  1. When you deal in small samples its easy to go back and point at being right every time one of your guys goes on a hot streak.
  2. keep in mind OBP is more valuable than SLG so Hall's OPS is a bit misleading in those comparisons.
  3. I wouldn't agree that they have 4% more talent, much less 40%.
  4. I'd be surprised if Hall is gone. Worse case scenario he ends up back in a super utility but almost full time role. If we get rid of Hall then we are really looking for a full time OF and a part time OF at the very least next year.
  5. International draft is a good way to go. Hopefully baseball never falls for the salary cap idea (I mean league wide not just on international players) because they hurt the league as much as they help it.
  6. Not even close in my opinion, unless we play like .300 ball the rest of the year. The playoffs have nothing to do with being a big collapse, plenty of teams have had leads as big as ours that late in the season and not made the playoffs.
  7. Yes and the reasons are because both organizations had highly touted rookie C's coming up so they didn't need Estrada (don't know what happened in PHI but he was never a starter anyway). His abilities behind the plate aren't nearly as bad as his haters seem to think they are. Vargas = Davis, Estrada > rest of the scrubs, there is no way we lost that deal.
  8. Linebrink was decent until about two weeks before we traded for him. Inman will be a #5 starter in the majors imo. I was ok with the deal though it wasn't a great one, the results in hindsight obviously haven't been very good so far. A lot will depend on the rest of the season and who we get when he walks next year.
  9. I'd love to seee an Abreu type guy on this team, anyone with a history of strong OBP skills would be a godsend.
  10. I think Kremblas has the best shot at being a good manager out of the people in the organization right now. No way would i hand him the team next year which is why I'd like to see Yost canned with Kremblas finishing out this season to get a closer look at him and see if he's the guy for the job or not.
  11. Capuano will either start or be in the bullpen next year unless they find a trade for him. There is no way they non tender a guy who had 2.5 "good" years and then a "bad" year. Vargas I hope to see in the bullpen though. Sheets Bush Suppan Gallardo Villaneuva Parra Capuano We will not need to pick up a starting pitcher next year. People are putting way too much stock into one seasons ERA. Capuano's stats are almost identical to 2004/2005, he's pitched much worse since the injury but there is no reason to assume he'll continue to next season. Bush has been as good as he was last year so why now would we give up on him?
  12. He has 6 BB's in the 8 1/3 IP so its not like he's really pitched well, ERA just isn't a useful stat over such a small sample.
  13. Cool, now we get the I told you so pessimist crowd showing up, they sure were loud during the 10-20 streak, then they completely went away during the next good streak and now they are back to say I told you so once more. Well congrats, the team is playing poorly and I'm sure you feel much better now that your pessimism was well founded. The year the team does finally put it together and make the playoffs I'm sure you'll be here saying you were behind them 100% all the way, thats generally how pessimists treat being wrong.
  14. Huh? Turnbow will be on the team so setup man or even closer(yuck) is filled. None of our SP's are walking and we'll have gallardo and parra in the starting mix. Estrada isn't going anywhere either so not sure about the new C. If getting a RP or two and a LF is rebuilding then yeah we are rebuilding. Cordero, Linebrink, Miller and Graffanino are the only 4 players we are losing for sure. I imagine we pass on Jenkins and Koskies options too. There is no rebuilding there.
  15. Even the Cubs fans are confused by Yosts bullpen usage and they put up a thread thanking Yost for the win... now thats sad.
  16. We'll get at least one player when Linebrink leaves too so you ahve to include him in it.
  17. I don't like overly negative people either, but at this point I agree with him. If Yost is manager next year I'll be shocked.
  18. Ned most likely will be fired this year. Sad that I have come to this as someone who has at least defended yost all year but this team is just done, it looks like they are just ready for the season to be over at this point and that reflects on the manager and the biggest silver lining I can find is that he will be done after this year almost for sure.
  19. Sadly he is correct, the casual fan is clueless about what really matters in baseball. That doesn't absolve him of any of the blame for this mess, everyone on the team is to blame but as the leader of the team Yost pretty much has to go down for this.
  20. I'd guess its Sheets if he's ready or Capuano/Parra if not.
  21. Sticking with my original prediction, Brewers win 82 and take 2nd place to the Cardinals.
  22. I still don't see how you include those first 28 games where we went 14-14 in your numbers. That makes no sense at all to me. In the past 28 games we have been terrible but the stretch right before those games wasn't bad at all.
  23. Here are the 1/5 splits for the other .500ish teams. Cubs 1/5 - 16-16 2/5 - 13-19 3/5 - 22-10 4/5 - 15-18 The Cubs have been a good bit more consistent than we have. They have only had one good fifth to their season but haven't had the lows that we have either. Cardinals 1/5 - 14-18 2/5 - 14-18 3/5 - 17-15 4/5 - 22-13 The cardinals pattern scares me much more than the Cubs. This looks like a team that got off to a bad start and has come on stronger and stronger which can also be supported by players from the minors and who they picked up in deals. Unless we get swept by the Cubs I'm still as worried about STL as I am by Chi. Braves 1/5 - 20-12 2/5 - 15-17 3/5 - 16-16 4/5 - 16-19 Braves are living on a good first 20% of the season even more than we are, they haven't had an over .500 fifth since the first one. However they don't have those huge valleys that we have. I don't know if its because of Yost or from being a young team or what but it just seems like the Brewers are incapable of playing consistent ball and its held true for a few years now. We have very strong peaks but very big valleys as well, much more than most teams seem to.
  24. This team has been very strange this year as shown by those 1/5th splits. 12 games over, 8 games under, 8 games over, 10 games under(12 if you count the two extra games). You don't get much more of a roller coaster than that one and I honesty have no clue at all what team is going to show up for the last 1/5. I'm with you, I have a pretty negative opinion of the rest of the year too. I just don't buy into this being a case of us collapsing in the 2nd half just yet. We had a miserable 30ish game stretch, our second one of those this season, but we've also had two very good stretches. Two positives and two negatives equals a .500 team with an unknown future ahead of them.
  25. The brewers winning % since Jun 24th is 0.393 in 56 games. Prior to Jun 24 the team was winning at a .581 % in 74 games. The worst record in the major leagues for 2007 belongs to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays at 0.389. For approximately 43% of the season.(56/130) the Brewers have played as bad as the worst team in baseball. Is 56 games or roughly 2 months simply a "bad streak"? You can break the numbers up to look worse or better than they really are. If you break the season into fifths we are 12 games over, 8 games under, 8 games over, 10 games under and just entering the last 1/5 of the season. From June 24th to July 27th we went 14-14 so I find it unreasonable to put that in your bad streak list. From July 28th to August 27th we have gone 8-19. What you are really talking about here is not two months of bad streak, its one miserable month which pretty closely resembles the miserable month we had back in May/June. The most useful sample of games you can get is the largest one, we are .500 and thats all that really matters. Trying to break the season down and judge the team by part of the season is just not very useful.
