  1. Trevor Story has a possible UCL tear, that could be really bad news for the Rockies.
  2. They did that here in Alabama and we got stuck with the Rocket City Trash Panda's. Stadium is thanks to city of Madison so didn't get the city right and the mascot is dumb.
  3. The Cubs being in 1st place most likely will have nothing at all to do with the MVP race assuming the Brewers make the playoffs. They do consider playoff vs non playoff, but not seeding. Braun beat Kemp out because of some big HR's down the stretch that got the Brewers in the playoffs for the first time in forever and his battle for the batting title that went all the way to the final day of the season. Part of it was also Kemp playing on the west coast so nobody seeing him, same reason Trout doesn't have more MVPs. That one was narrative driven, not team driven. The same way if Yelich beats Baez it is likely because of how hot he got late and the double cycle.
  4. I think our magic number is 8 at this point? Not bad with 11 games to go and 2 teams chasing us but both needing to catch us to knock us out.
  5. The Cubs are just charmed. It is why they have the lowest fielding percentage against in baseball by like 30 points. It is just silly.
  6. How can that be his upside if he already had a better season than that last year? His only season better than that was .277/.324/.407 and it came with a BABIP 17 points over his career norm and it largely came from one huge month. The other dozen or so months of his career showed a much weaker upside.
  7. Hard to criticize him for this when the most famous player on the franchise is Yount who could barely get a legible sentence out at any point in his career. That is a very wrong and totally BS Post Why? Yount is probably in the bottom 10% of intelligent sounding players since I started following baseball back in the late 70s. It doesn't mean he isn't intelligent it is just how he comes off in interviews. It surprises me that anyone would disagree with that. Yelich's interviews are way more advanced than Yount's were.
  8. .274/.310/.368/.678 So decent avg, not much in walks or power though. That line is probably Arcia's upside and has been since before he was called up. He has never looked like a major league quality bat if it didn't come with great defense.
  9. Hard to criticize him for this when the most famous player on the franchise is Yount who could barely get a legible sentence out at any point in his career.
  10. All of the discussions I've seen on places like mlb network include Yelich and Cain in any MVP discussion and have for months now. General consensus has still pointed at Baez but he hasn't been making a strong push like Yelich has. Cain likely has no chance at this point but Yelich is still in the running.
  11. Braun has been doing the every other month thing. He was pretty good in April and June and great in August. He was pretty terrible in May and July and has been bad here in September.
  12. Thames vs Davis (or Granderson) is exactly why you need to use the defensive metrics. The eye test just does not work for defense. You can have a fielder like Pillar who makes amazing plays all over the field but he tends to take bad routes, he is slow for a CF and he a pretty average defensive center fielder outside of his arm at this point in his career. A lot of those amazing plays are balls Cain makes look like an easy catch. His strong arm does keep him above average. The eye test is just completely wrong on why he is above average.
  13. It puts a lot more value on winning your division which should be a huge advantage. The Wild Card should be a harder path to winning a World Series and in the past it wasn't, now it is. This is one of the better changes they have made. Also teams play different schedules, being better by a game or two over 162 really means nothing at all. If there is a 20 game gap between teams I get your point but most of the time it is 2 or 3 games and that is nothing. If you want the highest chance to win in the playoffs win your division, every team has plenty of time to accomplish that.
  14. So kind of interesting comment by Pedro Martinez on mlb network. When he was playing for the expos he used to babysit Travis Shaw so he was cheering for him tonight. I find that very endearing.
  15. I have watched a ton of Cubs games this season and I could not be less impressed by them. It seems like every night the other team is making 2 or 3 errors and then losing the strike zone to let them back in games. Everyone seems to think they have under-performed but from watching the games I feel like they have at least 6 or 7 wins more than they deserve on the year.
  16. Wow, that was awesome. Not many people can raise their slugging percentage on a bunt~.
  17. Cubs take the lead on an error and a batting practice fastball right down the middle for a homer by Happ who will swing at anything.
  18. Probably because when they did this with Anderson the other day people complained that they didn't bring in Arcia for defensive purposes. It really doesn't matter what Counsell does, someone is going to think it is wrong.
  19. Brewers at a 98% chance to make the playoffs. It sure doesn't feel that easy though. I'll feel much better when we are down to single digit games.
  20. Chase at Wrigley doesn't sound like fun. 50/50 chance it is good. That is the nature of the ballpark. Just hope the wind is blowing in.
  21. The offense has been fine, they just have struggled to get the big hit other than the Schoop grand slam. If they keep producing the way they have the last few weeks and just don't get as much bad luck with RISP they will score plenty. That is just part of what makes MLB so streaky.
  22. Going into the season everyone would have said a playoff rotation of Miley, Chacin, Gio would be unstoppable.
  23. Tampa Bay has the same record as the NL West leading Colorado Rockies. They are 18.5 games back. I saw Tampa's record today and couldn't believe how well they were doing. That's the quietest 14 over .500 ever. I don't even know who is on that team. It is a product of the AL being the weakest it has ever been outside of the playoff teams. I think a typical .500 team would win 90 games in the AL this year.
  24. No I just look at baseball completely differently than you do. I look at his game and think he had a bad start and got lucky. It wasn't a cool moment, it was some random quirk of luck. Stats like hits, ERA, wins, AVG etc mean nothing at all to me, they are heavily flawed stats that really don't tell what happened. Just because I view the game through a more advanced lens does not mean I am sucking the fun out of things. I'm completely serious here, when I view a pitcher and how good or bad he is ERA isn't even part of the equation, even for a full season, I don't care about that at all. If I look at a single start the number of hits he gave up doesn't matter at all, that is just random luck.
  25. Medium contact is not hard contact and that batted ball profile isn't that far off from what Corey Kluber and Carlos Carrasco have done this season. It was a fun story for a former Brewer. It doesn't have to mean "anything" for it to still be a cool little story. Nobody is saying he's the next big star or anything. Not everything has to be critiqued down to the littlest detail. I said he gave up hard contact I didn't reference hard contact% in my first post, the two are not the same thing. I wasn't specifically referring to how one site happens to categorize something which is completely different than how many other sites do. Those are also guys who K 1 per 9, if you aren't striking anyone out you have to either induce a ton of soft contact or keep the ball on the ground. He had a sub 10% soft contact, Kluber is at 15% for the year and 18.7% for his career, Carrasco is at 14.8 and 17.1. Those are not close to each other at all. Other than the fact every single thing you said wasn't true it is a really good comparison though.
