  1. I disagree with this comment actually~. I think we match up with Cain ok since he gives up so many flyballs. I think this game could easily go either way. I don't like our matchups at all for the Cubs series so I dub tonight our first 'must win' game of the year!
  2. The change shouldn't have been made in the first place so I hope they decide to swap it back sooner rather than later.
  3. If Macha took Suppan out of the rotation for going 7 IP, 3 ER in each of his next 4 starts(assuming he is hitting his spot and velocity doesn't drop etc) I think I'd fire him on the spot if I were running the team. I still think people are missing the boat here, Suppan didn't pitch poorly in the first game so this isn't even starting to be an issue yet. On top of that pitchers are all over the place the first month of a season, just look at all of the 'aces' that got smashed around so far this week. His leash hasn't even started yet.
  4. PH with the lefty vs a lefty is strange isn't it? This another example of a manager not being willling to PH with their C?
  5. Nice to see Coffey get out a lefty. If he can be even adequate against lefties he should be a nice RP since he just kills righties.
  6. I do not see how Hart isn't a huge concern at this point. His approach at the plate is just terrible. I know plenty of players have bad approaches and still manage to be valuable, maybe he is another Soriano or Vlad but there is still a good chance he is a platoon player as soon as mid 2009.
  7. Nope, I'm not going to judge any of our pitchers until late april, especially bullpen guys. They are all too pumped up for their first couple games.
  8. Stetter is one of the few guys in the bullpen I have faith in, I hope he makes me proud!
  9. his posture on the bench suggests he is done, but that is nowhere near a sure thing.
  10. I agree. Hardy needs to see fastballs and Hart is hopeless at the plate no matter what they throw, he has to just hope he guesses right to have any success. Hart is just terrible as a #2 hitter because his approach at the plate is one of the worst in baseball.
  11. I'm not sure that Kendall is a better hitter than Gallardo so I like this move~.
  12. If we lose this one we have to point at fielding as the issue so far. That is 3 errors now (Hall's play at 3B was an error even if it wasn't called). We just can't keep giving them extra outs.
  13. Lack of health I think he is saying. His injury in 07 was a trauma injury and he was healthy for 08 so I'm not overly worried about it. I expect 12-13 wins out of each of them assuming they go a full season. Each of them are capable of more than that as well so it wouldn't completely surprise me if they combine for 30 wins... again assuming both are healthy and pitch all year. I'm a bit worried that Gallardo will hit a wall after 150 innings or so.
  14. He was taken out after something like 67 pitches, I'm sure he could have pitched longer but we have 2 long men and no reason to be worried about using them early so they made a change. My point is Macha is not going to look at ERA when evaluating things, he is going to watch the game and see how the pitchers are actually throwing. Suppan mostly hit his spots yesterday even with a small strike zone, I'm sure Macha isn't really concerned about Suppan after yesterday.
  15. I answered it just fine~ You can't judge a pitcher by a single game of results. Suppan's leash hasn't 'started' yet because he pitched fine yesterday. If he keeps throwing the ball like yesterday then he'll be in the rotation all year. If he starts walking a lot of guys or his location is just bad in general then they can start worrying about it and he probably gets like 9 or 10 starts from that point.
  16. I'm pretty sure it hit the jersey, but that same angle showed that the ball probably could have been a good 4 more inches inside and not actually hit Pablo. At some point the fact he has a jersey that is twice the size it should be has to come into play and the spirit of the rule has to be enforced not the exact wording. At least that is my opinion. In the big picture I wouldn't worry about a single start if I were Macha and Suppan threw the ball well in general so this game wouldn't make me even start to think about making a change. He has to start walking guys or just having terrible location for me to start considering it. If Suppan pitches like he did today every single game he'll be his normal 4.75ish ERA type self over the season.
  17. Robin19 pretty much nailed it, Suppan did not pitch anywhere near as bad as the numbers suggest today. Couple weak hits early with a really questionable HBP and then a hard hit triple. Later in the game he had an easy K where the ump didn't call the strike followed by a HR and then the whole lincecum chopper to set up more runs. The thing with Suppan is that he lets a lot of ball be put in play and when he makes a mistake it usually goes over the wall so he is really at the whim of BABIP more than most starters, a couple lucky hits leads to a terrible game for him and that is what seems to have happened today. Overall he threw the ball pretty well. That isn't an excuse for him ind you, the fact that he gives up so many hard hit balls and doesn't strike out many means it is hard for him to be more than adequate most games. It also means every time a few extra balls fall in for hits he has a bad game even if you can't really blame him for those little bloops etc. Suppan had an xFIP of 4.91 last year which is right in line with his previous years. McClung had an 4.84. These are basically the same guys. DiFelice is the more likely upgrade in the rotation imo.
  18. He wasn't going to start for a while so they said he would pitch in relief today to keep his arm fresh. Only he has never had any success throwing in relief in the majors so it is no surprise he's not having any success now. Today was treated as a throw away game by starting Suppan and using Bush in relief and even though we got to Lincecum early we are gonna lose it.
  19. I really hate that they are sticking Bush in here. This has never worked out well for him.
  20. The FSN score keeper has just been terrible, it will say 1-2 count instead of 3-2 etc. Really annoying.
  21. Suppan wasn't locating well the last 2 innings so I think it was the right move to take him out. He looked good the first couple innings even if the results weren't good.
  22. Now that was a real HBP http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif.
  23. Hart looks as terrible at the plate as ever. I don't have much faith in him being more like 2007 than like 2008.
