his ERAs. He has a career LOB of 80% with pretty mediocre stuff, not sure he can be expected to keep that up year in and year out.
  15. Bringing Hardy up was dumb regardless, the team wasn't playing for anything that year and he could have used some time to get things straightened out in the minors given his situation. They should have brought him up around the all star break instead, but it isn't some huge deal.
  16. I believe Maryvale is one of the larger parks so that is part of it. I think our pitching is being underrated personally. Everyone focuses on losing Sheets/Sabathia but forget that Parra probably will improve this year, Bush looks to have carried over the 2nd half success from last year, Suppan looks healthy, Stetter looks to be a good young RP etc. This staff is not some black hole on the team, it is probably roughly average. I also really like what I've seen from DiFelice which gives us some nice depth along with McClung
  17. If that is true Gallardo needs to adjust to the strike zone. It stinks but that is part of growing as a major league pitcher, adjusting to bad umpires.
  18. He is Gwynn with a little bit more power. If you expect a .650 OPS out of Gwynn I'd expect a .700 out of Duffy. Minor upgrade but an upgrade, though older by 2 years as well so not much 'upside'.
  19. I like the under on the Blue Jays. That rotation is pretty decimated, the bullpen is already a bit banged up and the lineup just isn't very good. McGowan had a setback and Marcum is probably out for the season and there are pretty good odds Halladay gets traded mid season. In that division I'm not seeing 77 wins.
  20. It isn't really about the odds, it is about the pitchers potential and Gallardo has ace like potential. It won't surprise me if any pitcher with ace like potential wins the cy young.
  21. TGJ is not a major league starter, pure and simple. He is decent but not great defensively, he is below replacement level in power and OBP and he is relatlively fast but not amazingly so. He displays above average skills in a few areas and below replacement level in others and the final mix is a Brady Clark style 4th OF most likely. Maybe he'll luck into a full season or two with a crappy team but that is the upside at this point.
  22. I don't think it is that simple, he probably asked if he could have a full time role vs righties and we didn't want to give him one so he moved to another team. His defense is slightly below average at 3B and the chance to play full time against RHP at 1B is a perfect match for him even if that park is going to hurt him a bit. Melvin would have liked him back I'm sure, he just didn't have the situation that Branyan wanted to play under.
  23. Most players would theoretically put up better stats in a platoon. Cameron has less of a platoon split than most of our players so he isn't the player I'd be looking to platoon personally.
  24. It says Bronson Arroyo's odds are higher than Gallardo's, forgive me if I'm not really putting much faith in those odds. There is also a difference between me expecting it and me being surprised by it. It won't surprise me if Gallardo stays healthy and pitches to his potential and gets a little luck to end up with a Cy Young since he actually has ace quality stuff. Someone like Arroyo winning it most certainly would surprise me. I'm sure Lincecum had bad odds last year but it didn't surprise me that he had a CY type year either. Cliff Lee was a surprise.
