  1. The bullpen is the only real question mark at this point. There are other spots I'd like to see improved but the bullpen is the only real disaster waiting to happen spot.
  2. Zambrano is hiding an injury so I'll give the advantage to Sheets, especially at home. Zambrano is basically shot putting the ball to the plate and I'd be shocked if another DL stint isn't coming soon.
  3. Yep I agree. That is why I'm glad he is playing Weeks. As for the righty lineup, it makes some sense. Pineiro has a .780 OPS against vs RHB in his career and a .734 against vs LHB.
  4. Nate McLouth can look like Albert Pujols for 2 months too, doesn't mean I'd start him over Pujols. Nobody thinks they can predict baseball stats 100% because to be honest baseball is a very random sport in general. The stats are there to try to show where the true talent level is and to look past the randomness.
  5. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=7832 Thought it was an interesting read for anyone who is interested. Basically says that the Brewers have the advantage over the Cardinals the rest of the way so the Cards really need to win these H2H games.
  6. http://www.baseball-reference.com/pi/bsplit.cgi?lg=ML&team=TOT&year=2008 This year PH have hit .223 with a .646 OPS so far this season. All batters combined have hit .261 with a .742 OPS. That is an imperfect study as the PH data is included in the overall and because PH obviously face harder pitching overall most likely, not to mention PH are generally worse hitters since they are bench guys.
  7. The 3-8 they have to go to make my 14-13 accurate is going to be very painful to watch if it comes true!
  8. I don't know who the right guy is and Durham is an upgrade over Dillon so I exaggerated my point a bit. I'm just saying that Durham really isn't the fit for our need. He isn't a utility type player that can fill in all over, he pretty much is just a guy to platoon with Weeks and I dont' see it as much of an upgrade.
  9. I really don't want the Cardinals in the playoffs. That is not good team and if they can make the playoffs it means Baseball has hit the same level of 'parity' as football IE any crappy team with a few lucky breaks can make the playoffs because they give the weaker teams all the advantages. That just isn't good for sports.
  10. Durham was more or less completely the wrong guy to get. We needed someone who mashes righties and was weak vs lefties and that is not who he is. He is one of the few 2B in baseball that is clearly worse than Weeks defensively as well. I'd rather just play Weeks full time than trade for Durham.
  11. If you are using fewer than 1000 AB to judge a hitter you are not getting very useful results. Sorry but trying to judge a hitter by 3 months of play is just futile. If you want to judge Weeks you use his career stats and not just this season.
  12. The Brewers just beat two top end righties on the way to a road sweep of a west coast team. Doesn't get more silver lining than that.
  13. They should be nervous right now. It is very easy for a team to go on a hot streak or a cold streak and if they tank a lot of H2H games they could fall out. That doesn't mean they need to be despondent or anything. They are in the drivers seat and most likely will win the division but with only a 3 game cushion they should be nervous today.
  14. I just saw this on my fantasy baseball notes... "Henry Schulman, of the San Francisco Chronicle, reports San Francisco Giants 1B Rich Aurilia could be involved in a trade to the Milwaukee Brewers"
  15. There is no real reason to think Weeks is going to get worse with experience since very few players do. He has a career line of .242/.349/.401/.750 so that is pretty much my expectations from here on out. That or slightly better since his general trend was positive until this year. His defense has been a good bit better this year than last imo. I really don't think Counsell would match that with fulltime play.
  16. Riske's K/9 over the past years have been 5.94, 5.73, 6.72 and this year it is 5.59. He is 1 K off of his 05/06 pace and 4 Ks off of his 07 pace. Riske's BB/9 over the past years have been 1.86, 3.48, 3.49 and this year it is 4.34. He is 3 BB over his 06/07 pace. His FIP right now is actually the exact same as in 2006. He really isn't that far off of expectations. The biggest difference is last year he stranded 90% of the baserunners who he faced and this year it is a more normal 73.5%.
  17. Mets, Dodgers, Cubs WC : Brewers Same standings I said going into the season.
  18. I absolutely dread facing a teams backup C with RISP, every time that is a game winning hit. Wonder if that one is true~
  19. His numbers were partially smoke and mirrors last year which is why most projection services had him closer to a 4 ERA. Think a slightly better version of Turnbow. When you struggle to throw strikes it catches up with you eventually.
  20. Under Push Under Push Push I think Weeks hits around .250-.260 in the second half and that leads to a roughly .370 OBP but he wont' make up for the low stats from the first half. His sabermetric numbers are way off this year so to me at least part of the AVG is bad luck but he still isn't going to be a high average hitter. Just too many Ks and too many popups.
  21. Yeah that confused me too. I thought to myself that it was the perfect chance to skim 1 IP off of Manny's load by taking him out after 6 tonight but not only do they leave him in they let him pitch to at least 1 batter too many and end up losing the W for him as well.
  22. I'll give him a D. He still rests people at the silliest of times like giving Weeks time off against lefties instead of righties etc. He still is pretty inept at managing a bullpen. Last year I would have given him an F.
  23. At this point it is hard to call Pie and Cedeno top prospects as they have done nothing but fail at the major league level. That isn't to say they can't regain the tag but I think the best players in that system are now gone. Personally I'd rather start Gallagher this year than Gaudin so assuming those two are equal we get Harden for Murton/Patterson/Donaldson. This is obviously a big bonus for the Cubs for this year and next year assuming Harden can stay healthy but long term I think it does hurt their team quite a bit. The Cubs have a smaller window than the Brewers right now as they are reliant almost completely on free agency to stay strong in 2010 and beyond imo. The larger payroll obviously makes this less of a big deal but their payroll isn't leaps and bounds ahead of ours anymore. It is larger but they can't afford to just throw away money like in the past.
  24. I wouldn't trade my jock strap for Greg Maddux at this point, he is useless outside of that park.
  25. nice trade for the Cubs if Harden can stay healthy until the playoffs. I don't think they were trading to make the playoffs, just to win in the playoffs.
