  1. I'd think this might mess up his mental process when he does get one on. I do think we should have a short leash with him when he is not throwing strikes.
  2. Again we are 23-19 in our last 42 games and the only reason the past week looked ugly was 2 blown saves and a blown game by the rest of the bullpen. All this doom and gloom makes people feel better I'm sure but saying this team is like the Bucks is just being short sighted.
  3. Actually he's been pretty miserable since April. .193 AVG, .323 OBP, .277 SLG, .600 OPS. I dont' think anyone can look at those stats with a straight face and say that the wrist isn't causing part of the problem though.
  4. some fans will never be happy pretty much. What has been killing us lately has been the bullpen, Melvin got one of the better available RP's in a trade, how is that not trying to help the team? As for how terrible we have been since the 24-10 start, who cares, you are just picking an arbitrary date that is no more meaningful than any other date. Since June 12th we are 23-19, does that make you feel a little better? From June 12th until July 24th we were 22-14 wit one of the best records in baseball over that stretch. Its not like we have played horrible all year except that one streak. We have had two ugly stretches of ball and two good stretches and ended up at around the record most people expected at this point.
  5. They aren't going to trade Weeks, they knew his wrist was going to be an issue this season and they won't give up on him because of it. They also aren't that likely to find somenoe much better than Graffanino to fill his shoes anyway. I highly doubt we make a move, we don't have a hole that is really fillable via trade right now.
  6. I'd have to go with Sybil.
  7. Most Surprising - Braun and Turnbow. I had a lot of faith in Braun but what he has done is just ridiculous. I thought Turnbow was done so he has been a nice surprise this season. I'm also a bit surprised by just how good Shouse has been. Disappointing - Weeks is the obvious answer here but I'm going to add Estrada to the mix. I was pretty high on Estrada after the trade but I've never seen such a bad player from a fundamental standpoint. He's talented enough to at least still give us average hitting but his entire approach to the game is just terrible. Not surprising to me are Suppan and Vargas. Vargas showed improvement in the 2nd half last year and well a lot of his success is a mirage since W's are such a useless stat. Suppan is pitching almost exactly the same as the last 5 years with a weaker defense behind him.
  8. I think its more the fact that Biggo and Glavine haven't played at an elite level in a few years now. Biggio still playing is more sad than exciting, he's a below average player at this point. Glavine hasn't been a real ace for the past 5 years now. Same reason Thomas getting 500 HR's didn't have as much hoopla as ARod will get.
  9. I think most people see him as a been on a lot of good teams milestone guy and not really earned it guy. He was very good for most of 1991-1998 but the rest of his career has not been as an ace level player which I think hurts his prestige a bit.
  10. Bourne is out of the game now, some backup IF is playing RF.
  11. Victorino hurt himself running earlier. Bourne hurt himself trying to make a play in the OF but he stayed in the game for now.
  12. I guess there is a hole and then there is a HOLE. Estrada might not be the greatest C but he's almost for sure going to be our starting C next year and its not really a position where we will be upgrading. We'll get about average production out of him most likely, slightly above average hitting, below average defense. C is more of a want than a need for the team next season.
  13. Its not rationalizing though. Its like looking at the Cubs and saying they blew it with their poor start, if they had just played .500 the first month and a half they'd be 7 or 8 games up on the Brewers. Streaks happen, some happen at the start of the year, some in the middle, some at the end. Just because ours happened to start the year doesn't make it any more important than any other streak. I wasn't thinking we'd win 95 games when we were 24-10, I figured we'd have a cold streak to offset it at some point. That 24-10 should not have significantly changed your expectations in my opinion.
  14. So then are the Tigers not a good team? They lost a double header to the white sox, they blew a 7-0 lead one game doing it. They have lost 6 of their last 7 games. Its fine if you think the Brewers are done but the good teams don't do this or that cliche just doesn't fly. Baseball is a streaky game and even good teams play like crap for a week here and there.
  15. 68 pitches through 3 for Lilly, lets see that bullpen get worn out. Lilly has been pitching way over his head all year, he should be giving up a lot more BB's and more HR's so this is a good sign, maybe he'll lose it after this and regress to the low 4.00 ERA pitcher he should be.
  16. You heard it here first, the Cubs collapse starts tonight. They lose 3 of 4 to the phillies, 2 of 3 to the mets and then suffer a losing record on their 7 game road trip.
  17. C - Estrada 1B - Fielder 2B - Weeks/Graffy? SS - Hardy/Counsell 3B - Braun LF - ?? CF - Hall RF - Hart SP - Sheets SP - Gallardo SP - Bush SP - Capuano SP - Suppan SP - CV1 SP - CV2 RP - Turnbow RP - Spurling? RP - Parra? Looks like LF and RP are going to be the biggest holes to me.
  18. Bush is averaging 6.13 IP per game which isn't bad at all. Suppan is averaging 6.05 which isn't terrible either, though lately it has been going down.
  19. There is still over a .100 point gap in OPS between his home and away splits for his career. If he plays closer to his .850 career OPS outside that stadium I think the Braves will regret this. Even if he is closer to the .900 of this year thats quite a haul for a CI.
  20. Considering the woes can be directly traced to the ineffective bullpen I"d disagree. The offense has been scoring a lot lately, the starters have given us a lot of quality starts, the bullpen has blown a lot of games.
  21. I don't think defensive metrics are ever going to be really accurate, they don't seem to show a strong correlation year to year so I'm guessing you need a couple years worth of data to really nail down how good someone is.
  22. Teix hasn't been as much of a stud away from that park, I think the Braves might regret this one long term.
  23. yeah I was looking at his RZR and OOZ which are much stronger stats than range. He's pretty average in RZR (plays in his zone) and he's above average in OOZ (plays outside his zone).
  24. I think you misunderstood what I said. So far this season Hardy's range has been above average, it has not been a season long problem. Now it could be a short term problem, I haven't watched the last few games because I've been at work and I can't look at stats for just a few games and they wouldn't tell me much anyway. But over this entire season worth of games Hardy statistically has been an above average defensive SS. He's looked good in general when i've watched him play too.
