  1. Gagne looked good tonight, yeah he gave up a HR that cost him the save but the location of his pitches was mostly good and the velocity was fine. I just don't see this as a big deal. From a fantasy standpoint I took this outing as a chance to buy low on him because he pitched a good game but had bad results and that is what you want.
  2. Brewers are not that strong of a lineup against right handed pitching. However the team home/road splits have been pretty favorable for Miller park lately so I think it is mostly on the road vs righties that we stink it up.
  3. The difference between a Cueto and a Duke is that Cueto put up elite peripherals in the minors and Duke simply did not. Most of these had half a good year then tanked guys were very easy to spot if you just looked at their minor league stats. Cueto is the real deal, I like him more than Volquez or Bailey. I still think we can get to him tonight though since we hit so well at home.
  4. I totally agree. Tampa Bay, a team with far less revenue than the Brewers, did essentially this several years ago with Carl Crawford and not only did they keep a premier player at a below market rate through most of his prime years, it also made him much more attractive as a trade target because more teams could afford to get in the bidding. Braun is no fluke. Talent like that doesn't come around that often. They also did it with Baldelli and that didn't work out as well... Neither did Blalock for the Rangers. I'm not against doing it at all but it most certainly is risky.
  5. Yeah I'm not a big fan of letting him finish because of the day off tomorrow. I'm not screaming mad about it either though. Nice to see Sheets with an ERA of 0.00 after 2 starts though.
  6. Sheets at 101 pitches, I would hope to see Turnbow out there for the 9th?
  7. D. Lee HR, Cubs up by 1 again. All coffee is nasty~
  8. Parra out dueling Santana will be great too! BPro series to watch this week lists the matchups as... Probable pitching matchups: Manny Parra vs. Johan Santana; Ben Sheets vs. Nelson Figueroa or Orlando Hernandez; Jeff Suppan vs. Oliver Perez
  9. Don't get me wrong I'm happy that they're off to a great start, but the last few years they've been off to great starts as well. Wins are wins but I try not to get too excited early on, 2004 taught me a lesson when they were above .500 going into the All-Star break and proceeded to have the worst second half in the league. To be fair we had a below average team in 2004 who fluked into a decent record in the first half. Last years collapse is the one that bothers me because the team had plenty of talent and gave the division away.
  10. I'd want something like ISO or OPS against as well as FB/GB before I answered. Then I'd probably get the answer wrong anyway because Bush is the rare pitcher who seems to have a natural skill for giving up hits with RISP. It has lasted long enough that I don't have a ton of faith he can fix it like I did in the past.
  11. Yeah I think the tractor pull comment was just because that type of event would destroy a grass field. It is the most extreme example they could use.
  12. He didn't run last year because of the ankle. He isn't a very good basestealer but he is fast enough to swipe a few. As long as he isn't getting caught too much I'm ok with it.
  13. Errors are probably the silliest official stat kept in baseball. They should just do away with them. They don't tell you who is or isn't a good fielder and they are way too subjective.
  14. gameday says those fastballs were 94 MPH. Change up was 85.
  15. Come on Hart, make this a 3 run game and give Gagne some breathing room.
  16. Reds win in the bottom of the 9th against the phillies on a Bako single. That team is good enough to contend in the division if Baker doesn't cost them too many games.
  17. Kapler yard? The audio must be messed up or something!
  18. Fukudome 2 run double, Cubs up by 2.
  19. I'm only listening to the game but has Rivera looked as bad as he has sounded today? Dropped foul tip 3rd strikes, passed balls etc.
  20. Wang's peripherals aren't really very bad if you use something like xERA that takes into account GB%. Bush has had a career long trend of pitching poorly with RISP and most projection systems want to regress it to the mean. Not sure it is something he can fix. They are about the same as each other though, Suppan was a product of a good defense in STL and not much else.
  21. I'm pretty sure it would be higher than 4.63 since a better RP(Cordero) came in and saved runs from scoring on Turnbow multiple times.
  22. Unless it is raining or snowing I think the roof should be open. It is there to make sure we always get the game in, not to make sure the crowd doesnt' have to sit through the slightly cold.
  23. I think sending Gagne out would be a bad choice, gotta be hard to be fully focused when you are the closer being sent out in a joke of a game.
  24. Astros take the lead 4-2. It is still early but it looks like we might just have a bullpen this year.
  25. Brian is getting pretty good, Davey is a lot more comfortable this year but still has some work to do. Bill is still a boob.
