  1. These players don't exist. I mean really either a pitcher is healthy and still good and teams sign them themselves or they have an injury history or are on a downward trend and teams spend too much to get them. If it were so easy as to just give some sure thing 200+ IP stud $15M I'd say things would be much easier. We will not get a pitcher as good as Sheets as a FA because pitchers who are that good almost never go to FA and when they do they ask for contracts that are way too risky.
  2. I don't think anyone on the club said anything like this, the broadcasters said it before talking to anyone.
  3. I don't like a 4 year deal for any pitcher really because injuries are just too common. Has nothing specifically to do with Sheets. If I'm going to make someone the exception it would probably be someone with a 100% pure track record though, which is like 5% of the FA pitchers in baseball.
  4. Around 35-40% of the pitchers on the staff will spend some time on the DL this year and over 50% will leave a game with something minor, hard for me to be bothered by this kind of thing. This is completely normal for all pitchers. Staying healthy is a skill that very few pitchers in baseball have year in and year out.
  5. 1. No, not even with a veteran team. 2. Partially. It is the organizations fault but he most certainly did misuse them. 3. No, not directly at least. A different manager might have won that series though. 4. No. I don't think Yost is a very good manager but I think Baker is bottom 15%.
  6. I'd trade Turbow for a bag of balls.
  7. For what it is worth with Parra, I looked up Dana Demuth and he had the 3rd smallest strike zone in baseball last year. More specifically his zone is small on the left side and on low pitches. That is why Parra was getting pinched all day and Lohse had a pretty normal strike zone as Lohse works the right side and Parra the left. The Brewers also swung at more junk than the Cardinals of course. http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/a-zone-of-their-own/
  8. Gopher is right here, we are trying to compare what the team will do this year to what it did last year. Everything before last year has absolutely no value in the discussion other than trying to predict what the current players will do this year. The only stats that matter are what Jenkins/Estrada did last year.
  9. Sheets actually said in an interview that he already has an off speed pitch so why does he need to throw a change up if he his commanding his other pitches. The biggest thing about a change up to me is that it reduces injuries. Fastball and change up are pretty easy on the arm compared to curve/slider. Having that third pitch is always a good thing though, I think every pitcher should be taught FB/CU.
  10. Who knows, the Rockies rotation is terrible and it got on a roll and took them to the playoffs last year. There just is no way to know with pitchers. The rotation doesn't have to be one of the best in the league because the offense is one of the best in the league, it just has to be good enough. Sheets is a solid #1 and I don't really expect an injury this year unless it is something little like last year which can happen to any pitcher. Gallardo is a solid #3 with #2 potential in my opinion. Bush, Villanueva, Suppan are all #4 types with Villanueva having a little more upside. Parra is harder to read, I think he has #2 potential but it won't surprise me to see #4 type numbers, yesterday's game I'm giving him a mulligan on because the strike zone was just silly. Parra was hitting his spots perfectly in the first 2 innings and getting everything called a ball. I think it has enough talent to be good enough.
  11. Joe Girardi is on my list of managers clearly worse than Yost. I think Yost is a below average manager but he isn't painfully bad like a Dusty Baker. He does ok with playing young guys in key roles, he just has some questionable decisions when it comes to late game bullpen choices and pinch hitting choices. I like that he doesnt' call that many bunts and that he doesn't let his players play every single game, everyone needs a day off once every 6 weeks or so.
  12. Steve Stone is a moron. He spouts out nonsense all the time. I still think it is Cubs vs Brewers with a Reds dark horse. I am not buying the Cardinals at all.
  13. Gameday shows his fastball at 93-95 so I really think the FSN gun was probably way off.
  14. Both the 1987 HR and this one put a smile on my face all day long so I'd have to stick them in a tie.
  15. 13 pitchers when your team just had back to back short starts by starters just doesn't bother me at all. I doubt this is a long term situation.
  16. I'd imagine Stetter is up for the weekend because the Reds stink vs lefties and because we just had back to back starters not make it deep into games so we could use a fresh arm. Once we activate Gallardo he'll probably go back down or they'll dump Turnbow or something like that. I'd also imagine it means Kapler is feeling better so we don't really need Gwynn.
  17. Those were some really nice pitches to Dillon so I cannot blame him. Guy comes in fresh from the bench and has perfect pitches thrown to him, hard to deal with.
  18. Well I'll take it anyway I can get it.
  19. Well I'd certainly wait for more than one week, remember a week ago we were leading the league in runs per game.
  20. I really wouldn't read all that much into the 4 BB with the strike zone he is getting. He does need to adjust to it better but with a different ump Parra would be throwing a great game.
  21. More like 14 for strikes 11 for balls, this strike zone is just silly. Hopefully he can adjust to it.
  22. I can't look up that stat specifically but with a runner on 3rd and less than 2 outs we are hittnig .304 but with only a .658 OPS and with 15 RBI in 30 PA this year so I'd say we are do ok so far. We have 8 K in those 30 PA and 4 SF.
  23. The Cardinals W3 is 7.1-7.9 after the first 15 games. They most certainly are winning more than they should be so far this year. The Brewers is 6.5-7.5 which is expected since the team doesn't really have anyone hot right now. W/L record after so few games just isn't a good way to judge a team. There really isn't a good way to judge a team after such a small sample, gonna need to go a good 40-50 games into the season to really know anything about how good teams are.
  24. For whatever reason they just don't like Murton.
