  1. Who knows, maybe he'll go all Dempster on the league and actually pitch better as a starter than a RP.
  2. The 2005 team played way over it's head so not sure the comparison is fair. As expected almost everyone on the team regressed in 2006 and you saw the results that didn't come as a surprise to me one bit.
  3. Add the DH to the NL, then nobody has an unfair advantage and we don't have to watch Ben Sheets hit. Pitchers don't have the time to properly train to be hitters and there is no reason to send them out there other than people clinging to the notion "this is how it is supposed to be".
  4. I'll be ok with 5 wins, I'll be upset with 3 wins, I'll be happy with 6.
  5. I'm not a huge fan though I enjoy watching the Brewers player in AL parks since I don't have to watch pitchers pretend they can hit. Can't wait until the NL gets the DH.
  6. Every pitch Sheets threw on those at bats was poorly located. I can forgive leaving a SP in when they are blooping in hits or hitting good pitches but it is bad managing to let any starter give up 6 ER that late in the game on poorly located pitches. I don't care who the pitcher is.
  7. It isn't like Sheets was making good pitches and they were just hitting them. It was bad pitch after bad pitch. I just hate watching Yost run a pitching staff, that was just dumb leaving him out there that long.
  8. They do remind me of the Bucks though. Both teams seem like they should be better than they are but just find that little something they can do to lose the game.
  9. I've seen him bunt at a ball a few times this year, he generally misses. I think he just stinks at bunting.
  10. He is wearing women's underwear.
  11. Yeah it is too bad about Capuano. He was decent in 2004 before those two games he pitched against the Cubs while hurt. In 2005 he was ok but very lucky, he got 18 wins but his peripherals were not all that strong. in 2006 he looked like he was turning the corner by cutting down the walks and then the disaster that was 2007 and now this. I hope things turn out ok for him.
  12. I was just talking to a friend today about Gagne and we agreed that we would have left him in middle relief until he threw 2 clean innings. To me that is the sign that he is ready to get back to the closer role. They don't even have to be back to back clean innings, just 2 total. We can't have a closer that is putting 1-2 runners on base every single outing, it is a recipe for disaster.
  13. Zambrano has certainly overproduced, his ERA should be in the mid 3s and not 2.03. I'd be worried about him as well though, he has a history of spiking his BBs and if he is striking out so few and his control goes for a few games he will be pretty bad.
  14. If the Cubs dont' win the division they choked pretty much. As soon as Gallardo went down they had the upper hand over everyone. Doesn't mean another team can't get hot and take the division but it is the Cubs to lose barring an injury.
  15. We will have the lead after the 1st, mark my words!
  16. I wouldn't do anything unless they want to replace Bush if he has a bad start. I don't think you boost CV or Parra's confidence by sending them down, you hurt their confidence. I'd give each of them at least a couple more starts before worrying too much about it. Out of the two I'm much more worried about Villanueva because his peripherals have been much worse. As for position players, the offense is starting to show some signs of life, I think you have to play wait and see. Hall is the only player that really has me worried at this point and I just don't think Gamel is a real option right now. Maybe give Dillon a start or two against the tougher righties we face here to give Hall mental days off.
  17. Inman's ERA is flukey because of all the unearned runs though which are a subjective thing at best. The strike outs are nice and 3.7 BB/9 is servicable but remember those stats tend to deflate at each level. An example would be Capuano who had 167 K in 159 IP as a 22 year old in AA. I don't know much about Garrison so he was always the wild card for me. Thatcher seems to just be a bullpen arm. The big reason the trade "failed" is because we still missed the playoffs. If we had eeked into the playoffs most people wouldn't be worried about it. Though to be honest I think Linebrink was the wrong RP to target.
  18. I don't think the deal was that bad because we didn't give up all that much overall. I don't think the Padres will be regretting it though. Inman will be a major leaguer and Linebrink was not a big part of their bullpen last year as the 4th best RH in it.
  19. And I've never had a problem with any other poster on this board either. The condescending attitude you take in this post pretty much sums up the problem in my mind, not sure how you call that 'friendly' and not sure where you get that I'm angry in my posts. Your jokes generally aren't meant to be funny, they are meant to be insulting. When I point to career ERA of 4 year pitcher and mention other things as well and you come back and crack a joke about Hideo Nomo's career ERA it isn't trying to be funny. It is belittling the argument and ignoring part of it. That isnt' healthy. Dave Bush being a good pitcher or not isn't the topic btw, the best way to evaluate pitching in general is. I could really care less whether Bush stays in the rotation or not because he is just a #4 type pitcher without a ton of upside.
  20. If someone is suggesting a player needs a mental day off because they have been playing poorly lately you pretty much only have the small sample to go by. I was merely saying that Hardy has been hitting much better than Hall has lately and in fact has been since the first week of the season.
  21. It all really depends on who wanted Gagne on the team. For all we know Mark is the one who pushed for Gagne in the first place. Maybe Mark thought it was a bad idea and Melvin convinced him otherwise, if that is the case than yeah this hurts Melvin's security a lot. It all depends on what happened being the scenes which we just don't know.
  22. The Angels I agree with and they are one of the few teams who can survive it. They just have so much depth everywhere on that team. Don't get me wrong, Saunders and Santana are both showing they aren't as good as they pitched in April now and Mosely didn't really work out so it is hurting them as well. The Cardinals had 0 pitchers go down. Mulder and Carpenter were already out before spring training and the Cardinals already worked on replacements. If we went into the spring training without Capuano and Gallardo I would feel very different about things. But we went in assuming they would be healthy.
  23. Branyan has never had any luck staying healthy for a full year, he is now 32 years old and he has marginal skills and old player skills so I'd expect him to be in full decline right now. While calling him up and giving him some ABs wouldn't bother me that much I don't think he is a solution to anything, just a short term bandaid.
  24. He could be used to eat up innings in blowouts as well I guess. It is a silly question http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif But yeah I think he'd still be pretty darn valuable. When a RP gives up 1 run it doesn't generally bother me that much, when they give up 3 runs it is a disaster.
  25. I don't really agree with this at all. Gagne needs to be effective in some role because the team needs all the arms it can get. If he is really going to be our best RP he would be better served just pitching whatever inning is most important than being a closer. I personally don't think he is the best RP on the team so I was fine with him as the closer. I don't think the team can afford to just cut bait on him though, the bullpen just isn't deep enough.
