  1. Bush is generally bad on the road though so it did surprise me he chose Bush. I'm still fine with it, I mean if Bush can't pitch on the road maybe he shouldn't be in the rotation. Ervin Santana had the same issue and he pitched a good game today @Min.
  2. We miss Cain and Lincecum in the giants series too. I like them odds.
  3. PriorParra Hampton I'm sure there are more and when you add in minor leagues probably a lot more. Pitching is fragile enough that even 1 injury a year is enough for me since I dont' think the pitching hitting adds anything to the game. They just don't have time to keep up with the skills that are needed to hit while pitching at the major league level.
  4. He got 1 RBI and Gwynn scored on an error.
  5. DH in both leagues. Pitchers are scarce enough without them getting hurt while batting as well. I know it adds more strategy blah blah, it really doesn't add that much, certainly not enough to justify watching guys who can't hit out there and having a handful of major injuries to pitchers each year. Make RP face at least 2 hitters. This mostly for selfish reasons, I hate watching late game where 3 RP come in to face 3 different hitters. It just bogs the game down and makes it not as much fun to watch.
  6. Riske probably has some sort of maximum pitches limit and he was approaching it.
  7. I think the two teams are even on paper. Their pitching/defense is slightly better, our offense is slightly better. I picked the Brewers to take 1st for the first time ever this year but only by 1 game so it was far from a secure pick.
  8. If he misused the bullpen it was by sending Suppan out with 96 pitches to start the inning. Later in the season that makes some sense but his first start of the year I'd have pulled him instead of waiting for him to get in trouble.
  9. I like the fact that we only used 3 pitchers that game. If we can have a couple games like that every week it will help the bullpen a lot.
  10. April, August and September of last year. I think it was June that he absolutely stunk last season but he was decent the rest of the way.
  11. His fastball was 87-91.
  12. I've always liked the Indians for some reason too. Rays would certainly be neat with all that young talent.
  13. Nobody has fawned all over him and most people are glad it is a 1 year deal so I'm not sure what you are talking about. I know it is 'cool' to diss everyone on the mitchell report but this just seems overboard.
  14. That is circular logic though, most days if Gwynn hits like he did yesterday he'll not get on base. The ball he hit the best was the one that he got out on. It is really hard to look at one game and find meaning in it. Having said that if you look at the one game and his spring training he does seem to be making contact more often and driving the ball a little more both of which are good things. His value in the long run is probably going to come down to how many walks he takes though. He needs to get that BB rate up to get his OBP up over .360 and then we have a player(even if only as a 4th OF) even if the gap power never shows up.
  15. Some pitchers just change speeds on their fastball. Maybe the sub 90 ones are the ones with so much movement on them.
  16. Fastballs - 93, 93, 94, 94, 93, 92, 93, 93, 92, 91, 92, 92, 91 Changeups - 84, 82, 83, 83, 85, 83 Curve - 69, 70, 69 The velocity wasn't too bad on the fastball. Last year his FB averaged 92.3 and changeup 83.5 and he was successful though not great. I don't think we'll see 95-96 since he hasn't thrown like that since at least 2004.
  17. Both closers will be fine unless they get hurt. Dunno, didn't notice anything.
  18. His velocity was decent and that is about all you can go by in the first few weeks of the season. I expect location to be an issue with guys who don't play in winter leagues.
  19. I think their mods are a bit more forgiving so they do end up with more posters who don't bring much to the site. The more hardcore posters on the site are generally pretty good though. I post over there a bit and most of the time it goes pretty well, occassionally I'll get attacked by some rabid Cub fan who assumes everything I say is an insult, but most of the posters are pretty cool about things.
  20. I think most of the anti Gwynn crowd dislike him because we do not believe he can get on base enough. That is the heart of the issue. If he were to play every day I think his OBP would be about .340 with no power and only slightly above average defense. I think he was mishandled last season, he should have never been in the majors. A full growth season at AAA would have shown us a lot about whether or not he is a future starter or just a 4th OF. Instead he got jerked all over the place and I still don't know if he'll ever be a productive full timer. He certainly looked better in spring training and on opening day than last year but he still hasnt' shown the gap power he needs to develop or the ability to take enough BBs to keep a good OBP. I don't know if he is going to show those things without fulltime play somewhere.
  21. Yeah I'm not generally worried about RP early, they don't get enough work in spring training and many of them start out slowly. Gameday says his fastball was in the mid 90's which is where we want it so the velocity seemed to be there. Just took Gagne some time to get the location down.
  22. Dodgers will win that division so isn't bad news for our wild card chances. The DBacks have no pitching after Webb/Haren and the Rockies won't repeat last year. I think those teams all beat up on each other and the WC comes out of the east or central.
  23. That game went just like they drew it up in practice.
  24. Hopefully Fielder can make this a 3 run lead for Turnbow(who I assume gets the called though I'd prefer Riske).
