  1. Oswalt - We have handed him 3 losses this year already so not too worried. Hudson - Has a 4.31 ERA since May 20th, most of his stats were built in the first month when he was really hot. Smoltz - worried about this one. Maddux - 4.20 ERA on the road this year. Young - 4.11 ERA on the road this year. We do have worse pitching matchups in general but its really not nearly as big a deal as it may seem.
  2. Gotta make plays like that, so frustrating.
  3. I'm sure his defense has caused us 3 losses. That is where I draw the line though. Tulo is leading in win shares. Braun has a 51 VORP, Tulo has a 30 VORP so that is a clear Bruan winner. If Tulo played for another team I could sort of see the point to this discussion but his offense is almost 100% a product of Coor's field. He is Ryan Theriot in a normal park and isn't anywere near the discussion for ROY.
  4. Now hopefully the Cardinals can beat up the Cubs a lot in their head to head games.
  5. Yeah, Brad Penny sucks. Stats pre all star break he's a super star, post all star break he's mostly just a guy in general. He's held upa bit better this season but his BB's are still way up and its pushing up his other stats.
  6. He figured that out long ago, defense is what players who can't hit do.
  7. I dunno but they said the healing time on it would be about a year and about a year later he's suddenly swinging better. Sounds like the wrist has at least something to do with it.
  8. The D-backs for sure. Another young team with a shaky rotation past the ace only they had a good defense. Hudson is out for the season and that is going to be a huge loss for them.
  9. People are down on Weeks because he has played poorly most of the season and had to be benched multiple times because of his wrist. Nothing wrong with that. While he had a few great games when he first got back his OPS is sitting at .614 for september so I'm still dubious about him really being 'back'.
  10. Cardinals lose! Brewers/Cubs 2 games up on Cardinals!
  11. Bush has always seemed to struggle on the road and lefties hit him better than righties (though not this year). The Reds struggle against lefties and kill righties. Its not the greatest matchup in the world but he's due!
  12. Bush has always seemed to struggle on the road and lefties hit him better than righties (though not this year). The Reds struggle against lefties and kill righties. Its not the greatest matchup in the world but he's due!
  13. Only 2 of the runs were earned and the defense was bad in general that game. Over his last 7 games he's sitting at a 3.70 ERA. He's pretty much thrown the ball like expected which is pretty darn average overall and our fielding has made it look worse than it is.
  14. All it takes is a mini winning streak by the padres and a .500 patch by the other 2 teams and those are meaningless games. Its not a given by any chance but its certianly plausible.
  15. He might be able to, its pretty close. That doesn't change how long the Brewers own him though, it only changes how soon we have to pay him more.
  16. Fielder is in the AL for his first big contract in my opinion, Hart will stick with Brewers. Braun could go either way.
  17. The manager probably gives a swing of about plus or minus 3 games overall. Going from a LaRussa to a Yost might see a swing of 5 or 6 games overall.
  18. These are probably upgrades given how poorly Rolen has played this year. I think the Brewers probably have the hardest overall schedule but they got the extra day off which helps too.
  19. I'm more than a little worried by the Cardinals now that Ankiel seems to have saved that offense. To be honest they worry me more than the Cubs who I think will find a way to blow it.
  20. A lot of guys had career years at the same time and they got hot at the right time and won a world series, the White Sox were never an amazing team.
  21. The only bunt situation that has bothered me recently is having Hardy bunt with 2 strikes. Even though it worked out I thought that was a horrible choice since it almost certainly lowered our chances to score a run since if he failed to bunt hits an out.
  22. 2nd and 3rd with 1 out gives you a 1.45 run expectancy. Bases loaded with 1 out gives 1.65. 1st and 2nd no outs is 1.58. Now that is overall run expectations, not just getting 1 run. All 3 scenarios are very close for overall runs expected and I can only assume the fewer outs the more likely to score 1 single run rather than multiples. The fewer outs you have the better off you are in general. Sac bunts were good moves back in the day but now that SLG is so high on an average player and now that pitchers dont' pitch to contact its generally a bad idea to bunt with anything but a pitcher.
  23. Same lineup two nights in a row, is that even legal?
  24. I have defended Yost all season long until this past month and I agree, a lot of the complaints are in the gray area for sure, especially things like taking Braun out for defensive replacements and bunting late in close games. Aquino pitching was not a gray area, it was just a plain terrible choice by Yost. Mench batting was not a gray area, it was a terrible choice by Yost. If I'm managing the other team and I get to pick one player to come in and hit against Dempster with the game on the line I pick Mench, he is the worst person to have up in that situation. If I'm managing the other team and I get to pick one person to face Pence with the game on the line I pick that LOOGY guy who i don't even know the name of, Stetter or whatever it is. The second choice is Aquino. These choices aren't just gray, they are terrible. No amount of small sample size stats is going to say otherwise.
  25. Yost has reasons for what he does, just sometimes they are really bad reasons. Sticking with mench against a righty because Jenkins had a bad week is just a terrible way to manage a ballclub. Mench is the worst hitter on the team against righties, there is no way he should ever face one with the game on the line, I dont' care what the other players stats are against that pitcher or in the last week. ----- Continued from: viewtopic.php?p=230514#p230514 Original Lead: viewtopic.php?t=8606
